Nicotine destroys flavor?

What does nicotine taste like to you? It's supposed to be tasteless, right?

A vendor sent me a 0mg sample of their 'Froot Loops'. Not something I ever would have ordered on my own, but surprisingly enough, I liked it. Very authentic. All those familiar artificial fruit flavors sparking childhood memories, I think.

Anyway...

So I ordered a bottle of 'Froot Loops' in my 'at that time' preferred nic ratio of 18mg. First vape...horrible! All the light little arti-fruit flavors that were so enjoyable in the 0mg sample had somehow morphed into a nasty, kids cough-syrup train wreck. Additionally, there was a new, chemically bitter taste that I now recognize as 'nicotine'.

I tossed it into the back of my closet and let it sit there for two weeks, shaking occasionally. After the two weeks, other than turning a lovely shade of antifreeze yellow, there was no change in aroma or flavor. If anything, the bitterness was more intense.

So back into the closet it went where it's been sitting forgotten for the last three months. Yesterday, I finished off my 30 ml / 12 mg bottle of the same vendor's 'Froot Loops' (which I have enjoyed greatly) and remembered the other bottle. Took it out... an un-lovely shade of dirty yellow now, and it's taken on a 'Testors model paint' smell... and gave it a try. Nastier (if that's possible), and this time it made me queasy. Down the drain with it.

Have also experienced this with another vendor's 'Blueberry'... 6mg = blueberry, 18 mg = blueberry-scented wax candle.

What's the taste of nic to you? Or, what's its reaction on flavorings in high concentration liquids? All I can pin down is 'bitter' and 'waxy'.

Depends on the nic vendor and flavoring type from what I've seen. Some nic is subtle some is very noticeable. Mostly I taste a pepper type of taste more in higher nic. I have had some juices I liked at 18mg and felt they were missing something in less than 12mg. So it does seem to effect it in my opinion and I typically don't go over 18mg mostly because I feel it's overpowering to most juice flavors.

I've heard that juice with less nicotine tastes better, but also has much less throat hit.

Nicotine, by itself, is faintly peppery, and *very* faintly "tobacco-ish". When I clean my syringe after adding some 100mg nicotine to a juice I'm making, when it mixes with the water, it does smell somewhat like the smell of a wet ashtray when you're washing it.

To me, the taste is very faint, but then I use 10mg juice for vaping. If you're using a high level of nicotine (like the 18mg you mentioned) you might want to stick with tobacco flavors, so the nicotine doesn't screw up the taste. There's a Pipe Sauce called Oak Barrel Cider, and I've tasted that at 18mg, and I suppose it's a bit tobacco-ish tasting, but mainly I tasted the apple cider flavor. Pipe Sauce's Long Bottom Leaf tastes somewhat like sweet pipe tobacco, but also very strongly of coffee, with maybe hints of chocolate and vanilla.

For me nicotine overrides flavors at 18mg. When I first started vaping i didn't notice it. The 18mg juices tasted so much better than cigarettes. But the further I get from a smoke the better I can taste that terrible spicy/peppery flavor. At this point almost a month without a cigarette 18mg juices are basically unvapable for me. Even when I try them in a tank it is overpowering. This is true even with my fresh DIY supplies, quality stuff from wizard labs and vapor tek. But when I am craving a smoke this same harsh peppery taste is what calms the craving. So I add a bit of nic, to a small amount of my diy, and cop a nic buzz. Then it is back to the 4-6mg sauces I prefer.
