It just amazes that people want to discuss bowel movments and farting on this forum. Bowel movements and gas are a private issue and I would not want to discuss this with anybody. I guess some of us are more open than others. Good grief.

It's a real medical concern for some people... it's not fart jokes and Beavis and Butthead humor for crying out loud.

It's odd that PG would constipate, especially since its not really being introduce to the GI tract. Nicotine stimulates peristalsis, and I know that a derivative of PG is used as an oral laxative. Cant remember if its Propylene Glycol or Polyethylene Glycol....
...
EDIT: Its Propylene Glycol, same stuff as Golytely which is used prior to bowel surgeries/colonoscopies to clear out the colon. Didn't realize that... good news for the "It's the same stuff in antifreeze" argument :D
Actually, the bowel prep stuff is polyethylene glycol (PEG-3350) with electrolytes. See nulytely.com for more information. The new stuff featured on that site, NuLYTELY, is a reformulation of the electrolytes (and supposedly taste) in GoLYTELY.

I know a guy that takes two ....s a day. In the morning, he drinks coffee and has to go, in the afternoon he takes a dip of chew and has to go. He is, as far as I can tell, totally unable to void his bowels without help.

If you are in that camp, you may need to use snus, or chew, or even cigarettes to keep things moving until you can learn to do it naturally.

Probiotics won't help, by the way. A healthy bowel movement is somewhere around 40% bacteria. If you mostly drop water in the toilet, probiotics can help restore healthy intestinal bacteria, but if you are solid and just not moving, they won't help at all. Try bran or other undigestable fibers to loosen things up, and other natural laxitives (prunes get lots of props in this thread).

Serious consipation can kill you. If you can't get things moving, see a doctor.

Try a spoon of psillium husks in a banana smoothie or sprinkled on your cereal each day. It's a bukling agent that absorbs water and cleans you out. But make sure you drink plenty of water!!!

Using laxativies like sienna or epsom salts should be done sparingly as you will become dependant and eventually they won't even work - Plus they are not good for you long term. Sienna can cause liver failure and too much salt is allways bad.

Plus the greatest way to improve your bowel function is activity... walk, run if you can. And jump rope/skipping is a great way to get s#%t happening, so to speak.

You can get psillium husks from horse feed stores usually much cheaper than from health food stores (and that's it's where the health food stores get it from anyway). They use it to help horses who have sand stuck in their gut from eating in sandy pastures. (so if you ever swallow a mouth full of sand you'll be set also :)

Psillum hisk is the same as in Metamucil but that is ridiculously expensive and full of sugar.

Remember it takes time to retrain the gut to operate properly once it is out if kilter and can take some people months and even years to get it back to normal. So don't stress about it because that just makes it worse.

Also, if you're taking calcium suppliments in vitamins or berocca try stopping that. calcium can cause troubles in this area...

Martha- I am so sorry this offends you. This is in the Health and Medical Issues Forum. In here we try to find out what issues we all have, seeing as how there has yet to be any long term studies done on vaping and vaporers. We talk about health, digestion, bowels, skin, stomache and other issues in order to find our way.
I do hope you are open with your doctor in order to get proper medical attention for whatever your ailment may be at the moment. Without unadulterated information to one another in this forum we would not have a clue as to what we need to do to straighten out our issues. So we consult one another. Could be just every day issues with most people, who knows.
I have never been a big water drinker and love my coffee. I also have never been a big bowel movement girl either! I have found water to be a huge player in this field. Gawd, I hate water. Seems the more of it I drink the better I get to know the porcelain god.

I'm theorizing. But basically CO has an anti-inflammatory effect on the bowels.

Post count isn't high enough for links but:

www(dot)ncbi(dot)nlm(dot)nih(dot)gov/pubmed/12912858

Nicotine has a greater laxative effect, however avn is getting nicotine.

I must be getting too much nicotine then because things are moving a little too easily for me. Sometimes I want to smoke just so I can have a normal bowel movement again. :(

Yep. I missread. Peg is golytely. Pg us used as well but it looks like more for bulk forming. I see it is also used in suppositories and capsules as well. I saw a Chinese website that had a peg version of eliquid as well. I also saw laxative references to polyalkalyne or some such. Doesn't look like those are too mainstream. I did recently have a patient getting a pg slurry. May have to call our pharmacy to see how common it is.
