I want to make a 5V nicostick wall wart passthrough for my 510.

Let me preface this by saying I am mechanically and electronically challenged. Fortunately, my father knows what he is doing, and he will be making the passthrough for me, but I have to do the research for him. (And yes I considered just buying a passthrough, but my dad has all the parts lying around his house, so it is pretty much costing me one battery connector that he is converting to an RCA adapter)

Am I to understand that a 5V 3A AC adaptor will work? Many have mentioned using an AC adaptor from an old D-Link router and I know we have at least a couple of those around the house.

Can this adaptor be wired straight from the connector (of course with one side running through the switch)? Will it require any voltage regulation? If there is any specific test of the voltage that he will need to perform, what would that be?
A Joye 510 needs about 5V@2.3A for 5V. The 510 clones need less. Just wire the adapter straight to the connector and switch.

1000mAh won't be enough, a 510 tends to draw 2000mAh at 5V. If it's a good adapter it will survive. If it's cheaply made it could catch fire!

Let me try to interpret it:

Both setups, PT and box mod.

under load means while vaping them

Edit: WillyB, your post wasn't there when I wrote this :D

I find that with my homebuild no-resistor passthrough my Iphone wall adapter works friggin GREAT. Runnin a 510 atty and dripping makes such great vapor.

Unfortunately your info is is incomplete and not of much value. There are many iPhone adapters out there with various outputs as there are many '510's' out there of various ohms. The imitation 510's require less current than a real Joye 510 atty.

My 510 atomizers are Joytechs. I found an old D-link adapter JTA0302B with 5V 2.5A output. Would that work?

Doing a Google search, there also seems to be a 2.0A D-link model, but I would have to rummage through my dad's junk collection to see if we had one.
The 2.5A will power any readily available atty made at a full 5V.

Be prepared though as true 5V hits extremely hard. Go easy on your button (short drags) till you get a feel for it.

Here's a POWER (watts/heat) comparison.

Joye standard ecig = 4.4 watts

At a true 5V (using 2.3A or higher) = 11.4 watts, that's a lot more heat and stress on the atty.

Using a 2A supply (my preferred choice) = 4.4V at 8.8 watts
