Hello all :)

I re-wicked my KFL Clone when my first NT order arrived (15ml Frenilla, 15ml CLS, and 15ml CB). First of all, shame on me for not going with 50ml bottles but hey, it was my first try of NT...

First flavor I went with was the Frenilla and man, I like that juice! 15ml lasted me a week and the CB / CLS bottles have been patiently steeping since.

My question is; since I see many people are "mixing" flavors, should I re-wick the KFL between flavors or just switch on the fly? The current wick still works great and, while I don't mind tearing down my KFL, could I possibly find the "mix" of flavor enjoyable during the transition?

Also, If you were in my position; would you just switch to a single new flavor or should I go straight to a 50/50 blend of CLS/CB (Naki's Blend)...

I guess I do have a couple of the Aspire ET-S tanks available to play with to test the different flavors but my KFL Clone is my "All Day device" and I don't want to waste a drop of what little NT I have left (not that 15ml+15ml=30ml is little, but if the other 2 flavors are anything like Frenilla, their like owing Gold :)).

Anxiously awaiting the next batch of Frenilla.... :D

Well, let me explain it this way... I tried CB first, CLS second, then mixed them. I like to know how things taste without additions before mixing things. As far as rewicking your Kayfun, I don't tend to bother unless it needs it or the flavors are not likely to mesh well. I wouldn't go from, say, a fruit flavor to a snickerdoodle flavor, but going from Frenilla to CB or CLS I wouldn't take the time to. They're not so significantly different that it would probably taste good in the transition.

If the wick in the kfl' will last through another full tank, I would go with the Naki' mix to "double" the amount of juice you have. You can sample the CLS and CB in your other toppers.

My best advice: don't wait until the next batch of Frenilla. Get as much as you can so you can *try* to steep it. If you wait another couple of months for the next batch, you'll have to start the steep process all over.

It isn't necessary for you to re-wick between these three flavors if the wick and coil are good. All of them go well mixed together. But I would suggest trying out each flavor with a clean wick at some point to identify the subtle differences. Enjoy!

So I removed the ReadyXWick from my Link RDA (been dedicated to heavy menthol/Licorice flavors), cleaned the deck, and re-wicked with cotton.

Tried the CB at about 9 watts, then the CLS at the same. This on my ZNA/Link RDA with a 2 ohm coil and cotton wick. Then I mixed CLS/CB (in my now empty Frenilla bottle :( ) at a 50/50 ratio.

To be honest, I don't get a lot of the Vanilla that I was looking for. Aslo, I should have tried different power settings with the single flavors because I don't get a lot of flavor until I ran the mix up over 12 watts. Maybe I'm just suffering from a touch of vapors tongue though... Time for some water and set the ZNA down for a while...

I've personally found with my kfl that I don't necessarily mix 50/50 ratio to liquid, but when a tank runs empty I put something that potentially would mix well in a new full tank. So, if I'm doing bakery type flavors, I'll run through a full tank of crème brulee, then using the same wick and cotton fill it full with frenilla after or vice versa. I typically only run about 2 tanks with the same cotton since the darker juices gunk the cotton up pretty quick. Then I clean it, dry burn the coil, and put new cotton in and will typically run opposite tanks after that, that way you are getting a first fresh tank of whatever wasn't the secondary the last time to see how it tastes on its own with nothing mixed. I've found this method is most effective for me because I just don't have time to change the cotton after every single tank I use and honestly after I fill the second tank on the same cotton it seems like the previous flavor burns out after a half dozen puffs.

Thanks Kinggirl...

BTW, your "2 tank per wick" comment made me stop and think. After 15ml of Frenilla, I decided to tear it down and see what the wick actually looked like. I off-loaded the juice I had left in the tank into an empty bottle and took everything apart.

Holy Cow! It looked terrible! Not only did the cotton look like crap but the coil had more than doubled in thickness with black, encrusted, "gunk"...

Did a thorough cleaning, dry burning, and even brushed the coil off with a micro wire brush and finally got it back to normal. Even did another dry burn and squeeze with my tweezers.

I re-wicked with cotton, put the same juice back in, and now it tastes much better than before. I think I'm gonna stick to the "2 tank" rule from now on...

Thanks for your input Kinggirl

The two tank thing is a good general rule for the Kayfun. Coil build-up is an inevitable byproduct of sweet liquid - and most my my line-up qualifies. The sweetener itself is the culprit - unfortunately - removing it entirely results in a liquid that's - eh - eh. I even go so far as to instruct people with stock coils not to purchase Betelgeuse and Gravity, they are the two worst offenders.

Rebuilding and regular coil maintenance is a per-requisite for getting good performance out of any liquid, but it's particularly important for people who use premium liquid. I've said many times and I will say it again here - learning to rebuild and maintenance your own coils is the single most important factor between success and failure in vaping. If you manage to quit smoking, and you learn how to successfully install a hand-made microcoil in your device of choice... you can be 99% sure you will not return to smoking analogs.

Great train of thought though k2zs - I think you inevitably helps lots of lurkers and may not have even realized it.

Thanks Kent,

Only been vaping since early February and have learned a LOT from ECF. But in reality, every day is a learning experience.

I'm so much happier vaping since I moved away from the eGo/Clearo world and premium liquid is just that "Icing on the Cake". I'm looking forward to the next run of Frenilla. :)

I try not to beat up eGo/Clearos because they obviously work for lots of people. For as long as I was on them, it was a case of ignorance is bliss. Wasn't long before the enablers got their hooks in me and I was buying big battery mods and drippers. LMAO I still use clearos for purposes of testing... I haven't gotten any of the "new high performance clearos" - IE, the Nautilus, or the PT3, or the AeroTank... I never quite clicked with dual-coil clearos, by the time they hit the market I was already dripping.

No problem! I've learned a lot through ECF myself and am still learning. I have found that some of the fruit flavors I can push 3 or 4 tanks with and the cotton won't be total crap but like you said the coils will have gunk build up. After you really know what the flavors are supposed to taste like fresh, you can easily pick up on when something's going south pretty quick. But, with the 2 tank rule, it makes it pretty simple to just trash the cotton and add more thus saving your coil from getting really funky.
