What about a wind up PV?

You could.... or shake-up..... magneto pv..... Still have a cap issue.

A "field" PV with a "wind-up" magneto/generator and R/C temp storage. Never need electricity. Go hunting for two weeks, no batts.

I know you were probably joking, but it would work. Still, cap issue. But yeah, wind like heck, take a hit, wind like heck.... lol. You could do it. Would look like a box with crank (like those emergency radios with a crank, or a shake-it magneto/induction coil) with a USB port and a direct pass-thru.

ROFL blue. Yeah, but really.... wind up is not new. See....

Hamilton Electronics - Hand-Crank Power AM/FM Generator #ARC-300

you'd end up with arms the size of that guy in Blue's new favorite video.

Thorn... potatoes? wtf? How does that relate to capacitance? Besides, if I wanted a chemical battery, I'd obviously use the lemon... they taste better :p

Unfortunately, ultracapacitors have not developed enough to replace common household batteries (or similar) yet. <snip>

Agreed. They are working on some cool batteries tho, using nano-"stuff". And some capacitors too.

Here's a cool battery link with longer cycle life (10 X) ....
A123Systems :: Products

there are tech stories about nano - caps. Here's hoping the future brings better high capacity/smaller caps.

Those are LiFePO4 batteries. Many people already use 2 stacked LiFePO4 rcr123's for 6V vaping.
Sadly they are rated at 3.3V mostly.
I've been using 2x 14500 LiFePO4's in a 5V regulated mod for a while. They work great. Capacity is a little lower, but LDO's don't heat up as much.
I need to build a switching VV but I've been lazy.

Atty, you might be better just trying to put together an inductance charger for a 3AA Box mod. There are plenty of 2AA inductance charger setups for Video Game console controllers that might be moddable, though I haven't looked at it much.
