Noob checking in

Hello all. I'm Justin from SA, TX. Last weekend I decided to do my research so I could make an informed first purchase. When I finally found ECF I learned more in 30 minutes than I did in several hours on my own


I placed an order with CCV Sunday night after seeing so many positive reviews and CCV being a good one-stop-shop. I don't believe it has shipped yet so it doesn't looking like I will be vaping by this weekend as planned. But I thought I would get registered in case questions arise once I receive my PV.

Here's what I ordered:

900 mAh Ego Pass-thru

DELRIN DRIP TIP

RY4 30ML @ 18 mg

Andrew said he would throw in a needle and syringe for free after I emailed asking if they had any. Couldn't find them on the site. I have a shopping cart with BBW full of different flavors to try once I get accustomed to the basics of vaping, and decide if I want change up the nicotine level. I will most likely order another battery and try out some cartos @ slightly diff ohms, also.

That's all I have for now. Any words of wisdom from the vets?

don't go too high on the ohms of your cartos, those batteries you have are fixed voltage and need like 1.5-2 ohm max resistance to perform worth a crap...also for cartomizers the best site to go is ikenvape, as they just simply have the best ones...also might want to check out a few juice sample packs like the ones from halo or ttteliquids.

Thanks for the suggestions on sample packs. I've been scanning the Top 5 Vendors link for vendors, but there are an overwhelming amount of vendors. I was about to do a search for places that carry samplers.

sample packs are easy to find...I know halo sites it as that's where I got samples when I started vaping...I know vapors choice does it as well, plus you can get sample bottles free with any order there...just look around until you find the flavor profile you like best.

Hey i'm a noob to the scene myself and was planning on making my own 510 usb passthrough from radioshack parts.

I was thinking just purchasing a passthrough would save me some time and effort, however I don't wanna shell out the bucks for a 5V passthrough and am afraid that lower voltages won't deliver to my expectations as i'm trying to replace the feeling of thick rich hookah smoke.
What voltage do you expect that passthrough to be running at?

[Edit] Just realized that that was .9 Watts, not amps which is why I asked your expected voltage. It looks like you're starting off at ~1.2 A. I was planning on starting at ~1.7 A so I'd very much like to hear your impression of the passthrough!

Not sure I'm following you. From what I understand the pass-through won't be a "real pass-through" as it won't pass the 5v through to me. I will just be charging and toking at the same time. The battery capacity is 900 mah or 0.9 ah.

The volts will be 3.7 (or maybe it was 3.2). My brains goes on vacation when it comes to electricity. A DIY sounds like a great project though. Be sure to take a lot of pics for posting.

From looking at the "im properly confused" post on the front page, and my basic elec knowledge, the number of amps running through your carto will determine how hot it gets and that obviously has all kinds of implications on the vapour. (Hotter usually means thicker, more flavourful but too hot means burnt nasty)

And to convert from the .9 Watt (900 mAh is another way of saying it) specification given, I used the formula W = (V^2)/R or watts = volts squared over resistance and then ohm's law, V = current times resistance. But that would be different if your passthrough is also charging the battery!

And I will most defs be recording my project, despite it being very well documented here already!

Ah, thanks for clearing it up.....sort of LOL. When picking mine, I looked at what everyone was pleased with and what I could run at lower ohms since I understood that to be a contributing factor towards better vapor/ TH. Also, I wanted longer battery life since I do a lot of driving and working long hours. Hence me chosing a charge + Vap battery.

I did a crash course on a Friday night, learning as much as I could, but I still have quite a ways before I grasp it all!

Thanks Carlton. I ordered some juice from Good Prophets. Man they are quick! I got a shipping notice 30 min after ordering! And they prices are insane... 30ml for $6. I know I should be getting samplers, but when it is that cheap, why not?

Thanks flylane. It's good to be here. I couldn't be happier with my first full day of vaping and I owe it to everyone on ECF.

My Good Prophets juices came in Friday. I also emailed GP with a question about eGo cones and the 410 fitting. They responded in less than an hour! The eGO PT and RY4 from CCV came in Saturday. CCV also included a syringe for filling the cartos and an extra drip tip. Apparently, fulfilling orders takes a little longer with them, but they do give freebies and have quality products for great prices.

My juices from GP were 24mg and a bit too much. I found the 18mg from CCV to be more on target. I tried the PV on Saturday but went to an AHL hockey game (go rampage!) so I smoked analogs, socially. Today I only vaped and didn't have a single craving. It kind of blew my mind! The TH from the PV was much more than I expected. I guess I was thinking it would be similar to a hookah (hardly any TH at all).


My next step will be reading the DIY juice threads. I only smoked 1/2 pack per day so the savings won't really hit me unless I DIY the juices.

Yes, waiting for the next new package is exciting. I was surprised by how unanimously people sing the praises of vaping. I understand now! Lol. It is certainly different and takes some getting used to. Nicotine gum, homeopathic remedies, and cold turkey never came close to being solutions, but vaping gives me the TH and plenty of nicotine when I need it.

Hey Norman. I listed my order in my first post. The battery appears to last most of the day. I can't really give a good review since I don't have a comparison, but I am happy with my selection. I didn't order a kit per se. Just picked out what I felt suited my needs best. I am happy with the cartos, but not totally satisfied. There isn't any leaking, taste seems fine, etc. The large (18 guage??) needle I use to fill the cartos starts smashing the polyfill down after a couple refills. This makes the fluid leak out a little and not hold as much juice.

I am thinking of picking out a clearomizer (mini nova perhaps). From what I can tell they don't use polyfill. Can anyone elaborate on the design for me? From what I can tell from the too brief a description on websites, they have their own atomizer and you just pour the juice - no syringes or dripping all day.....?
