Hello Everyone- I have been vaping for about 2 years now but I am ashamed to say I know NOTHING about it. I have a friend who runs a big chain of stores here and he hooked me up with a good setup 2 years ago and taught me how to fill it and change the 'middle thing' (seriously I apologize, I don't really know what I am talking about).

So my setup is a provari 2.5 with an aspire nautilus mini tank.

I have a couple problems- with the new tank (I had something else before- looked similar, but it was a DCT something I think) I don't know how high I can turn up the voltage (?) and not burn out the coil (?) so often. I watched some videos and someone was talking about them lasting 2 weeks at a much higher setting. What am I doing wrong??

My other problem is the batteries I have. They are red 18650 but don't know the brand anymore- it rubbed off. But has anyone else had them cause a fire? I didn't have them in my battery case and they were in the bottom of my purse and started a FIRE! I know this all seems like common sense NOW, but at the time, they just got thrown in the bottom of my purse. Anyway- 2 of them got lost in the fire, now one just stopped working so I am down to 1 again and need to buy a few more. I did have those all for 2 years so I am not surprised, but pretty freaked out about the fire... while driving..

Also, I get my liquid/juice from Vermillion River E-juice- my friend used to sell the Kentucky Amaretto flavor but one day they up and stopped selling it so I was able to search and find it online. I was reading around and feel dumb for not thinking about the quality of the juice... Can anyone comment on that?

Lastly- when I take a big hit, it now burns the back of my throat- I think that is because the nicotine is too high? Maybe the new tank? I am not sure but I don't like it.

Hello and welcome. First off, don't ever just throw batteries in your purse, they contain a lot of energy. When keys or other metal objects connect the postive and negative ends of the battery it's a short and only bad things will happen, like you've had happen. Get a battery case, or some method of keeping your batteries from touching anything else.

As far as how high you can turn up the voltage, that's pretty much personal preference, dial it in to your taste. If your coils are dirty(gunked up), they will taste burnt. You can't really judge how long this takes to happen by someone else's experience, the liquid you're using, and how much you've used, has a lot to do with how quickly the coils get dirty.
Generally dark liquids will dirty up coils quicker.

No,all batteries are not created equal. For general vaping, AW IMR batteries are a good choice. AW IMR 18650 2200 mAh
Your battery choice really depends on how much power you're using, which is determined by the voltage and ohms of the coil. Some people use very low ohm coils and the AW's I linked to wouldn't be sufficient, they have a 20 amp rating. Do you know the resistance rating of the coils you're using? (Ohms)

Ok I am going to try to answer these questions. Before when I was using the DCT tank I would get the 2.5 ohm and 2 holes. When I purchased the nautilus mini I was told the coils only come in 1.8ohm. I vape at around 3.5v-4v.

I would like to go higher but if I do it tastes all burnt. This tank is much better than the previous but I would like to go higher for more vapor but not sure how that works either.

I think most people use an AW IMR battery with their Provari. Here is one that would work great with your mod from RTD Vapor. They only sell authentic batteries and are an authorized supplier for these batteries.

AW IMR 2200mah 20A <= Link

Ok good, these are the batteries I was using previously. Thanks for the link, I am always looking for a good online supplier.

Are you using the BVC's (bottom vertical coils) for Nautilus? I can run these at higher voltages than I could the BDC's.

That I am not sure? How do you tell? I got blister packs that say Nautilus Mini on the package from the place I purchased the tank. My friend owns this chain of stores and personally helped me get this stuff so I don't think he would mislead me but its totally possible.

Jenna,

I vape about 4ml a day with an 18650 (18mm wide 65mm long and the "o" is because it's a round battery)
If you don't need to change the battery during the day, don't carry the extras! just start the day with a freshly charged one
I can go all day ( well 6 to 6 anyway ) with 1 battery
If I'm not mistaken your ProVari is a variable voltage device and chances are your tank will have a coil that's in the neighborhood of 2ohms
Try vaping at 4.2 - 4.5 volts with a new coil to get rid of that "burnt" taste
and it might be time to lower your nic level which should give you less throat hit (less burn in the back of your throat)
Hope this helps!

If you are using BDC coils next time buy BVC's (Bottom Verticle Coil) much better in taste and performance. Review your Provari Owners Manual (Provape.com), review your Nautilus Owners manual. Read everything on this forum whether it pertains to you or not. Become knowledgeable about your equipment to keep from hurting yourself. You should have seen how fast I shucked my jeans when I had batteries in my pocket with change. Hot stuff!

The package the coils come in will be clearly marked on the front with an orange circle and the letter BVC in it, I don't know how the packaging in the older BDC coils is marked but I would assume it's similar.

I can't really comment on the tanks you've used , as I've had no experience with them. I will say that it sounds like you're not getting enough liquid to the coil. I don't know if that's a limitation of the tank you're using or something else. Certainly, if you are using a high VG(vegetable glycerin) liquid, as compared to PG(Propylene Glycol), the wicking effect to the coil would be diminished because VG is thicker. You could try a liquid with a high PG content to see if it improves performance. This would likely have the effect of less vapor though, VG produces greater amounts of vapor than PG does. Hopefully those with experience with the tank you're using can give some more specific help.

Yes I think I need to lover the level. Darn. I just bought 2 bottles of this stuff.

I can go all day with one battery, but I run a business so its hard for me to KNOW I will be home in 12 hours. Sometimes emergencies happen and I am stuck at the office and I need to have backup with me. But I have learned my lesson! You should have seen the guy at McDonalds Drive through- "Umm, Ma'am, I think your purse is on fire?!"

Alright, HAHA yes, it is clearly marked with BVC on the box.

Heh, what?

I'd say if anything keep the voltage lower if you're noticing any sort of burnt taste. Once you burn a coil head, it's done forever, there's no getting that burnt taste out of it. As Susan said, if you can, try and switch to the BVC coils. They can definitely be vaped at higher wattages/voltages.

The further question though, you said you wanted to vape at higher wattages/voltages. Why? Are you not satisfied with the vape you currently have? Would you like more throat hit, more vapor production, more flavor? After a certain point, the Aspire heads will just burn. They can only be taken to a certain voltage before they reach that point (I find it to be about 12W on a 1.6 ohm coil).

ETA:

Oh, you're using the BVC's! Eh, I don't know what to tell you then, if you're burning your heads you're probably already at the maximum voltage.

The throat hit is too much- I have figured out I need lower nicotine, it burns the crap out of my throat now. But I would like more flavor and more vapor production. Am I asking too much? If I could just get more vapor I would be happy. I am ok with 3.5-4v I think If I could get more vapor.

buy another 2 bottles at lower nic level and mix them with the high nic to get a "medium"
30ml @ 18nic & 30ml @ 6nic mixed will give you 60ml @ 12nic
no waste! ;o)

imho you can get a burnt taste from too much power (volts/watts) burning your wick material and juice or built up gunk from sweet or heavy VG juices not being vaporized and just continuing to be heated on the coil (not enough power) which will lessen your vapor production
You'll have to do some testing with a new coil to find the sweet spot for your set-up

i've made that mistake with the batteries before now i know how to prevent it from happening again, but now as a general rule the battery is away from things unless it is in my mod and i'm vaping on it
