I do apologize if this has been covered. Proud first time owner of a Chi Yoo clone. But I have no idea on what coils to build in the future. I like my Vape smooth and not hot. I was looking around YouTube and noticed a user by the name Riptrippers. He showed how to do a ton of coil builds and honestly I don't know what it all means when he says ohms watts. Kanthal wires... My questions are. 1. Difference between the Kanthal and other wires? 2. Explanation between ohms and watts etc. 3. Explanation of the different type of coils and benefits of each. Thoughts on them? ( Tiger coil, Minicoil, Macro coils. Too many lol) Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the stupid questions. :(

My buddy has a ohm meter I can use. I know that I won't go blindly into it without research first. But do you guys have a coil build preference? My buddy said for me to start with a micro build. I like my Vape cool and powerful clouds. I also understand that more coils mean more resistance right?

This can be dangerous. I support everyone's right to vape as they wish. Just learn as much info about battery chemistry/safety and all of whats involved before taking the plunge. Not trying to be the annoying buzz kill or anything but this comes with responsibilities that I fear many people choose to ignore. I do think it can be done safely if you make sure you are well informed first.

I do have a build preference and it's the micro coil. I've got a handy way to make them . I use a very small screwdriver shank and wrap a 6 wrap of 28 gauge kanthal once it's wrapped I compress it evenly to the base of the screwdriver then I remove the coil and take a pair of tweezers and compress the coil again. While compressed I fire the coil with a butane torch then temper it in water. Out of the water you get a perfectly compressed micro coil. Always remember to use a ohm reader, know your batteries limitations and NEVER go past those limits. Be safe.. hope this helps.

Someone literally had a mod explode at a cloud chasing contest yesterday, so the danger is real. If you vape unsafely you are literally holding a pipebomb in your hand and to your face. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-vaping-discussion/594756-explosion-vape-blast.html

Battery incidents are almost always from user error. Here is further evidence of another mishap:

The information resources are available here for you to do your research. Read, watch YouTube videos, read some more, and watch more videos. There are no shortcuts. Do your homework before you even start to wrap your first coil. Gather the appropriate supplies and tools before you wrap your first coil. This is advanced vaping. Not difficult to learn, but it must be done properly to be safe.

Know the right batteries to use in a mechanical mod for sub ohm builds.

Mechanical mod safety.

Learn Ohm's Law as it purtains to vaping.

Information Resources for Your First RBA

Tools & Supplies you will need to build coils.

This will get you started to learn what you need to know. And that's not even getting into the different kinds of coil builds or wick materials. Start simple and only advance to more difficult builds once you have perfected the simple stuff. Good luck and vape safe.

Last week I had the mod in my avatar with an 18350 battery and a .8 ohm coil in my front pocket of my shorts in a small cloth sunglasses bag. Walking around and went to vape and when I pulled it out of the bag I dropped it on the ground because of the heat. The locking ring had loosened just enough to allow it to fire. Luckily it didn't do any real damage, but I had to wrap my hands in order to touch it and take it apart. I have been building coils for over a year and been working in electronics for over 20. These beautiful little pieces of happiness can be quite dangerous if you don't respect them.

That being said, please read up and pay attention to what the other members are talking about. We all want what you want, and that is to be smoke free and to enjoy vaping safely. We don't want to use your picture as an example to the next person that asks.:)

You didn't say which atomizer yr using.
There's Kanthal and nichrome, there's a slight variation in resistance between them and most people use kanthal.
Id'e say the best one to start with is 30AWG
Rip trippers builds are usually advanced builds for advanced users and you need to start with the basics, which is a simple single micro coil.
You need to have a basic understanding of ohm's law and the limitations of your battery before you even start.

There's a lot of info on this forum, you just need to read it.

At the moment I've got a Patriot. Using a microcoil build. (I think) my buddy walked me through hands on training.

I need to learn how to navigate the forums better too lol. It's not as easy using the forum runner app.

I have started reading about ohms law. For the most last I think I have a grasp on what it is.

It's almost like a leak in a dam. The higher up on the dam it is (higher ohms) the water coming through doesn't put a lot of pressure or enough pressure for the dam to burst. But say the leak is lower down where the water is just rushing trough and so much water is pushing against it that it bursts.

I have to make sure the batteries I use can support super low ohms. If I decided to go super sub ohms.

....ty analogy but I think its close lol.

It's not just the ohms, it's the resistance in correlation with the supplied voltage, what matters with batteries is their amp rating (and not passing or reaching it)

Yeah. I'm aware of that part. Didn't know how to analogy it lol. A buddy explained it too me in laymans terms.

Higher amperage can handle lower ohms correct?

1. Difference between the Kanthal and other wires? There are tons of different wires out now. Most are just a hype (generally, different variants of Kanthal, such as 1 wrap of Kanthal wrapped over another). The two you should focus on are Kanthal Round, and Kanthal Flat. Round is self explanatory, it's just your run of the mill kanthal (looks like electrical wire). Flat wire is kanthal that had been flattened into a ribbon. Start with round, and move to flat if you want to try something different (flat is great for sub-ohm vaping, since you want a smooth, not-hot vape, stick with round wire)
2. Explanation between ohms and watts etc. I won't go into the physics-related/electrical engineering details. In respect to vaping: Ohms = Resistance (the HIGHER the ohms, the less vapor you get. Think of it this way, high ohms --> high resistance to heat --> slower heating speed --> less vapor). Watts = Power output via device. Higher Watts --> Higher Voltage --> More vapor. Volts = Power drawn from battery, and battery strength. Refer to "Watts" for similar explanation.
3. Explanation of the different type of coils and benefits of each. Thoughts on them? ( Tiger coil, Minicoil, Macro coils. Too many lol) Thanks in advance. In a nut shell, different coils release heat differently. This is also based on how they are wicked. Coils built to the same resistance (ohms) will release the same amount of heat. For now, stick with either a standard Macro or Micro coil

Sorry for the stupid questions. :( No such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people who can't answer legitimate questions.

Thank you. This is the best answer I've gotten so far.

I was lent a few feet of 24 Gauge Kanthal Last night, just to practice my wrapping lol. Needless to say I need practice. In the mean time my buddy helped me twist up some Kanthal and build a twisted coil not the mini where it's difficult to re wick but not the 1/8th bit either. Anyways long story short it's at a .3 or a .2 I am loving it.
