Hello friends. This post has nothing to do with NotCigs or even ecigs at all and will probably not be understood by folks who are not heavily into craft brewing or craft beers but this was special and I don't belong to a beer forum so.....
My Son in law (the brewer) brought over a surprise for christmas yesterday, a very rare bottle of Samuel Adams Utopias! This stuff is a triple brewed bock that is then fermented and aged. The alcohol content comes all the way up to 27% making it the second strongest brewed beverage in the world! It tastes like a fine brandy or something. It's pretty hard to find and bottles of this stuff have sold for over $500.00 on Ebay. My SIL found this bottle at an exclusive wine shop in Ann Arbor for a mere $200.00 so, hey, it was a bargain! It's in a pretty cool bottle too.
Luckily my son had found the perfect tiny sterling and amethyst goblets to drink this stuff from a few years ago at a second hand store for a gift for my wife so we were prepared to do this up right.

This, my friends, is about as nerdy as beer gets. :)

BTW, I just noticed. The cobalt bottle behind the goblets in the second picture is a bottle of the triple bock that is the base for Utopias (don't remember the name). It's also very rare but it was awful! it tasted like a mix of molasses, soy sauce and dirty ol' socks! The Utopias, however had an amazing bouquet of flavors.
There were at least 20 bottles of rare beers given as gifts at our house yesterday so it was kind of cool that that bottle happened to be in that pic.

What's your go to brand, I like Beck's Harp Stella among others ? But appreciate a good tip. Very cool and thoughtful gift.

I haven't had a go to brand for years. I don't drink a lot of beer so when I drink it I like it to be special. The most frequent types of brews I drink are porters and stouts. When I come across a barley-wine I rarely pass it up.
I'm not the type of guy to sit around and throw back 5 or 6 pilsners or lagers watching a game or anything. Commercial yellow beers don't taste like anything to me anymore.
If I was to suggest something new for you to try I'd say look for Magic Hat's #9.

I don't drink much anymore either. But I still appreciate a good full bodied beer from time to time. If I followed doctor's advice I'd drink a beer a day. Yeah, let's go with that one.:) I will look for that Magic hat #9 definitely give it a try if I can find it. Thanks
