Our apartment building has gone to a zero tolerance smoking policy. I read the fine print and at least they did not put in a prohibtion against ecigarettes. But I need to purchase an analog substitute, like yesterday. And I know you can make horrible mistakes with any consumer purchase when buying under pressure. Looking for suggestions from experienced users as to the best overall options & values in the marketplace. And suppliers you love and suppliers you might suggest I avoid. I don't mind a relatively high initial cost, provided the quality and warranty is there. And if the refill supplies are a good value.

This is all very new to me. And the only local option I have found is to go to 7-Eleven and purchase njoy. From what I have read on the forums so far that doesn't seem like a very good idea. And I'm completely lost about the reputation of suppliers since I have never purchased anything like this before.

Speaking of which: Since it seems like all this has to be done via mail order, any major mistakes you made when you first when digital? Underestimated how long your supplies would last? Would have bought more batteries sooner - rather than later? Stuff like that...

Input greatly appreciated. But I won't hold you to your opinions.

Thanks for the fast response! Pack a day - give or take, depending on stress level. Pall Mall Blue 100's - formerly called Pall Mall lights. You bring up another newbie issue with that question: converting smoking habits to the strength of the cartridges as stated in ML's. I don't know how to do that math!

I would only do the seven elven thing in case of emergency As far as what to buy If you are serious about coming off analogs and want a good e-cig then either get an ego or e-go T depending on if you want to fill carts or not. They have some really good reviews on U-Tube on both and will show you how to use both. As to where to get them Liberty Flights is one good place and they have a 20% coupon code for their stuff Look up in the left hand corner of their home page. Other good places are e cig supply esmokey treats FreedomsmokesUSA although they stay out of stock a lot and they have a coupon code also on their homepage If you will go to the General Discussion Thread of the forum they have a Master Code List that will give you all of the vendors who have codes and what the percentage off is. Hope this helps

I used to smoke Pall Mall first the lights, then the ultra lights, 18mg should be a good starting place, but also order 12mg when you decide to order online, so you will have both....
Here is a link to liberty-flights.com with a 20% discount

I'd get the Riva ego kit at Liberty Flights. It cost 29.99 and contains everything you need except juice. Pick up a box of cartomizers.

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

I don't think they ship over the weekend, but they do ship priority from Calif. I'd get juice from a different vendor though.

Backwood Brew has good juice as do many other juice vendors. I vape 24 mg. Get at least 30 ml to start.

The 7-11 2-piece model Njoy Npro aka 2-n-1 is an RN4081 - not one of the most popular models but you can get parts for it at a couple of vendors.

However most people here use manual batteries because they are safer from getting damaged by juice leaks and won;t turn on accidentally from wind or vibration. Manuals also give you more control of your hit. You could get an RN4081 manual battery at AZSmokeFree. Downside is not as much stuff is available for Rn4081.

I think it's better to get something from the 510 family or KR808D-1 (KR808D-1 is also Vapor4Life) because these two threading are usually supported for new kinds of cartomizers etc.

Figuring 100mah of battery charge is somewhere around an hour use for a moderate vaper, maybe 1.5 hours for a light vaper, using a standard resistance atomizer or carto

510 - a small 3-piece, 180mah
510 w/ mega xl batteries - 280mah and about 128mm long with a Boge cartomizer
KR808D-1 or vapor4Life - standard batteries are 280mah and it's 120mm long w/ a V4L carto - a bit warmer hit than 510

or the fat battery versions of 510 like Ego or Riva 510, for 650mah and higher (and for KR808D-1 compatible the fat battery models are Elegant Easy from CigEasy, PigCig from LeCig, Kanger version of Vgo). The fat battery models can also use low resistance hotter versions of atomizers and cartomizers (though those do drain the battery faster). The 510 fat battery models have the most stuff available for them including tank attys and tanks

Swedishfish got it right in my book. Get the Riva Deluxe for 34.95 and some juice. I started out with some Chinese 555 from MadVapes at 24mg. It kept me off cigs. then I searched around and found what I like. It really won't matter at first cause you won't taste very much at the start but if you stick with it your taste buds will return and then you can develop your palette. The deluxe riva has the boge cartos included instead of an atty and cart. Much easier to get started and stay started. Keep the cartos filled and you won't go for the analogs first opportunity.

I suggested the Deluxe mohawkx, not that it is that important, but sometimes, it seems, that others are not reading what the op is saying, they are just telling them what they like.....and with so many different varied opinions, we are gonna scare some of these members away by over loading them with too much info.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Mostly people just want other people's opinions based on experience, so it's all cool. But we were on the same page. :) I've made some bad calls because I didn't realize the op's over riding agenda in the question. I told one guy to stick with his cigarettes, based on his criteria, LOL

The e-cig is really breaking out to the mainstream due to public awareness and advancements in the delivery systems. I expect it to be like computers and the technology and user friendly aspect to square itself every 2 years. Believe it or not we are living in the golden age of e-cigs. We are pioneers in the development and use of these with total unregulated markets and purchases. Regulation will come soon and we'll wax nostalgic over the good old days when you could by an unregulated bottle of nicotine for 12 bucks. In ten years organic tobacco products will be a speciality item and all popular brands will be sold and regulated e-cigs. The average Joe will pay 10 bucks for a 510 with the battery life of a day and a half and enough cartos equal to two packs of smokes. It will come in the same package as they use today. Don't mean to bring you down, but.......
Yeah the people running this site better scramble to meet the increased demand for information and support networks for the e-cig market. They have a gold mine here and better get a bigger shovel.

I'm new to this too...2 weeks and 1 day :), but definitely buy extra batteries, atomizers/cartos, tanks, LOTS of juice. Backwoods Brew is VERY good and being new to this vaping experience, I went with the eGo-T from Cignot. The eGo-T is a tank system and a tank lasts for hours. If you need something FASTER than FAST, Vicki at Cignot is who you need to buy from! Pay $3.00 for Priority Mail and get it in 2 days. If you do go with an eGo-T, get the LR atomizers! They're a much better hit and vapor.
Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store.

I worked a kiosk. We sold some very nice units, and I love em.
Now I'm talking cig sized units, which I think is the way to go for a novice, and filled carto's as well, since they are without mess, and the least hassle.
They are the KR808D-1's and have an excellent battery life as well as a good fluid capacity of ~1ml, which should be equal to a pack of cigs, depending on your inhaling habits. The cartomizers(carto's) are somewhat a standard and are considered the tops in 2 piece technology (or considered in the top 3, by writers here in ECF).

Secondly I use 510 models, which are probably more commonplace. Their general battery power is similar but is 1/2v less in
under load voltage. Also with disposable carto's . Generally the 510 carto's seem a little better, but not by much.

Either way, you will need a good battery with enough longevity to go a day (or 1 packs worth) of vaping. Generally I suggest a 150mah battery (since they are real close to cig size) and an additional 250mah battery (which has the capacity to go all day, but is a slight bit longer and heavier..like smoking a 110mm cig)
Next a charger, which generally comes with any kit.
Finally a selection of carto's. Generally they come in a 5 pack, and run about $8-10.oo for 5. Consider that is a 1/2 carton of cigs, but also remember you won't be running down to the 7-11 for refills, so stock up accordingly as to not run short.

(now mind you, many here are not fans of carto's and if they are, they want to refill them. That;s good for later but to get you started, simplicity and a good unit is key)

You can go on many sites and find both model # units. Their carto's come with a variety of flavors, and for now, it might be best to stick to basic tobacco flavors. Prefilled carto's are quit good for basic use and basic flavors. We morph from there.

On your tobacco usage now, might I suggest you try a Camel or a Marlboro knockoff in about a 11mg. . 16 mg might be too high in nicotine , based on your current tobacco usage and type. If you still crave a cig, then you kick up to 16mg, or at least have em around for those "crave" times

I know there are many styles, mods, big battery options, etc. Use the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Stupid).
Keep to the basics and don't worry right away about refilling/dripping/ special carto's... YET.
As you play and get into it for awhile, the priorities are....
1) Dial into the flavor(s) that best suit you.
2) Dial into a nicotine level that is satisfactory
3) Dial into a unit that is dependable and a supplier who is swift and reliable
4) Dial into a vapor you like (optional).

If you get all of that dialed in, you will lose interest in cigs.

Good luck and feel free to ask away and keep us posted.

You got a lot of good advice, but don't let all the info drive you crazy - you really need to just jump in and get started. Please ask questions if there is anything that doesn't make sense, then just buy something based on one of the recomendations above.

If you are like most people, you'll want to upgrade or at least refine the experience once you get started - but it is best just to buy something decent and jump right in!

Biggest mistakes:
  • Underestimating having charged batteries. Either buy something with long lasting batteries, OR extra batteries OR have a means to charge them constantly.
  • Underestimating the supplies you'll need - cartomizers, bottles of refill eliquid. At least with priority mail, If you order early from a place that ships same day, most shipments get to Boston in 2 business days - but try to order what you need a week ahead of time at least, just to be safe.

There are a lot of great helpful people here that will walk you through the whole experience!

Good Luck!

ps - You did the first thing right - you found ECF before you did anything else :)
