Noob Tank Question

I have an Ego-c and a VV USB passthrough...both 510 threaded I think and both are compatible with all my other gear.

I recently bought 3 of the KWX6 Electronic Cigarette Round Mouth Atomizer (2.2mL)

So at first I think I made the dumb mistake of putting the the "round thing" (not sure what it's purpose is but it's in picture on far left) with the bigger diameter down and the smaller diameter at the top. Well I couldn't suck any air through it. I changed voltage on my VV from 2.7 up to 5.0 at various intervals still no luck.

Took the thing apart and it was leaking everywhere. I then looked at image again and it appears that there are two air/breathing slots on the bigger diameter end. So I reversed that "round thing". Again did VV from 2.7 up to 5.00 at various intervals and still no luck...no vapor at all and leaking again when I took it apart.

Is this thing compatible with ego-c and VV USB passthrough (again 510 threaded). Some of the reviews mention evods but I'm not even sure what those are. Did I waste my money or am I just not putting it together right?

I think the "round thing" I'm referring to is the battery adapter ring...I've never used that before but have only bought a few tanks since vaping. So I think it goes with bigger diameter up which has the 2 air vents/holes at the top but still not getting any vaping and lots of leaking. Please advise.
