Hello all,

First post, I have been reading quite a bit here in the last few weeks.

I started vaping recently, and I found it curious that I have developed a cough since then.

I read many of the posts here, and I have tried everything that was suggested. It appears that a minority of us really do develop a cough and either have to live with it or quit vaping. I know many come from smoking and that puts the admittedly minor coughing while on e-cigs in a different light. I know there is this ongoing discussion about flavors (diacetlyl and other flavor chemicals etc.), but that's not what makes me cough.

I haven't smoked in years, I am actually coming from the NRT route (last 10-12 years on gums/lozenges). I got tired of those, and wanted to try e-cigs. Love it by the way - but the cough got me concerned.

I have tried different vendors (V4L, MtBaker, VirginV, MustV), 12 different flavors (fruits, RY4, menthols, gourmet juices)/ I have tried pure VG, 80PG/20VG, 50/50. I have tried from 0 to 18mg nicotine and no flavor.
I do inhale though. I drink like a fish before, after and during. Tried water, milk, beer.

Kinda bummed, because it's more fun that these stupid nicotine gums. :)

I guess I don't have a question - I just wish PG/VG wasn't needed, but we could just get some nicotine mix it with water and some flavors. But I guess you wouldn't have great vapor any more. I noticed that some newcomers had posted about coughing problems before, and they will try the different suggestions, but eventually drop off (no more posts).

One thing to keep in mind is that most of the nicotine delivered by vaping is in the mouth and nose. It is not necessary to inhale the vapor into your lungs and the nicotine absorbed in the lungs is minor. So perhaps you could hold the vapor in your mouth for a few seconds and exhale through your nose? Maybe that will help you avoid the coughing.

I think most vapors inhale into the lungs to simulate the smoking experience but since you already weren't smoking maybe that won't be as important for you.

Good luck, I hope you find a method that works for you!

I feel for you with this issue the advice given is good sound advice. I hope you find a way to keep vaping. I used vaping to end my smoking and its been fantastic. Changing from smoke to vapor had me coughing at first so I found small drags helped. then progressively got to bigger drags as I got used to it. I hope you get it figured out

I just wanted to give an update.

I have done some more rigorous testing with VG/PG, different vendors and natural/artificial flavorings. I vaped a single juice all day from each type/vendor to see results. Turns out my coughing was probably related to some artificial flavorings used by many vendors. The two vendors that really work for me are Highbrow and VirginVapor. Cough is gone. :)

The PG wasn't to blame, because I used Highbrow's mix 70/30 (I believe).

Thanks again.
