when will I stop wanting a cigarette when I wake up? I have about ten things to do as soon as I get out of bed...the hardest seems to be taking my dog out...I would always have my first two cigarettes when I put him out while I sat on the porch, and I am seriously freaking out about the fact that vape works everywhere except this one time of day!!
I am staying strong and still haven't given in to it....but yep, it is really a hard time of day, and I am irritable with everyone...have to get my daughter off to school and do her hair and everything too...I have tried getting up earlier...but that doesn't help either...HELP!!!

It took me almost 2 years. It was bearable though. I finally bought some unflavored WTA and mixed it with my liquids. A week later no more craving. A month later I stopped using the WTA.

I smelled cigarette smoke while I was laying in bed trying to fall asleep. First thing in the morning I smelled and craved it. It never left.

It's just a mental thing you're going to have to get past. Vape your face off during those times, and I would get a tank of higher nic juice to use during that time. That will help a bit to get you over that hump in the morning.

Exactly what I was going to say. Keep your head up it only gets better.

For me I took a different approach.
I had that morning cigarette then vaped all day. 1 a day is better than a pack a day. It's not a race, and even if it were some people are just faster than others.
After about 4 days, I lit that morning cigarette and it tasted like the southbound end of a northbound dog.
That was that.

Similar experience here. My first couple of weeks of vaping was about cutting down the cigarettes, and eventually I was at just one in the morning and one before bed. Then just one in the morning. I let that be until it started to taste bad, and then I ran out. Refused to buy more and have been okay since.

I'm still at the point of thinking about them and missing them occasionally, but it gets better every day and I miss it less. It does get better!

I too am down to one in the morning. This from a pack a day. But hey that's 19 a day I am not smoking. I think I am smoking that one cigarette because I do have a couple of packs left from a carton. when I run out that will be the end of those stinkies and do not plan to buy more. Go easy on your self. It's not about the ones you smoke but about the ones you don't smoke. We will get there before you know it. Good luck and happy vaping!

I think that the trick is to get your brain to disassociate the craving from the tobacco. If you're still using tobacco, in any form, then it's going to have those associations from all the years of smoking. Once my brain finally started to associate the nicotine with vaping, I lost all desire for smoking almost overnight.

I don't recall everything that I did, but I'd suggest to use higher nic levels and don't worry about tapering for now, try to pay attention to the nic buzz and think about (contemplate) vaping as being a better source, and work with your triggers. I did find that getting a liquid that actually reminded me of cigarette smoke helped a lot in that regard (to my last point: I'd use those liquids when craving), although after I got past them I found that those liquids would induce craving.

I think a big thing for me was just thinking about the situation to the point that I could viscerally feel that I didn't want to smoke and vaping is better. If you feel that smoking is somehow a better experience then you're going to feel deprived and you're going to want tobacco. Watching some videos on YouTube about stopping smoking (ones about why to quit as well as ones about what to expect as your body heals) helped me in the beginning. Exploring flavors also helped. Ultimately, though, it's going to be a personal journey; you'll have to find what works to re-wire those associations in your mind, and that's going to be different for everyone. It would also help to do something you really enjoy and pay attention to the aspects that smoking would have diminished; being able to take a walk and smell peoples' flower gardens from down the block was a good one for me, and if I had kids then I'd bet that taking them to a park or the beach would have been even more powerful.

Don't forget that you'll also need to re-learn stress management skills for the times where your entire strategy was to light up. You've got years and years of positive associations with smoking, and it'll take a little time to undo some of those and build up better ones without smoking. Also, don't dwell on thoughts about tobacco; you can't control them from coming to mind, but you can control whether you respond to the thoughts and keep them going. Just paying attention to these things helped me, and vaping can be a powerful tool in that way. Hopefully that all makes sense.

My hardest was after a big meal. When I started vaping I had no intentions of quitiing was going to vape in my car and house but smoke at work. Found myself vaping at work more an more so I just quit buying cigs. But I still had that craving every now and then. What I did was get a good cig a like. Now I don't even need that.

I consider myself lucky that I've experienced little to no cravings anytime since I started vaping. Attempting to quit prior to vaping resulted is this:

I want a cigarette. No, I quit. I want a cigarette. No, I quit. I want a cigarette. No, I quit. I want a cigarette. No, I quit. I want a cigarette. No, I quit. I want a cigarette. No, I quit. Until I'd break down and smoke one which led to giving up quitting and back to dedicated cigarette use. I completely understand the pain.

I'd try the higher nic route in the morning and still, smoking just one or two a day isn't gonna end the world.

Do not .....foot around the issue. Nip it in the .....

Some suggestions for new vapers:

- Buy some 36mg juice.
- Maybe even try a pack of these Njoy King Bold (45mg)
- More assertive flavors like a strong "cigar" tobacco, or an anise/liquorice will help puffs deliver more "oomph"

It's fine if your ultimate goal is to eventually knock down your nicotine intake with vaping and such. But in the beginning, straight up go for the stronger stuff vaping has to offer. Your body will tell you if you're over nic-ing, and sometimes it helps to even go through that experience at least once to mentally reinforce that vaping can indeed "deliver the goods."

BTW, this also generally works for newer vapers who cave in to smoking while out drinking.

For me the biggest struggle with switching 100% was with my morning coffee, and accompanying alcohol in the evening. The above suggestions helped me a great deal in the beginning.

Great idea about the NJOYs for that early morning craving.
The fact that it looks and feels like the cigarettes you had while dog-walking may help.
Then reinforcing that fact that it's NOT and that you haven't given in is a VICTORY you can claim.

I'm sure you'll get over the hump, just don't beat yourself up.
Good Luck!

One other thing you might want to try is to switch up that morning routine a bit. Maybe instead of letting the dog out and sitting on the porch, you could walk around your yard or if you walk your dog, walk in a different direction than normal. Same with getting your daughter ready for school. Do things in a different order. I know it sounds crazy, but it tricks your brain!

Try a disposable cigalike! Stick it inside the cigarette pack itself

This is a great approach. And BTW missing them is like missing a crappy boyfriend. Once he is gone you start remembering the good times but in reality there just weren't that many. If you get back with him, you remember anew all of the reasons why you gave him up in the first place...LOL

Oops did I type that out loud? Damn, that was supposed to be my inside voice...O_O

If you have a smoke once in a while I can almost guarantee that after not stinking, not having crud mouth, and not blowing a bunch of coin on a cancer causing sea of poisons; that cigarette will start looking and tasting like a shabby substitute.

If you don't pressure yourself too much and you have the rig that allows you to enjoyably get that nic craving satisfied; you will win the battle. At some point it won't even seem like a skirmish.

You guys all have made me feel so much better - not to mention all the help from Peter_C...LOL, he has stuck through me with PM's too :) I thought everyone just started vaping and never got a bad craving again and there was something wrong with me there....I am vaping all menthol all the time (2+packs a day forever), and I am staying at 24mg :) I have seriously not had ONE smoke for the whole time on my ticker...and I really surprised and proud of myself - at first, the craving was right before I walked into work - but now definitely the morning routine - I got some great ideas, going to mix it up with my routine, stay at 24mg (maybe 36 for morning), figure out how to get that dog to wait a couple minutes so I can continuvape for 5-10 minutes...I am going to hang in there - and if I cave (which I don't plan to :D ) I will just jump back on the horse.....to make it this long has been a miracle for me - and I have a funny feeling I can't take the taste of the real ones anymore - maybe use my cigalike in the morning :)
