So I'm vaping away with my brand new 808 and some of their juice, and after a little bit, I realize I'm feeling a sort of light burning/stinging sensation on my lips. It goes away about ten minutes after I put down the PV. If I use a little lip balm when I pick it back up, it's not so bad.

Now, I fully admit that I'm a lip-licker - it comes with the territory when you smoke cloves. I'm wondering if it's something that goes with the PG territory and if I just need to train myself out of that little quirk. (I guess I'm mostly concerned because I just got over a random attack of hives, lol!)

Thanks!

Hi Shadzi! Yep, it's the nicotine. As Godzilla pointed out, once you get a little more practice with your technique (long, slow drags) you won't often get juice on your lips. It's not an uncommon symptom for noobs. It can in fact cause sores on the lips to develop sometimes. This is only a temporary thing though.

Make sure when filling a carto (or cart) that you wipe off any nicotine from the mouthpiece. Don't overfill as you'll end up getting excess juice in your mouth or on your lip. Practice, practice, practice... and lots of water.

Thanks for the reassurance! :) I'm not getting any juice draw - I made sure not to overfill my cartos for that reason (18 drops in my 808s) since I'm, honestly, a wuss. :D I never noticed it with my analogs but I'd get a lot of it with kreteks back when I used to smoke those, and didn't want to simply assume that it was the same thing. I admit I miss the eugenol numb. :(

I had the same problem for the first two weeks or so. Like smoking regular cigarettes there is a learning curve. I remember those days I used to puff a cigarette and not inhale and I thought I was actually smoking. We had to learn how to smoke. We have to learn how to vape. I've been vaping for 4 weeks now and everyday I'm learning something new.

Early on when I was getting juice on my lips, I popped off the end of the cartridge and there would be a little puddle of liquid in there. It all stopped once I stopped sucking so hard. (I also got an ego, and this problem is now history. Its a much smoother slower draw.

I had the same problem when I first started, juice leakage or no. Keep in mind that the juice itself is a humectant. It absorbs moisture which is how it produces vapor. Some of that moisture comes from you, which is why it can cause dry mouth, lips, etc. Make sure you drink more fluids and purchase a really good lip balm, preferably without menthol, camphor or phenol in it since they're technically just a ploy to get you to use more lip balm. :p

Oh, jebus. I know exactly what you're getting at with that one. I've had a lifelong love affair with the Bonne Bell Lip Smackers, but my mom was all about the Carmex. She complained one day, when she couldn't find hers, how horrible it was unless she was using it.

So I look at her. "Mom, they put camphor and salicylic acid in there. Do you know what salicylic acid is? It's a drying acne medication. It's used for skin peels. They make aspirin out of it. Quit using it, now." Fortunately she listened - we went straight out, got her some Burt's Bees, and she has never looked back.

Using a lip balm with salicylic acid, camphor, menthol... dumb.

I had a friend in high school who thought he was all that because he was starting to smoke. I'd already been on the stench sticks for about three years at that point, so I could tell immediately he was only puffing, not inhaling. Determined that I would make a point by any means necessary, I waited until he was inhaling - and then I hit him really hard on the back, forcing him to inhale. Poor boy almost turned purple from the coughing and choking - but he got it! He never picked up a cigarette again. :)
