Hi folks! Im Kat and I've only been vaping since Christmas. I'm using a Halo Triton with mostly Halo juices (and some LiQua) which neither companies reveal their PG/VG ratio therefor I have no starting point with where to customize my e juice PG/VG ratios on my own :(.
So my question is--What would be a good mix for a beginner who gets an awful sore throat during and after vaping? I've just discovered Mt Baker Vapor which Ive already fallen in love with btw:vapor:! Im ready to place my first order but I have no idea what combo to use . Plus Ive heard that upping VG will dilute my flavors. Anyone got any advice or ideas? Or do any of you know what pg/vg Halo or Liqua use ? Then at least i'd have a starting point to work with.

I was also wondering about voltage and ohms if I do up my VG... do I need to start vaping at higher ohms or voltage? I do not currently have a V V battery but I plan on getting one very soon. I'm using the starter kit which came with a 4.0 or 4.2 voltage and around 2.2 ohm coils. (If any of you know otherwise, let me know bc I just had to figure that out myself via online research--Halo did not list that info on my packing slip.)

Thanks so much guys and keep on a vaping:vapor::2cool:

I'd say go to a site and order a mixture of various ratios. I use 50/50 most of the time. Different flavors have a different feel on the throat too. Citrus and menthol have a stronger throat hit versus say a chocolate. I bought some VG that I use to dilute juices that are a little too harsh.

As far as different voltages depending on ratio of the juice, I haven't noticed any need to adjust depending on juice ratios. Just put the voltage to your liking.

Hello :) I do 100% VG most of the time. Some vendors give you the option of adding a flavor shot (or several). Doing that in 100% VG e liquid helps. I make my own, and add quite a bit of flavor. When I was still using eGo styles on fixed voltage, and ordering juice I'd do 20% PG and 80% VG. Even that low of PG was too much after a while. You don't really need a certain voltage for 100% VG.

Halo's juices, from my experience seem to be around an 80/20 PG/VG ratio. When I first started vaping with their juices, I had really bad sore throats and quickly reduced my PG levels. I'd go for at least a 50/50 and see where you go from there. My sore throat issues went away after I went to a 50/50 blend. I'm now vaping 20/80 blends and 100% VG because I am a singer, and the more VG, the better for me. Most companies that specialize in VG juices adjust their flavorings accordingly. Now, with MBV, they offer you options of flavor shots, which I don't know a ton about, so be sure to browse the MBV threads here for some flavoring advice.

Now, as far as resistance and voltage, if you are looking to get new gear, go for the lower resistance coils (1.5-1.8) for better performance from your average eGo style batteries. I've found that VG juices can handle slightly higher voltages, but be aware that they also gunk up coils faster.

Cheers to you! Hope this helps!

Well thanks so much folks! Y'all have been super helpful:D! I'm learning so much from this forum already! So RubyRoo, can you refresh my memory about the coil res rules? Is it higher ohms equals cooler vape and lower is hotter? So if I use a higher voltage can I use a higher res coil too ( I think I'd like a cooler vape) or how exactly does that work? Or is that what will gunk up my tank as you were saying? All that coil vs voltage stuff just confuses the crap outta me :?:lol

thats correct kat eyez, higher res 2.5-3.0ohm is cooler and can handle higher voltages. lower res 1.5-2.0 ohm heats faster and wont be good in higher voltage settings. Also the higher the voltage the more th you may feel. so you may want to try out higher resistance 2.5-3.0 ohm with mid-low voltage. 4-5 volts.

Because you're already suffering from sore throat and talking about bumping up voltages I think it would serve you well to learn about the voltages and ohms. IE: if you raise voltage, vape will be "hotter" or more intense and if you lower ohms, same thing. Right now, your throat may appreciate lower voltage and higher ohms. No need to invest in the more expensive variable voltage devices until you have this worked out. But, do step over to discussions/info on voltages and ohms.

You're very welcome Kat Eyez... payin it forward for all the help I got here. Since you already have a sore throat I would say start at the lowest, probably 3.3 to 3.5 on your device which would normally be too low for 3.0/2 ohm attys. I'm trying to figure out what you have as most VVs do go down that low. I don't know of anything that starts out at 4.0 and goes up from there. But once your throat starts feeling better, 3.0/2 should be okay at 4.0 voltage and you might even be able to push it up to 4.5 but I doubt it. It sounds like you have one of those sensitive ones. .... Ooops, sorry, maybe I misunderstood and you just ordered another VV one from Halo and if its a standard VV, it will go down as low as 3.3. If you don't like it or there's a problem with 3.0 ohms, then just bump it up slowly until it does and vape there until your throat feels better. You're always safer vaping the lowest voltage and highest ohms you enjoy. I've settled in at 3.3 volts with a 1.8 or 2.2 atty or 3.7 volts with a 2.5 atty ... those two combos give about the same amount of throat hit if you want to try that when you're all better.
