Noob help

I just got an AGA-S genesis style atty from COV and I needed a new wick (noob that I am, I shorted out immediately and had neglected to buy more wire. ) I took the coil and wick out of a vivi nova head and after much swearing got it mounted semi correctlyish. It taste really burnt, I tried brushing the coils, but meh. Any tips? On the plus side, I'm super proud I figured that vivi nova thing out. Here's my set up.

maybe a lil too tight with the wrap, and see how the bottoms is really red? you gotta get rid of that by moving the coils up and down and get the glow even

Thanks. I'll see what I can do. I don't seem to have much play on it, but i'll give that a try.
