Hello all, new here. This is my second day vaping (for the second time) the first time I tried I started with a nicotine mix of 15mg (a guy mixed it for me at a market) Waaaaaaaaaaaay too strong and I made me feel really sick. So this time I got the 6mg. Which is quite frankly not cutting it!!! Do I go up to 12mg? I really really want this to work, have smoked for 40 years PLUS and need to kick the habit. Please advise

I smoked a pack a day of Marlboro Ultra Lights or Silver as they are now known. I started with 18 mg and also had a little nausea. What I found was that I needed to put it down more. Remember you didn't smoke cigarettes ALL day non stop so don't vapes non stop either. Try to do it when you want a smoke instead of like me, just to keep my hands busy. Although I can vape in my office, I still get up and go out with the smokers for a break. Then put it away for a while.

I know people that barely smoked and suck down 24mg all day. I smoked like a train and 18 almost knocked me down. I tried 12 for a while then dropped to 6. You can also mix what levels you use at different times of the day, maybe heavy in the morning and taper off during the day or whatever.

Point being you need to find what is right for you. you also have to get your nic levels stabilized, mine were all over the map for a few weeks until I got a rhythm down and where I wanted it. I wasn't doing too good until I found the sweet spot.

Hang in there.

Thanks Guys! To be honest, I have realized that if I take the vapour in slowly instead of sucking the ..... out of it (hehehe) it works. I honestly think I am ok with 6mg. If I am perfectly honest I think my REAL problem is that him indoors (hubby) is still on the analogues which is causing me a certain amount of resentment and the desire to hit him with a brick. Just kidding (only just) I am just happy to be not sucking the stinking smoke into my body and hope to stay that way from now on. :p

I'm thinking the guy in the market fudged up your mix. I would try 15mg again from a reputable dealer and see how you like it. Also make sure you use proper technique, don't vape like you smoked. Best way I can describe it is to vape like you smoked your first cigarette. When I first made the switch I was about to give up on vaping until somebody told me how to do it properly.

If I vape like I smoked my first cigarette that would mean going back to high school and vaping in the bathroom LOL, no really thanks, and I do know what you mean. I will take it gently

When I first quit, I had an eRoll ecig that was filled with 24mg Nic that was for EMERGENCIES, so when I was REALLY craving a cig, it had the look and feel of one with high nic content. My old all day vape was a 12mg ego-C Twist...

I'd keep a high nic liquid around incase you have that crazy craving. Anything is better than an analog.

This is why I am confused, because to be perfectly honest I smoked like the proverbial chimney! at LEAST a pack a day and for a very long time. However, the 15mg really did knock me sick. So I went as low as I could and it is probably too low. I am going to the vape store tomorrow and going to try some different flavours. I am NOT giving up, I really want to kick the stinking ciggies. Thanks for all the advice.

I'll just relate my experience and hope it helps.

First, I was a very heavy chain smoker for 40+ years. I started on cig-sized with cartos at 24mg. I also had some 18mg around so I used both...but mostly 24mg. That got me off cigarettes and I continued with that for 2-3 months.

After 2-3 months, I started to get a little loopy. What I called my "running around like a headless chicken" period. Sleeplessness, anxiety, the whole works. I did some research and read that, as your liver recovers from smoking, it no longer has to process the hundreds of chemicals in cigarette smoke. So it begins to process things like caffeine and sugar (and even nicotine) more efficiently. (I'm not a doctor, so don't take this as gospel) So I backed off to 15-18mg, and used more decaf. That got it under control.

Every 2-3 months, I found I needed to back off the nic level a little bit, but I was also using better equipment. Now, after nearly 2 years, I use 7.5mg and I'm back to full strength coffee. I'm finding it hard now to cut my nic level, so I may be at the bottom, but I keep trying to cut down to 6mg.

When I first started vaping, the standard mixes they had for tasting in the vape shop were 12mg strength. I wasn't able to inhale them, and it made me cough. They recommended I start with 6mg. Even though I smoked ultra lights, I was smoking 2 packs a day, and I thought 6mg was pretty low for me, but at least I made the transition and learned to inhale on that strength. (I do know this form of nicotine isn't absorbed via the lungs, only the mouth and nasal membranes, but it didn't feel like smoking to me if I didn't inhale.) I used 6mg for a week or so, then moved up to 12, which I decided was just a bit too strong. I've been making my own e-liquid for over half a year now, and I usually make it about 8-10mg. Still even use 6mg if I really want to just vape a lot some days. The higher strengths tend to give me acid indigestion.

You said you bought 15mg and then 6mg. If by chance both are the same flavor, you could combine equal parts of each one, and the result would be about 11.5mg. You could even further play with it from there, combining the 11.5mg with the 6mg to come up with a bit less than 9mg. Everyone is different. Just experiment some, and you'll find what's right for you.

And many congratulations to you! I also smoked for over 40 years, more like over 45 years. It's wonderful not to do that any longer. My one year anniversary is coming up on July 2nd. You can do this!

Congrats on taking the big step! It took me a bit to find the right level of nicotine, and figure out how to vape it right, but determination is a major factor in getting to that point. 33 years of nonstop cigs, and vaping really did work for me! Hang in there, keep trying til you find out what is right for you. With your level of commitment to finding a way out of the stinky world, you can do this!
