We can hijack this thread and talk about poop hahahaha!

There have been quite a few poop threads on ECF. When I think it all has been said one will pop up with something I've never thought of. Case in point: last year the vooping thread. Pooping & vaping at the same time o_0

Back on the subject :) Have you tried making and hair rinses out of steeped herbs? Rosemary and sage steeped strong make a nice substitute for shampoo.

Hmmm let's not make this a bm thread... k? If it goes that way (<~~pun? not intended?) it will probably get shut down like all the others before it.

I am very interested in everyone's no (sham)poo ideas. I have tried this off and on.
I am currently trying just using a sulfate free/silicone free conditioner to gently remove any dirt. I have very curly hair and it is very dry. Ugh. It never looks greasy and doesn't feel greasy either.

Interesting. I have long, thick and fine rock star hair. It takes me forever to rinse the shampoo out.

I've wondered about not using it.

Hints and tips? Recipes?

Please help me cut my water consumption in half! LOL!

1/2 OZ. of chopped rosemary in the bottom of a quart jar, add boiling water until three quarters full. Let steep until cool, pour through a strainer into vessel of choice. If your hair gets oily or you need to get rid of product build up add a shot or two of vodka after straining and shake :) I am going to try making one with sage sometime soon. Beer works good for getting product build up off as well.
BTW: 1/4 - 1/2 half cup per wash should be enough. Start at the scalp & let it sit for a few minutes.

Robin01, I've heard a lot of curly haired people do quite well not shampooing. I would think since your hair is dry, you could benefit from it. It did take my scalp a good six months to get used this method. I used shampoo, stripping away all natural oils, had to use conditioner, but would have to shampoo again the next day because just my scalp seemed greasy. It took me quite a bit of trial and error, and just getting used to no 'poo. After a couple of weeks of washing with baking soda and using vinegar as a rinse on my ends (the internet instructions said not to use it on my scalp) I started getting dandruff. Turns out the cure for dandruff is vinegar, so I started using it on my scalp, too. Dandruff gone! For me personally, what works best, I just dump a few tablespoons of baking soda in a coffee cup (I only "wash" a couple times a week now) and fill it with water from the shower. Dump it slowly over my scalp and spend a good couple of minutes massaging my scalp. In my shower I keep a spray bottle with white vinegar (white works better on my blonde hair than apple cider vinegar) and I spray that on my hair and sometimes scalp, and rinse that out after a bit. My ends do get dry and split, always have, just keep it trimmed. Some days I only use water. But since I use this method, I can't use hairspray or hair dye. I was spray painting my fence one day and got black in my hair, and I was freaking out wondering how I would wash that crap out. The baking soda took it out no problem! I would say the trick to going shampoo-free is just sticking with it until your scalp realizes it doesn't have to over-produce oil. And wearing a cute hat in the meantime.
