Eu revision of tobacco products directive

Public consultation on the possible revision of the tobacco Products Directive 2001/37/EC is open until November 19th 2010

EU citizens, economic operators, non governmental organisations and relevant national authorities are welcome to participate in the consultation.

The consultation seeks to gather opinion on topics such as a possible ban on internet sales and postal delivery of tobacco procucts in the EU, possible lifting or tightening the snus ban and regulation of flavourings in tobacco products and sale of electronic cigarettes.

Well, between you and exo, I've learned the UK already gets hit hard. The evil-doers wanna make it harder, but maybe you can throw in a few comments and point them to this study:

Publication - Harm reduction in nicotine addiction

There's a PDF toward the bottom of the page that has the entire study. This is the outfit that alerted the world to the dangers of smoking back in the '60's and now they say reduced-harm products are viable options to those who can't quit and don't wanna die. Of all the studies I've read, this is the best. It was by the Royal College Of Physicians in the UK and is extensive.

Eye'll do some, cos some of it winds me up, even though it's all couched in
'oh so reasonable' language, they're starting from the premise that there's a 'problem'
to be solved.


Snus are banned in EU - Come on, state the whole truth ... it's the sale that's banned not the use !

Problem actually is all the control freaks getting involved,
why do they see themselves as arbiters of other peoples decisions & lives ?

Good god, what more do they need in the way of evidence ??,
snus are superb for moving away from smoking,
I suspect if you start tobacco on snus, smoking will seem like rubbish.

Seems like it's an invitation to join in consultation on how to limit your own life choices,
wish all this sort of stuff would just burn away.

If online snus sales are banned, it'll just raise the price, cos it certainly won't stop the supply,
and more likely to make it a strong 'underground' thing.

Not interested in paying even more tax to faceless authorities, already pay tax on my taxed income,
then further purchase-type tax and import tax and living my own fkin life damn tax.
Sod off big brother !

So stuff it, it comes to PACT like stuff in the EU -
I might move to a certain Scandanavian country, where they make the good stuff !

Either that or go back to making my own snus from the rustica -
which actually was very good stuff, if a bit strong.

Heck exo, you seem sorta peeved. Ain't it great the way all those people you'll never meet are so concerned about your well-being....and your wallet . Yep, the questions are loaded to the max. No studies with positive results? Ha ha. Every single study of 'baccy use and related addiction/health in Sweden proves contrary to the above contrary. That's why all this is so maddening. Just like the US FDA and other organizations, the lies are outright and the masses suffer. I hate 'em all.
