I used to smoke occasionally in my house, but for the most part the garage was my smoking area. Recently a dear friend came to visit and I assured her it was OK to smoke while we visited. The smell of her burning cig didn't really bother me as I was vaping away.
After a few hours she was leaving and I walked her to her car. When i walked back into the house I almost gagged, wait, I did gag:shock:
I immediatly turned on the house fan and sprayed air freshener and opened all the windows, it was so nasty.
She came back a few days later and I had to tell her no more smoking in the house and she understood. I wish she would try a PV but is just not interested:(

........totally lost train of thought when I posted the following......hijacked thread for a minute...

It's funny. I always smoked menthol before. I absolutely despised regular cigarettes and considered them a waste of time. Now, I really don't prefer any menthol variety. I absolutely LOVE almost all tobacco flavors. It's freaky wierd. Mint is my favorite 'menthol' flavor because it seems to give the best hit for me, but I don't find myself using it much. I just got some mint juice so I may add a drop or two to my fav cowboy/kamel/dunhall cart...hmmm :) Actually, I think Greensmoke brand turned me against menthol cuz I was biting my nails waiting on greensmoke menthol carts to come in the mail, and when I tried them, I threw up a little in the back of my mouth. Ugh, Greensmoke tastes like crap, and I think I know why. Someone said they think they get so much vapor cuz there is very little flavoring, and they are all PG. I believe it. I was having the dehydration and odd occasional shortness of breath with Greensmoke. I have no trouble whatsoever with Vapor4life stuff :D Thank goodness :D

Geesh, I'm editing this cuz I got completely off track with this post. I meant to post this story in another thread lol. Here I was going to comment that I now understand a little why ex-smokers can sometimes be so irritating when around current smokers. I know some ex-smokers who are totally intolerant of cigarette smoke now, and I used to wonder why they weren't more sympathetic. Now, I am also so sensitive to cigarette smoke, it makes me almost physically ill to smell it on someone. I used to think people couldn't smell it on me when I came back from a break at work. Now I can smell it a mile away on coworkers, and I think it is disgusting...but I keep it to myself :D I don't want to be rude about it. I am still in awe that I ever smoked in the house.

You can't go wrong buying all your stuff from Vapor 4 Life, they do have quality. I can attest to that.

I wish I could ban smoking in my house. My hubby still smokes but since he had a total knee replacement stairs are not his friend so going outside to smoke is not an option for him. I wish I could find the magic ecig for him that would get him to switch.

The KR808 won't make him switch?
Is that why you are always crying?

I still let smoking family members smoke in "the areas". It does suck and stink though...

Never happen. I won't send smokers outside the way I was sent outside. As it is, I can already tell they feel self-conscious since I don't do it anymore....and they also feel strange asking if it is OK to smoke. I am talking about friends of 20 years or so (smoking buddies)....it is actually an awkward moment. If the weather is nice, chances are we are outside anyway....and if not, I won't send them off into the rain and cold.

My hubby and I have talked about the same thing. We have a lot of friends that smoke and I really don't want to send them outside. The house we live in right now, it's not that big of a deal. We are looking for one to buy and as much as I don't want it to be smoked in I really don't have the heart to say no to it. I refuse to turn into a rabid anti-smoker just because I don't do it anymore. I think what I'm going to do is have several ecigs charged and ready to go for the ones that do smoke to use. I have more than enough of a variety of liquids that there is bound to be a flavor they will like. The hubby says he is going to build a shed like place on the back deck so people are out of the weather. He is the one that is adamant about not smoking in the new house, and that is including him. Actually, I'm torn about the whole situation.

Unlike most people here, I got dragged kicking and screaming to vapor. I simply got taxed out of smoking....which is what the smoke nazis wanted. Granted, the experience was a hugely pleasant surprise to be sure, with many bonuses (like quitting). However, my heart is still with the smokers. I think I still burn one a day just to remind myself I haven't surrendered completely. ;)

Like the last scene from Papillon where Steve Mcqueen shouts.... "Hey you ba******, I'm still here!" :D

That's funny, I guess I didn't realize so many smokers still smoke in their homes.
My wife and I both smoked (until we found this site, that is) and we've never smoked in our house, or the apartment we lived in before that.

I smoked in the first apartment I ever had about 15 years ago - lived there for 9 months. During that time I tried to quit (unsuccessfully, obviously). The day I moved out I realized that everything I owned absolutely reeked of smoke. From that day forward I told myself I'd never smoke inside again.

What's funny is, now that I've quit and my sense of smell is back, I'm realizing that my house still smells like smoke even though we never smoke inside (it's nowhere near as strong, but it's there). My guess is it's from our clothes, and the constant going out in the backyard and coming right back in.

So I dont' know - maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't think twice about a friend asking me not to smoke in their home. I wouldn't ever assume it was okay, and I can only guess that if your friends are asking if they can smoke in the house that they aren't assuming it's okay either (hell, I ask my friends if it's okay for me to vape in their houses).

Obviously it's not a big deal if you want to let people smoke in your house, that's up to you - I'm just saying don't do it out of a feeling of obligation, because if they're friends then they'll understand.

The problem arises in that for so many years, my friends would never ask to smoke in my house....because I was already doing it. They had no reason to feel uncomfortable or ask permission. Now, they know I only vape in the house and being courteous....they feel the need to ask. That's where the awkwardness comes in. They might be feeling that quitting is tough if someone else is smoking (true with standard methods, but not with vapor)...and I am going overboard trying NOT to be a reformed smoker (the worst).

Just one those thing you never think about when you make a major change in your life I guess. How it affects your social life. ;)

I don't fault anyone who decides that their house is to become a no smoking area once the start vaping. And even the one or two I still burn are outside now. Just can't bring myself to add that restriction. Maybe a year from now I might feel differently....who knows.

Well, we both have quit smoking cigs in the house. We have painted, replaced the carpet and tore everything out and either replaced or cleaned it. It took us 2 mths to accomplish this.

One of our friends came over and brought a date that smoked (and drank too much) and she lit up outside automatically. I think people know when they come into your home whether they should or should not.

I can't stand the smell of smoke anymore. it took me about a week to get the smell of smoke completley out of my car and now my friends complain at me when I tell them they can't smoke in the car. I tell them tough titty; take your nasty habit outside.

Not smoking has had an affect on my social life because I really cannot stand to visit my friend's home anymore. He only smokes in his garage but it's not ventilated and he just bakes the whole place.

For one, he always wants to go to the garage every five minutes - I don't even want to be in there while he is smoking. But even worse he has air ducts that draw in air from the garage. When his heater clicks on I can literally see stale smoke coming from his vents into the house. It's nasty.

So whenever he wants to chill I make him come to my place.

I don't forbid smoking in my house for visitors because I don't want them to feel unwelcome; I want them to be comfortable. I do notice the smell a lot, especially after they're gone. I find that opening the windows for a few days and the liberal spraying of air fresheners and Febreze does the trick. If people smoke only occasionally in your home, it's not going to have a permanent stench.

I refuse to become an anti-smoking zealot. It's just rude.

I'm weird; I still like the smell of smoke. I've smoked in every house/apt I've been in (and all my cars) and they are still smoking areas. I don't mind it; I still have no compulsion to smoke a cig.
...

Then I must be weird too. I think even after I'm completely off cigarettes (down to about 5/day), I will not lose my fondness for the smell of cigarette smoke. Maybe because I've lived around it for more than a half century. And I agree with the handful here who couldn't imagine depriving their friends. The world (my world, at least) has gotten so smoker-hostile, and if my future entirely-ex-smoking self were ever to catch me contributing to that, it might well send me back to cigarettes.
