As some of you know I have crohn's disease/ulcerative colitis. I haven't been to a Dr in a while due to not having insurance. I finally got insurance again and saw the Dr Saturday. He said I looked a bit weak asking if I was tired. They took a blood test. This morning on the way to work the nurse from the office called me saying my levels were dangerously low. So low in fact that they said I need to go to the hospital for a blood transfusion.

My iron is a -2 when it should be in the 15-55 range. Ha I'm still wondering how it could be a negative number. I asked the nurse if I could do this transfusion deal on my day off she said it was too dangerous to wait that I could have a heart attack? I'm 34 turning 35 for crying out loud I'm too young for that. I decided to come home and have my father and mother in law to take me with my wife and son. I really don't want to go solo because I'll do my best to get out of there. I hate hospitals plus the fact I'm a bit nervous.

I'm bringing my backpack with me. Got my EA, provari, pila charger, extra batteries, wick and wire if I feel bold lol, juice. I'm not even going to ask to vape, just stealth in the bathroom heh.

I consider you guys family and will keep those of you who care updated. Just a bit freaked out she said heart attack. Really puts things in perspective.

I'm sorry, I know we don't know each other but I understand chronic health issues and hospital stays. Be safe and do what they say. Yes they are a business and need to make money but they ultimately have to try their best to make you healthy... It's their job.

Hey Eric
Cowdog here with tail wagging & a doggie kiss for ya. Haha. (Nothin dirty here. Move on)

My mom has Crohn's too. She is turning 87 next month. She has been living with this problem for over 50 years now. I'm not even sure they had the name for it back then. But same symptoms as now. No surgery so far. She's doing pretty good for nearly 87. She lives alone & plays the piano & paints. Has a bunch of friends too. She is very careful with what she eats & how much.

Hope you take your laptop with you. We want you to keep us informed. Chin up & carry on Buddy.

Unfortunately, I'm familiar with hospitals (four major surgeries in 6 years). The most important thing, in my opinion, is having someone by your side who can speak up on your behalf, follow nurses down the hall and make sure they get what you need, help you untangle your tubing enough to get to the bathroom so you don't have to wait for the over-burdened nurses, etc. Having a family member with me 24/7 made a huge difference in my stays.

I was also warned of heart attack risk when my temp shot up to over 104 and my potassium dropped to almost nothing. It's scary, but you are doing the right thing and getting it taken care of. Good luck and keep us updated when you can.

Once you get your blood count up, I imagine you'll feel better. I have a family member in similar circumstances and she has her blood checked regularly and occasionally has to go in for an iron infusion.

That sounds great. I always wondered why I feel so tired all the time. Hopefully this will give me an energy boost :)

When i donate blood my iron is always higher than normal and the lady always tells me that I'll feel well rested and ready to go when the double reds are done and she's right, when my iron levels are around normal i feel great. Hope to see ya back in here feeling well rested and ready to take on the world.

Will be thinking about you! .. as I drive around in SA traffic in a few.. I'm starting to dislike 35/410 :/

Ha! I'm not a fan of San Antonio traffic either. I'll be at north central Baptist. It's where my son was born and I really like the care. They even have pull out couches for family members. That university hospital is horrible. Dirty bathrooms, nurses with attitude problems. That's another story.

Thanks Jude. That's why my family is taking me. To help and all. It's great to have a supportive family.
