Robin01, I've heard a lot of curly haired people do quite well not shampooing. I would think since your hair is dry, you could benefit from it. It did take my scalp a good six months to get used this method. I used shampoo, stripping away all natural oils, had to use conditioner, but would have to shampoo again the next day because just my scalp seemed greasy. It took me quite a bit of trial and error, and just getting used to no 'poo. After a couple of weeks of washing with baking soda and using vinegar as a rinse on my ends (the internet instructions said not to use it on my scalp) I started getting dandruff. Turns out the cure for dandruff is vinegar, so I started using it on my scalp, too. Dandruff gone! For me personally, what works best, I just dump a few tablespoons of baking soda in a coffee cup (I only "wash" a couple times a week now) and fill it with water from the shower. Dump it slowly over my scalp and spend a good couple of minutes massaging my scalp. In my shower I keep a spray bottle with white vinegar (white works better on my blonde hair than apple cider vinegar) and I spray that on my hair and sometimes scalp, and rinse that out after a bit. My ends do get dry and split, always have, just keep it trimmed. Some days I only use water. But since I use this method, I can't use hairspray or hair dye. I was spray painting my fence one day and got black in my hair, and I was freaking out wondering how I would wash that crap out. The baking soda took it out no problem! I would say the trick to going shampoo-free is just sticking with it until your scalp realizes it doesn't have to over-produce oil. And wearing a cute hat in the meantime.
