So I am getting into vaping to stop smoking and I am overwhelmed. I bought the Blu starter kit at my local Walgreens...and I don't like it so much. The flavors are all bad and it seems like I am always charging the battery. I have been trying to do research but it all seems so fricking complicated and all geared to people who already understand everything. I am a menthol guy if that matters. Pack a day smoker for 20 years. Live in Berkeley, California if that matters. Thanks.

Hi stephenI74...welcome! :) Berkeley is a really neat city. I went to college at Holy Names College in Oakland and spent allot of weekends in Berkeley! Anyway...I feel your concern as there is allot to learn and it can be a bit overwhelming. Ego kits are a great place to go, as this should solve your battery life issues. Then buy some Boge Cartos 2.0 ohm or lower and learn how to fill them. ITS EASY, JUST YOU TUBE VIDEOS ON FILLING. The fun begins when you start finding some good eliquid that you love, and trust me when I say their are some AWSOME flavors!

So to keep it simple, Ego kit, Boge LR 2.0 cartos, menthol e-liquid! Learn to fill them and search around on ECF FOR a good menthol...meaning one that meets your flavor profile! I love VaporBeast Tobacco Menthow, although you may like something that is just straight menthol. You can find everything you need here! :).

Please feel free to PM ANY OF us as most are happy to help! :)

I would suggest a KGO starter kit. There are several suppliers for KGO kits - do a little research to find the best deal. KGO batteries last me all day and I consider myself to be a pretty heavy vaper. Once you have a KGO or other similar device, you may want to start experimenting with tanks, atomizers, cartos, or other juice delivery systems to something to your liking. There is a lot out there to choose from and everybody has their own preferences. Right not I am liking the Vivi Nova tanks. Please ask questions or ask for advice about anything that catches your eye or that you may be interested in. Lots of folks here will be happy to help you.

Enjoy your adventure!:vapor:

We all seem to start with the mall/drugstore purchase as you have, and it's nothing to be ashamed of - in fact, it's the first step in helping to save your health as well as your sanity!

I started the same as you and I stopped smoking almost immediately. I'm a menthol lover, too, but now, almost eight months into it, I have found that I like the fruity flavors instead of the tobacco flavors. That's what's wonderful - you will learn to try different juices until you find that sweet spot.

Once you have a decent battery to fuel your vapor and a nice carto to hold your juice, take it slowly and try out different things. I've ordered little sample sizes and when some weren't quite right, I mixed 'em up and made them taste how I wanted! In fact, I just mixed up a raspberry, mango, strawberry, strawberry menthol concoction and it's way good. :)

Some people like juices that taste like cake or coffee or melons or licorice. The world is our oyster, so explore.

The only thing you must remember is that if you need to know something, come here. These people are patient, believe me. No question is stupid. And you don't just magically wake up one day and have the perfect setup and the perfect juice. Unfortunately, it takes some time and patience on your part to try out different things. I was lucky enough to have a flea market here with a guy selling Tornado products, so it was great to have someone in person talk to me and show me things and help me through my frustration(s). And you will get frustrated. But you will be shocked at how much better you will feel once you put the cigs down for good. I was sick for a couple of WEEKS as my head filled up with snot (sorry, that's not very ladylike, but, well, it was snot) and all kinds of terrible things in my throat as my body got rid of all the toxins I'd be putting in it during 30-something YEARS of smoking.

Sorry. This was about you, not me.

My main wish for you is that you don't stop trying. Someone said to me this weekend as they watched me fiddling with my vtube (aka "My precious"), "That just seems like a whole lotta trouble to me." I looked up and smiled and said, "Oh, you'd be surprised at how much value I put on all the 'trouble' I have to take to deal with my vaping. There's actually no amount of money that could make me go back to smoking. No amount.'"

He wasn't convinced, but oh, well. His loss. Don't let it be yours.

Good luck!

Welcome to the community! You will find lots of information here and at first it will seem to be waaaaaaay over your head. Don't get discouraged. Just keep reading and it will all seem to fit into place. Kinda like learning to program that VCR back in the day. Ha ha.

I know everyone is suggesting the eGo/kGo style kit. They are great. I like them.
Another choice that you may be interested in is the Volt from Smokeless Image. They are extremely highly rated for new users. They have approximately the same look and feel as a cigarette and some people find this easier to start off with. It consists of a battery and a cartridge. Much like the Blus. Function, however, is second to none with this device. Good draw, awesome battery life, and the flavors...wow! Just wow!

From personal experience, I find it easier to use the Volt when I am out and about or at work. My eGo, ProVari, and other "bigger" devices are used at home or when I am in my truck on a road trip. The Volt is great if I am hanging out with the smokers at work, on the motorcycle, at a bar, etc.

Again, the Volt is much like a real cigarette if that's what you may need to help the transition along. Just my $.02 on the matter. Some here will agree, others will say go for bigger. It all comes down to what you feel helps you make that switch. No matter what you choose, I urge you to stick with it. I've used some pretty rough.....substances?...in the past and cigarettes were the absolute hardest thing for me to put down. It shocked me when I finally understood how addictive those things truly were. Again, please stick with it and don't get discouraged. Get past that 3 day hump and you will be amazed at how much better you feel!!

Edit -- I was also a menthol smoker. Kool milds or blues. Whatever they are called now. Personally...let me bold this...My personal opinion...is a plug for Gamer's Apple from iVape.net. This is the flavor that hit the spot all the time, every time. It is the only thing that I have found that kills that craving when it creeps up on me. Others have their own flavor of juice that cuts the craving. To each their own.

Your post looks so much like my first post. The information that you receive in this thread may actually end up overwhelming you more. Members of this forum are all very helpful but they all have their own preference when it comes to vaping devices and liquid.

My advice is to not give up. Do research on this forum and see what may best suit your needs.
I would agree to go with something at least 3.7V like a Riva (Egos okay but 3.2V, Riva is better IMO) What that device would be depends on how much you still think that you need a cig look alike :)

Good luck to you.

blu ....ing blows. I went through 2 starter kits and about 50 packs of carts before giving up on them. When they work, they taste fine... but that's when they work. The batteries last 10-15 minutes with moderate use. They get too hot and send too much voltage to those tiny carts and taste awful. The carts go bad or burn out prematurely and you end up spending 3x the money you did on regular cigs... I smoked a little less than a pack a day and was using 3-5 carts when I switched to blu because of the low quality.

eGo Twist and a cartomizer or tank system + e-liquid + a charger + an optional cone/sleeve for aesthetics. Cheapest quality route.

eGo starters are also a waste. Take the time to actually understand how the parts work together now, because you'd probably just end up replacing a lot of it with things that were better. Just get them now for about the same price.
