Nostalgic Wednesday 12/5/12 *ROLLER RINKS*

Each Weds I will post an old show, toy, product, song, or etc for us to be nostalgic about.

Today I am nostalgic about roller rinks. Sure, they are still around. But it's not quite the same when you are an adult lol. I am nostalgic about using the roller rink as a young and older teen. I took my son a couple times a year or 2 ago, he wasn't really into it, and I rented the old 4 wheel skates and gave it a try and not quite the same for me either. The place was mostly populated with teens.

I remember the fun I used to have going as a teen!! They had a DJ that would take requests for songs and sometimes they even played your requests lol. I would go with a group of friends and we would flirt with boys we knew and didn't know. I loved to skate too. I never got the hang of roller blades though, always used 4 wheel skates and enjoyed it. It was one of those places I didn't mind getting sweaty. I would use the bathroom a lot though to pat the sweat off, reapply more powder and brush my hair. I was a teen girl after all lol.

Couples dance was exciting as they played a slow song like Wonderwall and you got to skate and hold hands with a boy and chat as you went around the rink again and again. I remember practicing my backward skating in the middle and some cute boys stopping to help me learn how to backward skate. It was a great place to meet boys

What are your fav memories of going to the roller rink?

I remember going a few times as a teen. I wasn't very good at it but I could skate around the rink and not fall. One thing I couldn't do was use the toe stop. I finally started skating to the "half" wall and reaching out for it when I wanted to get off the rink. Worked for me! lol

I could do the toe stop, but sometimes it was easier to just go into a wall lol. There was another kind of stop too you kinda put your legs together more and I think put your toes somewhat inward or something like that, I wasn't really good at that kind, but I could def use the toe stop

I was pretty good, in terms of speed I could go pretty fast, in terms of tricks, not so much lol
