Either cigs got something extra in them to make sure you absorb as much nic as you can ... or ... there is something about vaping where you do not absorb as much.
It's both actually.

First there is the absorption rate of vaping, which as previously noted is somewhere between 10% and 40% absorption.
And second there is the fact that they use ammonia in cigarettes to create a "crack nicotine" effect.

Just Google "ammonia nicotine" to see what's up with that.

SO, its apples to oranges here, but in priciple, a ml is same as a pack. Typically 20 drops is a ML. (depending on viscosity and dropper size)
No way is one milliliter a pack.

One milliliter of 24mg is more like half a pack at best.
That is assuming 40% absorption of full flavor smokes.

It might be a pack of ultra lights (at 0.5mg nicotine) given the vaping absorption rates.

...and what bothers me even more about this is all those years when they claimed smoking wasn't addictive -- and here they are adding every ingredient they can find to make it especially addictive. Pfff.

Agreed. Most of us vape 3ml, and most of us smoked +/- a pack a day. Doesn't make sense that we all suddenly tripled our nicotine intake without any ill effect.

Nicotine absorption levels aside, on average 3ml of liquid will vape about the same as on pack of analogs. Expanding on this, 30ml equals a carton of analogs. Considering 30ml liquid costs somewhere between $10 and $20usd, and a carton of analogs can cost $35 to $85(or more depending on where you live), savings on vaping comes somewhere in between $15 and $75 per 30ml bottle versus a carton of analogs.

Now considering the wide variances between how much vaping you do versus how much smoking on once did, your results may vary. But all in all, hardware excluded, vaping is cheaper.

My math is something like this:

3 drops = 12 puffs*
20 drops per 1ml
1ml = 80 puffs

Average analog is 12 puffs** = 3 drops of e-liquid
1ml = 6 analog cigarettes
30ml = 180 analogs
20 analogs per pack
30ml = 9 packs of analogs (close enough to a carton, which is 10 packs)

At $14 - $20 per 30ml bottle (carton of analogs) that's what I used to pay for a carton... 16 YEARS AGO!

* Give or take a few. Hardware used is a LR306 on a 3.7v PV.
** This assumes an overall average. Some people drag less but longer. Some drag less and let the rest burn while talking. Some people drag light and more often.

Hi there. Another noob to ECF here....Nancy. Originally from NY, now living in NZ. This post literally had me snort. The price for a 20 pack of analogs here is 16.20NZD ( abt 15 USD). We cannot even buy cartons here! Not just the price, but they arent even available retail.

Ok, that being said, the last time I was stateside (NY), a pack of Parliaments was 14USD in 2010. At that time, we in NZ were paying 12NZD (8USD, the exchange rate was different) for a 20 pack. Here, they want to be smoke free by 2025. Nic liquid is not sold, we have to import it in because its illegal to sell (but not to import).

When I did my calcs for juice, I based my nic on Vantage Ultra lights (that was what I smoked when I lived there, lightweight etc etc). 6 mg of premixed nic 75VG/25PG) at 115mls costs me 13USD. That bottle will last for EVER, relatively speaking. I just add concetrates depending on my mood. (i tend towards non sweetened melon or spicy mixes).

When (not if but when) the FDA (read big tobacco) gets their legislation through, we are hoping to be nic free. But now, there is the bruhahaha here about vaping in general....sigh. When America farts, we get the skid marked underwear. Thats my .25 on that (Inflation being what it is)

Hi, it looks like I am a minority, but 12mg was way too much for me. I finally bought 0 mg juice to match my 12mg juices and boy am I happy! I was lightheaded for two days before this, but with this new combo, I feel great. So I diluted from 12mg down to 4mg.. is anyone else in the same boat? I was smoking a pack a day of Marlboro lights, and during the experimental phase was mixing a few regular cigarettes to compare. I wanted to post this so that anyone experiencing the same lightheaded feeling can still have hope that this can work...I went from worried to relieved. Also, I feel like we absorb more nicotine using e-cigs. Here's why: it seems to me that the process of manual vs vaping also carries a different method of intake. What if the e-nicotine passes the blood brain barrier since it is in a mist of H2O instead of CO2.. Just a thought based on my experiences. Hope this helps some of you on the fence, also I'm using an Atmos Bullet to go Plus, which is slim and perfect for me.

I have been vaping for exactly a week and started out at 18mg of nic in my juice and haven't experienced any lightheadedness. I smoked 1 pad of marlboro menthol lights until I started vaping. I have ordered some more juice with 12 mg of nic and am hoping to wean myself off the nic gradually. I am looking forward to seeing how I do on the 12mg.

Well here's some mud for the nicotine intake question. I've been vaping PT and Puritanks and 18mg e-liquid for a majority 13 months vaping. Well, last week I got a Kayfun 3.1 ES, vaping same 18mg e-juice I began seeing symptoms of nic OD. Bought a 15ml bottle of my ADV with 6mg nic (lowest they had) to mix with my 18mg. Magic no more OD symptoms. So, the delivery system used should also be considered when you attempt to measure.

I guess that I never really though about the mL to pack equivalency, but I have consistently used 2-3.5mls a day for the last year and a half. Maybe a bit more while dripping.... But if you're doing it to quit you really just need to go with your urges. As someone pointed out earlier in the thread the nicotine isn't absorbed as efficiently through vaping, so you really kind of preemptively vape as the day goes along to keep from having a full blown nicotine meltdown. You'll most likely find yourself vaping more than you had smoked until you get used to a routine. Good luck, and I hope this helps some!

I vape 4ml to 5ml a day of 11mg/ml juice. A 50ml bottle will last me about 2 weeks if I'm not sitting around chain vaping.

I smoked 2 PAD of Doral Ultra Lights when I smoked. That was 60 packs a month. If the average pack of those cigarettes equals .4mg x 20 that would be 8mg nic per pack or 16mg for the day. I was inhaling part of that and the rest went up in sidestream smoke. For me, it looks like 44mg to 55mg of vaporized nicotine equals two packs of Doral Ultra Lights. That's what it takes now to satisfy my need for nic. I started out 4+ years ago with 24mg and did that for 3 years, then dropped my nic to 11mg.

Here's a list of common cigarettes along with their nic and tar levels. It's what I used to calculate my usage.
Nicotine, Tar, and CO Content of Regular Cigarette Brands in 2007
