I don't know the answer precisely to all your questions and I'm sure it varies for everyone anyways. I just know that when I smoked, I smoked 1 to 1 1/2 packs of ultra lights a day. When I first started vaping I vaped 16 mg nic the first day all day and at 9:00 p.m. I then had my last cigarette and did get dizzy and buzzed from it. So that leads me to believe the ultra light cigarette was more than 16 mg nic. As far as how long a 10 ml bottle lasts compared to smoking cigs, I guess you would just have to compare. For me it would last me 2-3 days so about 2-3 packs equals 10 ml. I make most of my eliquid because it's still not real cheap to Vape if you have to buy nothing but premade juices.

Depending on how it's smoked and brand etc... A cig averages out to 1mg of nicotine going into your blood stream. It varies a bit but again thats the average from what I've read. Vaping is a bit more difficult to figure out. Nicotine in smoke is absorbed in your lungs where as in vaping its the mucus membranes (mouth and sinus cavities) that does most of the absorbing. I do not remember where I read this so take it with a grain of salt but in vaping your body only absorbs 45-60% of the nic because of how vaped nic is absorbed. I think of it as 50% because it makes for easier math. If I vape 3 ml of 12mg liquid thats 36mg total cut in half brings me to 18mg which is right about what a pack of smokes would be in theory. I had been vaping 2ml of 16mg and before that a pack a day. My point in rambling about my experience is I did this math when I started lowering my nic and I had no cravings or ill effects so I'm reasonably confident. As far as how much nic you get on a pull thats going to vary based on the strength of liquid and delivery. That may have been a bit more detailed than you wanted but hope it helps.

There was a thread a while back, I can't find it now. But a chemist on the boards estimated a 40% efficiency rate in absorbing nic from e-cigs vs cigs. Also noted that people self-titrate to get the same total nic they used to get from cigs (noting also that you don't absorb all the nic from a cig either)

He proposed people use this formula and compare to how many mls they actually vaped, and found it was pretty accurate in most peoples' real world experience.

Google how many mg of nicotine are in the brand you used to smoke. Multiply by number of cigs per day. Multiply that figure by 2.5, for the 40% eff. Depending on level of mg/ml in your e-cig, this will determine how many mls per day a person vapes.

So, in my case, the cigarette I used to smoke had 1.2mg per cigarette, and I smoked 1.5 pack a day. I settled on 18mg/ml because when I went over 20, I would get nauseous and dizzy.

1.2 (mg/cig) * 30 (cigs/day) * 2.5 = 90
90 / 18 (mg/ml) = 5 (predicted mls per day vaped)

And 5mls is about how much I vape a day.

Many people did this calculation and said the end result of mls per day was spot on to what they actually vaped.

If you want to vape less ml, then up the mg/ml you are vaping until you are comfortable. But don't worry about how much you vape compared to how much you smoked. Your body is telling you how much you need without you even knowing it.

So far I've come to three variables that effect nicotine delivery. The first is the juice, how much is in solution for your juice. Obviously more milligrams will be more nicotine to your membranes. Second is equipment. If you're a dripper, expect to get less nicotine out of your juice, but tanks (and especially Kayfuns) are more efficient at delivering nicotine to you. Third is habit, are you a chain vaper, do you hit it once an hour, etc.

General observations, while cigarettes are exceptionally good at nicotine delivery, I actually get much more nicotine when vaping. It's cumulative, 20 minutes of chain vaping (5ml of 6mg juice=30mg of nicotine) is 15 analogs (I was using American Spirit Red rollies, shown to have 2mg per cigarette). Because the efficacy of my equipment is lower than an analog, I estimate %75 absorbed (totally optimistic), so the number drops to about 24mg, or 12 analogs in 20 minutes.

My math is quite probably wrong, but that's what it feels like. 40mg could be considered lethal, but since I'm Scottish, it just kind of tickles.

This is very interesting. According to one of the links above, it takes about 35 minutes of vaping to absorb the same amount of nicotine absorbed by 1 cigarette. This seems to make sense. I dropped from 3-8 ultra lights a day to less than 1 a day a couple months ago and noticed that, when i'm in a place that i can't vape, i get cravings faster than i used to. My fear was that i was increasing my need for nicotine by vaping more but it seems like i crave more because i'm not getting the same nicotine i used to get in cigarettes.

Thanks. I used to smoke between 2-8 ultra light cigarettes a day. I vape the 6mg eliquid but it seems like i'm vaping more than i used to smoke. Probably because i can do it indoors. Just wondering if i'm getting more nicotine than i used to when i smoked.

I dunno. I smoked 6-8 Marlboro Lights a day and switched to 6mg when I started vaping. That worked and I stopped cigs cold. I did start chain vaping, but I attributed that to the fact that my inner chain smoker had been released, but so much the nicotine. I then went down to 3mg with no problem and have since started mixing 3 and 0 without craving, including when I vape straight 0. 6 is now too high. I vape sporadically. When I'm not vaping for hours on end it doesn't cross my mind, unlike cigarettes when I smoked. But when I can vape I chain. This tells me its in the head and not the nic. Addicted to the act of smoking. Which I always knew and which is why I tried vaping and skipped gum and patches.

I think a lot on this thread were hardly smokers at all, could have just quit and skipped the e-vape. With e-cig there is a risk, you may have become tolerant and crave more nicotine than before. If the FDA outlaws this stuff then you are going to be in the same boat as a lot of us and its not a good one.
