I got my 510 model ecig today. It was a starter kit from e-cigarette-usa, it came with 2 batteries, five cartomizers(?) a 120 VAC charger and a bottle of juice.

I've lurked here a bit and I don't think I'm a total idiot but I just want to make sure I get it.

I'm supposed to put the juice in the cartridge/atomizer, screw on the battery and puff, puff, right?

I got about 20 drops in the "cartomizer", does that sound full?

It seems to be working but I wish I was getting a little stronger hit.

20 drops is not usually full. it is important for the filler to be completely saturated on the first fill.

How to fill a Carto

First, Take the silicone condom off the end of the carto with the white top. Leave the condom on the threaded end. Then take off the white top of the carto. If you have a syringe,(18ga.) load it with 1ml of liquid, 1.5 for DCs’, and slide the needle down the side of the carto and fill from the bottom . A few more drops from the bottle until the top of the filling starts to look “slushy”. If you don’t have a syringe, just slowly drop drop drop about 20-40 drops. (drop sizes vary, 1.0 ml is the target) Let the drops go down the side of the carto, constantly turning it, not into the hole in the middle. Every 10 drops or so it may help the flick the carto like you would a thermometer to force the liquid to the bottom of the carto. Continue until the top of the filling is “slushy” and the juice stops absorbing into the filler. If you have a drip tip, throw away the white end cap thingy and use the drip tip, otherwise pop the white thingy back in place to vape and then get online and order some pretty drip tips.
I know it may seem complicated, but it really is not

One more thing. Don't vape too long without topping off the carto or you will burn it. You'll get a feel for when you need to top off, (too warm, dry or reduced flavor) but until you do, do it often. If the filler is white, top off. If it takes more than 10 drops to get that slushy look on the filler, you may have waited too long.

Now it is possible (highly likely) that many will disagree with me but....................I've taken a cart and a carto to the "burnt" place...no, I didn't throw it away. I simply filled it, making certain the filler was wet throughout, vaped a bit and the flavor came back WITHOUT the burnt taste. Initially, yes, you will taste the "burnt" but it will go away providing you didn't keep vaping in a dry state too long.

Prime example yesterday. Was vaping along, then wham...ick..burnt. No problem..filled up the carto....pushed the buttons a few times (short intervals) then vaped...1st 7-8 passes had a hint of burnt but nothing horrible...after that..been vaping like a king all day today.

Do you really have cartomizers? Cartomizers aka cartos hold juice AND screw right onto the battery. They are literally a 1-piece combined enclosed cartridge with its own internal atomizer coil. thus cart-omizer

What is used with a separate atomizer is a cartridge aka cart. Battery + atomizer + cartridge

A cartomizer must be filled to capacity so a 1ml carto should fit 20-28 drops depending on what size drops your ottle makes. Then it needs to be cleaned up and settled (I lay on different sides and ends for 15-20 min w/ thin juices like 80PG/20VG). Then you can vape and keep it damp so it doesn't singe.

A cartridge is filled until it looks damp on top but not a puddle.

Yes, it's the one piece deal. I'm thinking of trying the atomizer/cartridge setup just to see what I'm missing.

I'm pretty happy with the cartomizers though, once I figured out how much to fill them and how to poke them through with a #1 paperclip. I'm still on the same 5 (4, I lost one) I started with.

Welcome, iknitsteel!
This is a great group, very knowledable & helpful. My knowledge is limited, I still ask questions.
Without this group, & actually my primary vendor, I don't know that it would have been possible.
My quit date was 12/6/10, & yes, I've fallen off the wagon on the rare occasion. But you have to count every stinky you don't have as a victory.
I have to ask, do you make jewelry, how do you knit steel? I'm a lifelong knitter, haven't had the occasion to use steel as yet.
I went through an exhaustive amount of research prior to ordering my 1st kit. The good news is, quit without a problem, the day I recieved my starter kit, @ 2pm, when the mail came.
I've only used an ego, with a drip tip, thus far. I did try the mega, the tank & ego-c. Always went back to the drip tip. I'm a vaper hog, & I like my little cloud of vapor. The drip tip gives you a big hole to draw through, whereas, the mega, tank & c, you are drawing through a pinhole. So, it depends on your preferences.
I am just now, going to step up to something more expensive, but the ego gives you lots of veratility, is reasonably cheap, you should be able to start out for under $80, all inclusive.
I know it seems mind blowing in the beginning, but you'll find your sweet spot, & a whole new life.
I recently redecorated my entire living room with the money I've saved from not buying analogs.
There are lots of videos here & on u tube.
