Not so new here -- trouble with refilling cartos

Hey all--

I posted here last year after buying a knock-off Chinese 510 kit. I got good advice on various other e-cig brands to try, but over a short period of time I felt frustrated witht he kit I had and stopped using it -- until January of this year.

OK, I saw the Blu commercial on TV and decided to try again, since these were available in my small hometown. At first I was pretty impressed, but within a month one of the batteries was shot and I got NO response from Blu about it. But I found that my old batteries worked just fine with the Blu cartridges and I soldiered on.

I finally bought two Joyetech batteries which have been doing fine with Blu cartridges, and at 3 bucks per cartridge still a bit cheaper than cigarettes.

But I want to refill my own cartridges and I ordered 5 Joye 510 cartos. The problem I'm having is this: I use the drip method, and I initially put in 10 drops, wait a few minutes and put in ten more, then wait ten minutes and voila, I have a hefty hit of vape and a good throat hit. This will last for about 3-6 "smoking" sessions. The problem is when i go to refill the cartos-- upon the second refilling I just have a juicy mess on my hands... should I be using far fewer drops after the initial fill?

I'm open to suggestions about where to go from here, best brands and longest lasting batteries, anyone?

It sounds to me like you still had plenty of juice to finish vaping when you were trying to top it off. At least that is how it sounds.

One way to be a bit neater might be to try the condom method fill. Then vape the cartomizer until you notice a SLIGHT shift in flavor...not burnt!...but a slightly metallic hint or "off" taste. Then refill. The average cartomizer holds around 1ml. of juice (more or less). Much depends on how fast and hard you vape.

Yes, the initial slow filling first time process saturates the "stuffing" and makes sure the cart is ready.

I usually leave the rubber gasket (condom) on the bottom where the threads are and fill it up. Wait 10 minutes and fill it again, eventually it won't take any more.

Subsequent fillings during vaping are usually a few drops (3-4) at a time. Sometimes more...

Hearing from you guys, it definitely seems like i'm overfilling on the second and subsequent refills. I'll cut back to just a few drops and see how that goes. I can't wait to get home from work today and watch the videos you guys posted...

One other question...when/how do you guys determine you're just not getting enough and it's time to refill (or swap cartridges)? I am guessing it's highly subjective. I give up when the throat hit is completely gone and I'm definitely not getting the satisfaction I was when the cartridge was refilled or new). So the secondary (and more important question) is about how often a day would I be refilling cartridges --given that I'm a pretty heavy smoker (about a pack a day when I quit)...

When you don't get enough vapor on the inhale. :p
The top of the carto should look like a slushee/icee when properly filled/saturated.
