Noob coil building safety questions

Hi everyone!
I'm pretty new to the world of mechanical mods and I had a question (or questions) about "safe" vaping.

I've watched a bunch of vids on coil building and i'm getting a lot of mixed information in terms of what would be considered safe.

I've built a single coil 28g a-1 kanthal with 9 wraps around a 2mm drill bit and that gets me 1.3 to 1.31 ohms. I built an identical coil and when i put that in as a dual coil build I get around .64-.67 ohms. Looking at "safety charts" it seems to be telling me that this is extremely unsafe with a fully charged battery but the vids are telling me that's what is good to vape at.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I'm setting it up ohm

Tobh v2.5 atty
28g a1 kanthal wire
hcigar Nemesis
efest 18650 3.7v 2500mah battery.

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum Life is PChi. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are new to mech mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery/safety experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs that address battery safety, Ohm's Law, CDR (continuous discharge rating/Amps) and how they all work together are detailed below:

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Welcome Life is PChi! Susan got you a whole set of links that are VERY GOOD reading. When you're looking at batteries, the maH doesn't tell you what its Continuous Discharge Rating is. CDR is way more important than the maH. Note that a lot of batteries advertise a Maximum Discharge Current which is more like a "pulse" rating. Your continuous is likely to be much less, especially if you have eFest batteries.

I usually think of my eFests as 1/2 their listed rating, and then NEVER build to draw any more than 50-80% of that. So, if I have a 35A eFest, I consider it a 17A continuous discharge, and then will only build something that could draw about 10A, maybe 12A if I'm feeling frisky ;)

Get familiar with Ohm's Law and use Steam Engine | free vaping calculators as a reference guide for coil building and battery information.
