Nicotine content per analog

Ok, so I've come to terms with the fact that buying pre-filled cartridges is not for me. It's time to buy some E-juice.... one small problem:there are simply too many choices when it comes to e-juice to make a simple decision.
VG vrs PV
flavor
size of the bottle
who to buy from
and level of nicotine.

Which lead me to calling RJ Reynolds ( the company who makes the brand of smokes i have smoked for over 15 years) to find out how much nicotine was in the average pack of Pall Mal Reds.

I was informed that the FDA had told them the current method for determining nicotine content in cigarettes is not accurate enough, to the degree that, they are no longer permitted to release that information. Say What? So much for taking nic level out of the equation..... I smoke a little over 1 pack a day, any suggestions from those with the same previous daily habit as to a good nic level? thanks so much

No one can give you a definite answer to any of those questions. We can only make suggestions because what will work for one person may not work for you.

Juice flavor is going to be completely up to you. I suggest getting a few 5ml bottles of different flavors that you think you might like. My favorite juice vendors are VaporBomb and Gourmet Vapor. I usually get a 50PG/50VG or 60PG/40VG mix. PG is going to give you more throat hit, VG is going to produce more vapor. Keep in mind that VG adds a bit of sweetness and can mute some flavors.

As far as nicotine level, I started at 18mg which is more or less in the middle. I still had some cravings for an analog, so I ordered some 24mg and that keeps the cravings at bay. I now vape both 18 and 24mg. Not everyone is like this and that's why no one can tell you how much nicotine will work for you.

Hopefully I can start contributing to ECF, so here goes... From what I've seen on different threads, 18mg strength should be a pretty good strength for 1 PAD. And if I remember correctly, the approximate nic strength ranged from 12mg = 0.5 - less than 1 PAD, 18mg = 1 - 1.5 PAD, and 24mg = 1.5 - 2 PAD.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

According to this link Pall Mall Red is 1.3 mg. of nicotene.

I like the prefilled WOW carts from V4L. You have to remember the nicotene content is in the entire cartridge so it really depends on how long a cart lasts you. One cart lasts me 2 full days and I use 24 mg, former pack a day smoker. The high nicotene content allowed me to take to vaping with no withdrawal whatsoever. So the formula to decide nicotene content has to include how long a cart lasts you. I am unsure of the pg/vg ratio of the WOW carts, but I think they are 100% pg. VG gives more vapor and PG gives more throat hit. A common ratio I have seen is 70% pg and 30% vg. I am unsure if you have vaped before - if not, I strongly suggest at leasting trying prefilled carts until you find a flavor you like. To date, all tobacco flavors have totally disgusted me and you want to find some favorites before buying the liquid. My fav. is cinnamon roll, then butterscotch, peppermint and caramel. I am now ready to buy the cinnamon roll liquid and try refilling. My understanding is a cart holds roughly 1 mg. of juice and can be refilled at least 5 or 6 times. Vapor 4 life is where I ordered and I received in 2 days and like the WOW carts. I hear Tasty Vapors do custom mixes from extra flavor to any percentage of vg/pg, etc, but haven't tried them.

thank you all so much. I have a blu which i like but the prefilled carts notsomuch so i want to try some juice in a cart and see if that helps. I like the strong flavor to the java carts so i'm leaning towards getting some coffee flavor chocolate flavor and some mint for starters. I'm not quite satisfied with the blu carts at max nic level, i find my self using it like a pacifier. I do better with the stronger flavors though.... this will change once my taste buds return I'm sure.
I've narrowed down most of the decisions - I'm going to buy each flavor in both formats and mix till i get my flavor to vapor ratio (FtVR if you will) right. I think I'm going to go with a notch higher in nic than the prefilled carts though. Thank you guys so much for your help and for the juice vendors.

I'm also going to order a joye 510 or ego haven't decided yet .... still have more threads to read on reviews :)

My mantra is " i can do this" lol

Coming from someone who began this a couple weeks ago, and also smoke Pall Mall Reds (100's though). I would smoke a half at a time usually, about every 30-45 minutes, because they burned so slow. My first order of juice was 24mg and so far that seems to be the sweet spot for me without even trying anything higher or lower. I currently smoke 1-3 a day still, but only at night after I've had a couple drinks. If it wasn't for that habit, I wouldn't get the craving at all I suspect. So take that for what it's worth.

As for flavor, get a bunch of 5ml bottles or even the 3ml samplers some places offer. I have only tried the juice from Freedomsmokeusa.com so far, but I ordered some from Gourmet Vapor and if it wasn't a holiday I would be enjoying that very soon.

As for PG/VG, well I just went 50/50 on my first order of juices and that seemed to be just fine for me, however on my last order from GV most of their juices recommend an 80PG/20VG so I just went ahead with their recommendation there. I might get a little less vapor, but the VG can tend to mute out flavors because it is sweet by itself. I just hope I still get a decent amount of vapor from it. I know, vapor is more of a visual thing, but I like it.

You should try standard e-liquids (which are a PG-VG mix) and all-VG, you might prefer one to the other. Also get some samplers with 36mg and 24mg strength. If they're too strong then you can cut it with Flavor Doublers or just plain old 'Glycerin, USP' from the pharmacy (that's what the VG in refills is).

It is a pointless exercise trying to compare the nicotine levels in tobacco cigs and e-cigs, because:

1. Whatever strength cigs people smoked does not necessarily line up with the nic strength of the refills they eventually settle on.

2. It is impossible to calculate any nicotine equivalency between cigarettes and e-cigs because there are far too many variables, including the fact that the highest blood nicotine level ever found in any test of an e-cigarette user (in this case an experienced vaper who chain-vaped 36mg prior to the blood test) was one-quarter that of the average level seen in a smoker. Many tests come out way lower than that. In other words you get less nic anyway but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

So: get some hi-strength liquid and cut it down till you feel it's enough for you. Too high and you get mild nic OD symptoms and/or cravings for a cig, so it's easy to measure. Every consumer of every similar product does it automatically - you know when you've had enough coffee or alcohol, it's not hard to judge.

There is no such thing as a workable cigarette-ecig nicotine equivalent method - but enough is enough and you'll know it when you see it. Start high and reduce it.

Even in the same ratio of PG vs VG, some flavors will have a lot more TH than others. I seem to feel most satisfied with a good amount of TH and vapor, slightly less satisfied is there is little vapor, a lot less satisfied if there is little TH (especially if it's a food-y flavor).

Like Malboros and Capris and probably others, Pall Mall non-menthol uses cocoa as one of its flavors. They also have brown sugar and some licorice. Some other brands use honey.
R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company | Brand Compounds

I'm finding Backwoods Brews Casablanca (tobacco w/ cocoa) fairly satisfying (though for me more cocoa than tobacco) and I'm going to try their Maxboro and another of their tobacco flavors. Their Peach is yummy but it was indeed like a pacifier or like eating for me - I was never satisfied. I'm using 16-18mg nicotine. And BTW the nicotine of an ejuice is the nicotine per ml of juice.

I was a Pall Mall Red 100 2 PAD (about 48mg) smoker. Started vaping the end of Feb. but cut down to 12-15 analogs a day + 36 mg e-juice (about 48mg a day). I took me until April 25th to cut out the analogs all together and just vape the 36 mg. Now I'm down to 0-18mg. Depending on the TH. I don't mind no vapor but I need my th. My stronger th I can vape at 0, but if no th I have to go up on the nic.
