Just came back last night and noticed that e-cigs are listed on the electronic devices that are not allowed in flight. I thought it was ignorant of them, but it can cause a problem because of its appearance. Last time I flew nothing was printed but I still went in the lav. to vape and nobody knew anything. It is surprising to see how easily people will say no even when they don't know what they are talking about.

I cant say I am surprised. And to be honest, if I didn't know what an e-cig was there is no way I would let someone smoke one in a place if it was under my authority. Aside from it looking like and seeming like smoke, it would cause a lot of trouble from other customers complaining that someone was indeed smoking. if nothing else, this dialog would take up time not allowing me to do my supposed job.

Yep - I've worked with fog machines a lot - This stuff CAN set off the alarm if it gets to it - In a building it will dissipate before it reaches the ceiling - but in a little airplane bathroom the ceiling is right in your face - Just hold it in till there is nothing left -

I learned from George Carlin (I think it was him) how to get away with it with a regular cigarette - That sink sucks like a vacuum - I once smoked by putting a match under the stopper to hold it open and leaning over next too it - The suction took all the smoke away - LOL- It was a really long flight - it was either that or kill the guy sitting next to me ;)

Not surprised about the rule - I had finger-nail clippers taken away by the airlines once - They just go overboard on everything -

I'm not shocked or even upset. I see no problem with banning them from planes. But the ability to smoke everywhere (no pun intended) was never the reason I chose to start vaping. It was all about getting off regular cigarettes. I couldn't smoke on a plane before, I saw no reason why I should be able to do it now. I wouldn't ever take one out anyway because I don't feel like stiring the pot. People sometimes picture this picturesque scene:

    INT. RESTARAUNT - DAY

Man is waiting for his meal and takes out his electronic cigarette and begins to puff.

    Waitress aproaches him.

    WAITRESS
Sir, I'm sorry, but your not aloud to smoke in here.

The man has a phony, 1950's commercial voice.

    MAN
Why miss, this isn't a cigarette at all! Its the new
electronic cigarette! Much safer than the average
normal cigarette, now with microprocesor technology.
    (smile)

    WAITRESS
Electronic cigarette? Never heard of it! How does it
    work?

    MAN
Super complicated computers create a nicotine vapor.
You breath in nicotine, but only harmless water vapor
is exhaled. Plus there are no additives or
dangerous chemicals as in tradtional cigarettes.

    WAITRESS
    May I see it?

    MAN
Need to get your managers approval?

    WAITRESS
No. Its my break time, I want to try the new
    safe electronic cigarette for myself!

    They laugh.
    Freeze frame.

    RANDOM ANNOUNCER
The new electronic cigarette. Buy yours today!

    FIN

In reality this probably won't be how it goes. Private properties including restaraunts, regardless of what legislation comes out, will always be allowed to ban vaping in their businesses. Chances are you will get kicked out if you argue about it and there isn't anything you can do. Going outside to vape isn't so bad though. We don't get enough sun half the time anyway. On a plane most of us are used to waiting and craving.

Careful. I know of one case where an E-cig set off the smoke alarm in the lav on a plane.

No too much to worry about. The alarm was set off when Cash took a big 'ol mouthfull of vapor, and blew it directly into the smoke alarm. If you blow it towards the floor or into the sink drain, you'll be OK.
