Not feeling better yet..a little disappointed

Started vaping on 5/9/10. Off analogs completely on 5/17. It is my 1 month anniversary. I have smoked for 50+ years. Over the past 5yrs managed to cut down from 2+ pks a day to about 1/2 pk.

However, I was hoping that I would have signs of detox by now. I've had nothing..no coughing or getting rid of junk in lungs. I had shortness of breath on mild exertion (part of the reason for quitting analogs). I still feel the same! No change so far in that. Maybe I have damaged my lungs so they won't clear. Has anyone else taken more than a month to feel the effects??? Maybe, I'm just impatient but after reading about how much better everyone else feels..I guess I just got disappointed and down.

Not making an excuse to go back to analogs..will hopefully stay off for good. Finally found good equipment (510 manual). Nic level is down to about 8mg.

BTW Thanks to all of you for this forum. It really helped me make it this far. I had NEVER been without a cigarette for over 12 hours in the past 50 years.

Honestly, after 23 years of pack a day smoking, I'm now just over 7 weeks smoke free with vaping.
But I don't actually "Feel" much better. But I do know that I'm not coughing anymore.
Before I started vaping, I did the usual coughing spree in the morning, and in the middle of the night. But not anymore.

It wasn't till about 6 weeks in that I started seeing the "Lung Butter" come up. Mostly in the morning, and It's still coming..

Plus, technically you're still smoking, so that will slow down the process too.
But don't feel bad about that, not everyone can switch to vaping instantly.
Especially not someone that smoked 2packs a day for 50+ years.

You're doing great!!!!

Just be patient, and focus on how many cigarettes you have NOT smoked over the last month, that should make you fell great.

Basically it all comes down to the damage done in those 50 years.
I was diagnosed with COPD and, even though I no longer am bothered by bronchitis, I still feel a tightness in the chest now and then. After a year, that's probably good as it's going to get for me, but I hope for more. And I might improve more because I never expected to fully rebound in a year from what I did for 40.
Just keep vaping and even if it's just minor changes that is good---at least by staying off tobacco, smoking isn't doing further damage.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. Maybe I'll notice results soon on the "lung" thing.

My post might have been confusing but I'm NOT still smoking. Quit completely on 5/17/10.

My bad, I just saw the "cut down from 2 packs to 1/2 pack a day" part....

Even still, every human body is different and reacts differently than others.

And as above, 50+ years is a lot, so maybe it will just take a little longer...But it will come. Be patient.

Dianed...congratulations!
I am really new at this too (May 25th) and I was also a little dissapointed that I hadn't felt any of the real changes that others have mentioned. The replies to your posts however have made me feel better and it's encourageing that I'm not the only one.
Thanks for your post!
Oh, I can now smell more....sometimes a good thing...sometimes a bad thing...;-)

Congrats for quitting after 50 years! Thats wonderful! And of course, congrats to everyone who've quit - it's such a great feeling to finally be free from those horrible cancer sticks, doesnt it?!

I've read that it takes between 1 month and 9 months for the cilia to grow back and start cleaning the lungs out again.

I only smoked for 13 years, and after a month I definitely feel better, but still feel like I have good days and bad days. We've done years of damage to our bodies, so I'm expecting it to take a little time for nature to reset things :)

50 years..is a long time for anything lol Well done though seriously thats an awesome achievement to quit after so long.
As for 'not feeling better yet' - well you might be one of those people who are blessed with the low side effects of smoking. My great aunt smoked for her entire life, (from around age 10 or 11 I think) and died at age 99 from natural wear n tear of the heart. She had a slight cough but other than that she was fine.
When I finally quit really the only thing I Lost was my cough. I haven't had the lung thing either an thats after being cig-free since january. Does that mean my lungs were free of stuf to start with or its so buried that it will never emerge? I have no idea, but generally I started feeling better in myself around month 2 onwards. I also have thyroid issues though so that negates a lot of benefits I think Id feel if I didnt have that. I think any 'other' medical issues you might have will mask any benefits from quitting but they ARE there even if you can't FEEL them.

Congratulations to all of us. "Feeling better" kind of sneaks up on you. You'll just start to notice little things. For me the nicest was trying to see how much I could fill my lungs up with air. I have always been a "shallow breather". Now I feel like I can take a much deeper breath and have been "practicing" to kind of re-train my lungs.

The practicing is a good thing. I don't know if you know it but almost ALL adults do not breath right. In fact the only humans that breath correctly is babies. We become lazy so a few times a day, everyone should take a couple deep breaths.

28 year smoker, pack to pack n a half a day.
Disagree with bert.
I guess everyone is different, body, mind etc...

I have only been vaping for 2 weeks. 1st week i cheated with 4 real cigs a day, nothing since. I work outdoors, walking and working consistantly for 6-10 hours a day. i'm 45 and in pretty good shape because of the work i do daily for last 20 odd years.

My response so far. I have woke up coughing for last 3 days. my breathing has already improved while working, i have already started to get smell back, and hate to actually say this but since it was mentioned about detox. i have not yet started coughing up the black phlem that is supposed to happen but i did have what i think was a partial detox from the other side (trying to keep it polite. lol)

A step further, yesterday my batts died and now i ordered a car charger and 3 more batts, i had a real cig, i tasted like crap, (good TH tho. lol) and as soon as i went back to work i could tell a difference in my breathing for about 5 min as opposed to vaping.

Whether in my mind or reality. this is what i have honestly occur. even my wife commented (other than not stinking anymore cause she doesnt smoke, but she mentioned that she cant remember the last timei didn't cough several times in a day.

I do agree that i would not believe things happening so quickly but it really has for me. and if it hasn't for you then i can only say we are all different, some may have quick noticable changes, some may take some time, and who knows, some may not ever notice the changes (unless they go back to real cigs).
My 2 cents and hopefully eveyone will feel changes but even if not, the future is much much much better on E-Cigs vs Real Cigs. Period.

Congrats on the 50 year quit. that alone is the ultimate change and ACCOMPLISHMENT

Keep Vaping

John
