I've been using my 510 for about two days now and I can get it to hit just fine, but the taste is pretty bad and the "throat hit" I get is unpleasant--it feels like I'm inhaling chemicals rather than vapor with nicotine and flavoring.

Could it be that the stock cartridges I received just had some crappy tasting juice in there, or is this relatively normal?

the 'stock' carts are good for a few puffs ... that's it. Maybe 5, maybe 10 depending on how long you 'draw'.
You need juice mr. spudboy... you need juice.
the ads that claim a cart is a pack of cigs.... NO WAY in .... log heck.
A few drops of nic (or no/lo nic liquid) to 'wet' the cart .... otherwise you're right.... that 'ain't vape you're tastin'

Hey, what part of WA - if you don't have juice maybe someone close by could teach you and share some.
Either that or you're going to need a lot of carts. Once you have liquid you can 'top off' - refill - clean and keep on keeping on for a long time with the same cart.

I'm just off I-5 north of Seattle.

Hey, I live in Seattle.
I actually have been using one of the fresh cartridges provided in the starter pack. Okay, so I will get some e-juice. Could you recommend a website that has a good selection?

Also, do you know why some of my cartridges have the fiber glass stuff inside, while the others (the two that were attached to the actual e-cig when I first opened the box) had nothing?

Thanks for your help.

It's the shipping/primer fluid that is put on the atomizers to keep them from drying out. You can either vape it out - not inhaling or put the atomizer in some clear liquor - 151 vodka or everclear is best, imo, for a half hour and then blow out the atomizer both ends dry on a paper towel. drip 2 or 3 drops of juice onto the atomizer bridge and restart. That should get rid of most of the nasty taste which will eventually go away even if you don't do that.

The other nasty taste you can get but not nearly as nasty as some primer fluids is when you run dry and are just vaping air. Refill before you get to that point.

Ahh, so that's what primer tastes like!
Q: Which is better, to drop some e-juice on the fiberglass in the cartridges, or onto the atty itself?

Well if you're not going to do the vodka, then put a few drops on the atomizer and also in the filler (not fiberglass) in the cartridge. Just puff don't inhale until the primer taste goes away.

There are several suppliers for juice
Some people suggest trying small samples...
a tobacco flavor and at least one other flavor that's not tobacco.
Depending on how much you smoked and how often
a low - med- or higher nic content
first purchase it's great to get a variety - but still depends on your smoking pattern.

mist-stix is great for decent juice great price - $9 for 30/ml (average use for a 1-2 pack a day smoker can be 1.5-3 ml)
they have a coupon that you'll have to use.

Check the supporting suppliers links...
Rob at Good Prophets is great but I think he's still switching payment systems and taking checks/so it's a longer process.

Seattle's a big city - there are vaper's all over - if you 'edit' your post - hit go advanced - I think you can change you headline to add- need juice Seattle
that might help in finding someone with a bit of juice in your area... as in a sample not a supplier

or even start a new thread - Need Juice - Seattle/specific area - Help!;-)

Many raves for Drew at Nhaler - shipping is a bit $$$ but most say worth it.
Again- there are many places to buy from... online and you'll get the priviledge of watching for the mail delivery

PV kits just come with empty cartridge casings attached. Save them as they work great for dripping, should you want to drip. (When you drip you don't need the cartridge filler or the little reservoir cup that the filler is in.)

I was feeling the same way the first week I used my 510. I kept it up and hated those carts. I tried filler after filler, modding the cart, cursing the cart...then I discovered dripping directly on the atomizer, get that cart outta here! Well, I've been loving this thing ever since. I've seen it referred to as "tailpiping". No, I've never burned my lips, never even came close. I put about 2 generous drops (maybe 3) right on the arch and vape away. If it gurgles, I blow the excess out from the battery connection end and it starts "smoking". Feels like a cig, tastes like a PV (sooo much nicer than tobacco).

I have found the tobacco flavors to be not anything close to tobacco and more like the bottom of a week old trash can but I suppose that's all personal taste. Ugh.

I get my juice from ecigsmokestore. Dawn and George are just good people and Dawn can whip up flavors that make you say "mmmmmmm" everytime you vape. They are currently working on getting a credit card acct. set up since Paypal swooped down on them and cut them off. It's ok by me, they are worth a little extra trouble to get my juice. Wherever you get your juice, you will probably have to sample a few before you find your favorite. Try dripping--in my opinion, those old carts just stand between me and my nicotine. You will also want to experiment with strengths. Crank it up if you aren't feeling satisfied with the lower nic juice.

Good luck!

I have a question...I'm expecting my 510 any day now and I don't want to fall in the same situation of vaping primer...so how many puffs should I do before I actually inhale?

Have I understood this properly.....
You put the cart end onto the e-cig as normal but don't put the filler into the cart.
Then just drip onto the atomiser.
If I put eg 2 drops onto the atty, will it last say eg: half a normal anaologs worth of puffs?

I'm wondering the same thing...how many puffs can you get out of each dripping session?

Once you have taken 4-5 mouthfuls, the primer taste should go away. An even quicker way to get rid of the primer taste is to dtip 1-2 drops of e-liquid into the atomizer. Don't draw the puffs too quickly as the liquid needs time to wick out of the filler material into the atty, so the more you have vaped from a cart., the longer it takes to wick into the atty.

Your mom said not to say...
Whenever I top of a cart with fluid I also put a drop on the atomizer as well. If you do this for a while you should have a nice stable reliable atomizer with no funky taste either. The taste will go away as the others have said but it can be a real turnoff when you first try one if you didn't drip some on the atomizer. I do this with both my Dragon (M401 from Truesmoker.com) and my 501 and they both perform great with excellent taste and vapors.
