How the heck did nic levels ever become base 12? 100mg/liter should have been metric i.e. base 10. We would have 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5. Not 48, 36, 24, 18, 12, 6, 3.
Wouldn't the math be easier?

Like every thing else. It starts with the first person establishing a procedure and if no one questions it, It becomes rule. I for one never took it as rule so If I'm 10,12,14mg It don't wig me out.

What really gets me is when people harp on if your not right on the money with exactly the correct mg with your final mix it won't taste right. Believe me + or - 1 or 2 mg won't make a difference. This science does not need to be as exacting as people lead you to believe.

I saw a t-shirt once that said:

There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

But I agree, I've wondered that myself. Maybe since a lot of larger quantity bottles are multiples of 4, 8, or 16 ounces (at least in the USA).

I'm old enough to remember that the USA was going to go metric in the 70s. Then in 79-80 with gas over a dollar, it was sold by the liter because the mechanical pumps didn't go over a dollar.

We still have miles and pounds and gallons and dozens.

I've been in places in Canada where they price by the kilo and sell by the pound. Or reverse.
