I just started vaping Tuesday afternoon. So far I've tried the Maxx Fusion menthol prefilled cartos, which taste terrible. I'm sure of this because I had my son try it and he agreed. So I bought some juices from FSUSA, which came yesterday. The strawberry was pretty bad, but that could have been a bad blank carto because it did taste a bit burnt. I didn't like the chocolate cherry. The vanilla was pretty "eh". The menthol was just ok.

I read on here how people think all these different juices (not necessarily the ones I've tried) taste so good. And now I'm wondering what does taste good mean? As in you can really truly taste these flavors? Because I really can't that much. Maybe very slightly, but not much. For me so far, everything has a slight strange taste, with the very slightest hint of what the flavor is supposed to be. And the throat hit in many of these is like a dry, slightly harsh feeling.

Is it me? Am I doing something wrong?

I really want to like this more than I do! Because, I have seriously cut down my smoking since I started vaping.

Help!

I know how you feel. I started with Virginia tobacco and it tasted pretty good, but I really didn't think it was my best solution to replace analog. So, you have to just keep trying until you locate the right taste for you. I've got about 10 bottles of juices that I would never touch again. They taste horrible to me! But one day I found THE one and my life has taken off like a rocket (quitting analogs). My great choice is Carmel Mocha Delite that I get from CigEasy. But, everyone is different so do your search. Good luck!

The first few days there is some throat irritation but that settles, just something you get used to like when you first inhaled an analog. I got juices I wasn't crazy about as well, then I ordered from Backwoods Brew,,omg what a difference!! Once I found some I liked I haven't touched an analog. The cappuccino is awesome, I vaped it non stop. Malty Toffee is very good too. Both of these are more of a coffee flavor, if you like flavors.
Also after having trouble with juices and reading more on here I found where others were saying to let your juices "steep". Some are mixed before shipping and are not steeped enough. After doing this, the juices got better.
There is information here about steeping but basically you do this:
Remove the cap and drip top
Leave the bottles open like that for 24 hours
Recap them and shake vigourously
Place them in a dark cabinet, drawer, etc for 24 hours
Remove the cap and drip top again for a minute or two and recap
Shake and place them back in dark spot for a week or longer
One thing you will notice is the color changes, but if you notice when you first uncap them there is almost a medicinal smell to them. After steeping that goes away and the aroma changes as well.
I now like some that I recieved that I thought I would end up throwing away.
Hope that helps, but try Backwoods Brew flavors, I love everything I got from them and Ive ordered from several.

Hi New, congrats on starting to vape.

A lot of juices that are flavored don't taste good to me either, I have found a couple I like and stay with them.
Buy samples when you can til you find your favorite.
It will save you money.
Check out several good vendors and try their juices as you can in the flavors you think you will like.
I have tried probably a hundred or more and found most of them unvapable to me.
There are some good ones but it takes some time, money and patience to find them.
I use some juice from avejuice.com called Havana Gold that I like a lot.
I also make my own using flavors DIY. I find the ones I make I like the best.
Good luck in your search. You will find the ones you like!

Juices are indeed very subjective, but if you like the taste of cinnamon - as in Big Red gum - Puresmoker.com has a juice called Fire and Ice that you will most definitely taste. It is far and away my favorite of all the juices I have tried. BWB has a juice called Blast that is supposed to be cinnamon, but it is very mild compared to PS's Fire and Ice. If you like cinnamon and want a juice you can really taste, give Fire and Ice a try...

I really don't care that much for cinnamon. And Kick Bass Vapor didn't have any flavors that sounded good to me either. I'm a menthol smoker. And if I could only find the right menthol flavor, (Strong menthol, no mintiness, like a Kool, doesn't need to taste like tobacco at all), I really wouldn't care about any other flavors.

Here's my general rule for juices. Buy 'em, try 'em, and vape the ones that taste good. The ones that don't make the cut get put away for at least a week, then try 'em again. Some have steeped enough to taste good and I'll vape 'em, the ones that don't will get put back to steep more before I try them again. Some juices take more than a month to taste right so just give them some time before you make a final decision on them. Some just never do taste good but you can keep them for emergency use or get rid of them.
Also, something to keep in mind is that when you first start vaping your taste buds are not working very good because of the years of smoking you've probably done. Your tastes will change a lot over the first few months so what tastes bad now might be good later down the road when your taste buds have recovered. So, hang on to those juices for a while and try them again, you might be surprised when you do.

There is one thing you might try...get a bottle of a good menthol juice, such as Silver Leaf Menthol from Puresmoker.com. By itself SLM is a great menthol juice, but you can also add it to other juices to get the menthol flavor. Puresmoker also has a juice called Minthia that is an intense menthol, and added to anything will give you that "Kool-like" hit. I do like cinnamon, so my favorite concoction consists of Fire and Ice with some SLM and Minthia added. It's just like smoking a Kool with a cinnamon flavor. If you don't like cinnamon, you could do the same thing with most any flavor...

like gangsta i smoked newports and djarum blacks, and i haven't found "the menthol" yet but purecig with menthol from fsusa is good, kretek and atomic cinnacide from tasty vapor are also good....everyone who smoked clove analogs should atleast try out kretek lol, boba's bounty from avejuice is good but an aquired taste, since ur new its most likely gonna suck, i had the same issues beginning, everyone was saying these juices were amazing i just couldnt understand wth they were talking about, to me they tasted so-so or perfumey....give the juices you already have some time to "steep" and look around the suppliers for other things u might like, you never kno til you try.

Samples, Samples, Samples...I started off buying sampler packs, and if I liked something I would buy bigger bottles. Unfortunately, my taste changed so much in the beginning that I would love a juice one day and find it unvapable the next.

One thing to consider, many ex-smokers that smoked menthols have found they like the non-menthol tobaccos and many that were non-menthol smokers like menthol flavors better. Don't rule anything out! I was a marlboro smoker and a Dunhill menthol clone got me through...for a while...then I didn't like it.

I also found at the very beginning that I couldn't taste many flavors others raved about...strawberry, grape, chocolate, banana and apple, to name a few. I still haven't found a premade chocolate I can vape, so I make my own.

Have patience, and buy small at the beginning, things change almost daily for the first month or more.

One little note...Vaperite.com has a menthol maker, you can choose the amount of menthol flavor to add to his self-extracted tobacco...give it a try for the most authentic tobacco taste I have had yet (because it's made from steeping tobacco)

For me so far, everything has a slight strange taste, with the very slightest hint of what the flavor is supposed to be.

OK, I am going to type a little bit of a novel here so hopefully this helps you somewhat.

Most juices appear to be made with flavoring mixtures that are either artificial flavors or a blend of artificial and natural flavors. As such, many of the resulting juices are going to taste pretty phony. Have you ever done any baking and used the flavoring extracts they sell in grocery stores? You add a drop or two of almond extract to some cake batter and it imparts a slight almondy taste to it, but it is also being diluted by the cake batter. However, put a drop of almond extract on your finger and taste it...bleah! One, its way too strong. Two, it doesn't taste much like an almond, does it?

Now, I have never made my own e-liquid but I have a feeling that a lot of these flavorings used to make juices are the same way. Except that the PG/VG blended liquid base used to make e-liquid has virtually no flavor of its own so it won't be able to dilute the flavoring much. Either they won't add very much flavoring and you'll end up with a lightly flavored e-liquid that doesn't taste too much like the real thing or they will add a lot and you will get a strong flavor that many people may find pretty gross (although many others will not).

Without naming names, there are some juice vendors out there (often ones that sell a huge array of flavors at very low prices) where most of their juices taste pretty much as I just described. Some people like them (and I envy them tremendously) and some people do not. You are probably one of them. I know I am. That isn't to say that some of the flavors they sell aren't pretty tasty anyway, but you will have to kiss a lot of their frogs to find the occasional princess.

It is possible to make some amazing juices with these flavorings, but it can take a tremendous amount of trial and error, blending different flavors together in different ratios. Real artistry can be involved. There are also vendors who appear to sell juices made mostly or entirely with flavorings they have either developed themselves or sourced from other places, often including much more natural ingredients. Heck, there is at least one that sells a whole line of juices made entirely with 100% natural and/or organic flavorings (Vaperite).

From my limited experiences buying juice samples so far, I would point you towards Backwoods Brew, the above-mentioned Vaperite and Kick Bass Vapor. There are undoubtedly others highly worth recommending out there which I just haven't tried yet (such as Tasty Vapor, some samples on the way). Make no mistake, these vendors have frogs too, but the frogs will at least be more interesting and original failures and only your palate can tell you what those frogs are. The frog to princess ratio will also probably be much more favorable.

Now, you mention that some of these flavors taste very faint. That is probably a combination of two factors. First and foremost, if you just quit or started cutting down on smoking recently, your taste buds (and as KeithB mentioned, your sense of smell) are probably pretty shot. Give them time. Second, a lot of these juices actually are pretty mildly flavored. Some vendors give you the option of adding extra flavor if you want. Also, some people can detect specific flavors more strongly than others. What tastes weak to you might taste strong to me, or vice versa.

Best of luck to you.
