When I bought my first PV I decided on a mod/ Megalodon. After reading zillions of posts and Youtubing till my eyes were ready to pop I decided to go straight to a Mod.
Reasons I chose a Mod:
many complained of short batt life with starter kits
liked the idea that it was mechanical
reasonably priced
Don can be shortened to a smaller model if wanting to stealth vape
Although not a popular Mod when I stated my intentions sure enuff Don users came out of the woodwork promising satisfaction. Along the way I also read zillions of posts here from the Vets and researched heavily and their knowledge, patience and honesty was much appreciated. Of course everyone's gonna have their fave supplier but it was up to me to find the right deal re: juice and accessories. No pump but the Don has met all my expectations and then some.
Happy vaping.

interesting, can you please elaborate on this juicebox you mentioned? forgive my ignorance, despite hours of research i remain confused heh.

Just search for MonkeyBoxx, Phidias, Hogg. You can also browse the suppliers forum section as there's quite a few nice mods out there.

If one gets the longer lasting batteries, an 808 can be a good PV to go with that still has a light, slim feel. If only have lunchtime and a couple of breaks at work, a good 808 will last through (or an evening out).

A rough guide to e-cig/battery capacities and typical-usage life between charges.

--- ~ 1cm diameter (slim) ---
Blu 90 mAh < 1hour
basic 510 / Mini / 4081 180 mAh < 2 hours
510** / 901 280 mAh 3 hours (Volt, 510XL)
Newer 808 380 mAh+ 4-5 hours

--- ~ 2cm diameter ---
10440 (AAA) 600 mAh 7 hours
14500 (AA) 900 mAh 11 hours (Ego-T, Riva) *

--- >2cm diameter ---
18650 upto 2500 mAh 24 hourrs (Provari)

* These models use proprietary batteries, but of a similar capacity.
** The small/original 510 (510/360 is also just a connector type, like 808/901).

Light use vapers could see much longer usage times between charges.

++++++++++++++++++++

Let's look in a bit more detail at the 14500 (AA sized) lithium battery (900 mAh version) :

1 x 14500 = 5 mini batteries.

3.7 average volts into a ~3 ohm atty/carto draws about 1.25 amps.
The battery would be able to provide this current for about 45 minutes; that's 500 five-second vapes; or 1,000 2.5-second puffs.

For a mini battery (such as basic 510) it would be 100 - 200 puffs.

IMO most all of the commercial ecigs are but toys. Once you move to a real mod, you'll never use any of these devices ever again. I go all day and night long with a single 18650 2900 mAh battery and a 6 mL juice reservoir. All of you newbies should just go right into one of these mods and avoid wasting your money on regular, commercial ecigs. When I started I made the mistake of buying all those 510, Blu, eGo, etc. kits....cost me over $200 for all the junk. A good juice box, wood mod costs around $110, a couple quality AW 18650 batteries $35, charger $20, 5 atomizers $30. Put some juice in, start vaping and you'll never look back.
