Now I know why you're all talking about alternative wick material.

The silicon wick looks like a thread, but it acts like loosely put together dust. I got my ERA today, wound a nice microesque coil. Then I tried to feed some wick in... Not happening. Ended up making another coil about twice as wide. Got it around the right resistance, but I had to just wrap it around the wick. Feeding silicon wick through a micro coil is an impossible task.

Yep. If I ever use silica (I don't....but have wrapped a couple of coils for friends) I always just wrap the coil around it. Sometimes with cotton wicks, if the coil is not too, too micro, I thread it through with a "needle" made of twisted Kanthal. The easiest by far to thread through a micro coil is cotton from a cotton ball. Just make a point by rolling it between two fingers and thread it through. Even if I have to change it out every day or so (I don't...) it's very easy to replace without disturbing the coil.

I am using silica because I found cotton ball wick burning too easy (..maybe because I vape allways under 1 ohm? :) ) I am waiting for Hemp twine organic cord to give a try, will post results asap, also in feeding it on microcoils.

I was reading this thread about different cottons for wicks and there is some very good info there. There were several thoughts on why the cotton burns, too thick of a wick and can't saturate, not letting it sit wet and soak up juice long enough before using it, using cottons that aren't absorbent enough. I try to let my new cotton ball wicks saturate and soak up liquid for about an hour before using them.

There's a picture on that thread somewhere of cotton fibers under a microscope and it shows those tiny strands are actually hollow. Letting them soak in juice for an hour or so helps get that liquid inside. There is an explanation there, too about why cotton is a good choice and shouldn't burn if properly saturated.

I just thought this may be helpful if you hadn't seen it. I'm not sure how low the ohms are that folks are vaping though.
