Novice Rebuilding Question

Hello:

I am purchasing a kayfun Lite as my first rba. What type of silica and guage/type of coil should I use to get started?

You're in the same boat as me. I got some 32 & 30 ga wire and some silica from rtdvapes.

Silica is a lot easier to work with than ss mesh, for someone who is beginning to rebuild attys. It really depends on what kind of ohms you are looking for. 32 gauge wire will give you a higher resistance than 30 or 28. It is also thinner, and i think harder to work with. I prefer Kanthal over nichrome, but it's only because i never had any luck with nichrome. I didn't enjoy it as much. As far as the silica, a lot of people like the ecowool.

Try TEMCo Industrial Power Supply for the wire, it's under resistance wire.

i use 1mm silica folded 4-5 times and wrapped with 32g for right around 1.8. 1.9 ohms myself. so far never a dry hit or flooding, and taste perfect.

the KF has so many things going for it and is simple to rebuild. good choice.

Matters what it will be connected to.... If you are using a mechanical a double wrap of 3mm with a 4/5 wrap of 28g works very well.

I've had best results with 28g with about 8 wraps (vv/vw) on 3mm "short" wick (one strand just long enough to hang down without blocking the channels). I use a 1/16" drill through the wick to make my wraps.
