Hi DKR, and welcome to the forum. The Vamo is a great device but the weak threads is a known issue that a lot of us have faced.

I don't know where you can send it to get it fixed, and to be honest, it's probably going to cost more than you paid for the device anyway.

There are a couple of options for you though. You could take it to a local machine shop - they might be able to tap the threads for you to repair them and should only charge a few pounds.

You could also get some speaker wire or something similar - then wrap some of that around the threads of the airflow controller, then screw it in to the vamo. You'll have to leave it in there permanently, but it just might work. You'll have to be careful to only use enough wire to cover the threads because you do not want any bits of wire sticking out and causing a short.

Finally, you can visit the VAMO forum. When you have 5 posts, you'll be able to post there.

Hi

I'm sorry you're having problems. The biggest complaint I have with my Vamo is having reading all the problems other owners have had with them I baby the d@mn the thing just in case.

I suggest you look the the Vamo sub-forum (it's in the APV forum section) to see if there are any fixes. You aren't the only one who has had that problem. Just to more posts and you will have 5, then you can start a thread in that forum and ask your question directly. Unfortunately, there is nowhere for it to be repaired.

Hi Musicka

I have only had both my vamo and protank for a week and its ruined, i have only used the protank on there and filled it up as and when required i didn't know that the threads were so weak on the v2 otherwise i would have taken a little more precaution but to be honest it feels like a knight stick really strong so i wouldn't have given the threads a second thought..i do now :(

Hi Aglet great advice i think i will see if a machine shop could re-tap it for me then keep the airflow controller on there permanently! im sure it would happen again so wouldn't want to go down that road.

At least i could interchange tanks w/out worrying about those soft threads, makes me sad/mad that this has happened any thoughts on my next purchase guys as i think this PV wont last too long. It would be great if it had a better 510 post all i need really any thoughts fellas..?

Kind Regards Rick

For a PV in same class, I like my Zmax better. It has the same functions, although a one button menu. I actually prefer that, because I frequently accidentally push the adjust buttons on the Vamo when I push the fire button. It also feel more substantial to me. I'm sure others will chime in with their favorites. I will likely get flamed for this, but durability, warranty and the ability to have it repaired is why I have a ProVari.

My v3s threads are still in pristine condition. I'm not sure if there is a difference between the v3 and v2's thread quality. Maybe over tightening to get a good connection was the issue. I find that you can pry up the center pin on the vamo with a dental pick or small screwdriver. My only issue is you can't flush mount an tank I've used on it.

+1 for the Sigelei zmax (not the Smok Zmax). Threads are excellent, as are the fit and finish of the device. i have 2 Vamos and a Zmax (and some other stuff). My Vamo V2 in stainless gets a fair amount of use too and is a good APV but as we know, the threads are a weak point.

My V3 in stainless came with defective threads.

Apart from the slight differences in the menu functions, the Zmax is just as easy to use as the Vamo.

It's just a better quality device.

Hmm well im sure this time next year when ive spent EVEN more money on my hobby i could have bought a provari maybe even twice over i just can't get that kind of money together and all on one device that could also break just as easily im not sure i hear great things about it just couldn't bring myself to shell out so much for a PV that could just as easily break however you do get what you pay for though!!

I think i have just lost confidence in these things as my experiences are mostly bad ones :( its a learning curve i know would just like a little consistency from a mid - range product that will give me a good life. Im sure others are looking for the same too...the hunt continues

The inconsistent quality of AVPs is very frustrating, especially since it occurs more often in devices within a realistically affordable range.

I got my Vamo after I bought higher end APVs, specifically so I could see what all the hoopla of VW is about. It was only after I received it that I read about problems current owners have had. I learned of its delicate 510 connection, and, quite by accident, discovered the tiny gasket around the connect that arrived chewed may fall apart all together and need to be replaced at some point. This is why I strongly recommend vapers looking to upgrade from their current devices read the sub-forums to see the problems other owners have experienced.

Personally, I'm hesitant to buy the latest Hot New Toy being pushed in the New Members forum, not because I'm caught up in the debate of one being better than another, but because they haven't been on the market long enough for any problems to come to the surface.

For example, I had been watching the development of the Protank long before most people were aware of its existence. I use glass almost exclusive and was excited by the potential. I had it on pre-order and was one of the first people in the US to get one. Unfortunately, I was not as pleased as I hoped to be; I gave it a good chance though. By the time I posted the pros and cons of my experience, other people were starting to receive their's and I might as well have been posting about strangling kittens. The consensus seemed to be that I was the only one experiencing any problems with it, so I must be doing something wrong. Rebuilding the coils wasn't in fashion quite yet, so I was told to use an EVOD head instead, and was directed how to modify it since, at the time, no one realized the heads are interchangeable. A short time after that the fix became to remove the flavor wick, then it was to rebuild the coil, now people are told to skip getting a Protank 1 altogether and get a PT2 or a mini or a Davide because the PT1 is junk. I never said the Protank was junk, and after figuring out my own fixes I still use it, but I think you can see a pattern.

I believe some of the problems with the Vamo are the demand, so they are being cranked out as quickly as possible, and that they are made by different manufacturers so variance in quality is inherent. Yet, they are still so popular I can't post any problems I have experienced or reasons I prefer another device, since the way the forum often works (predominantly in New Members) is if someone else hasn't encountered the same issues it's my fault or I just got a bad one. So what if it happened to you, mine's great and it didn't happen to me is irrelevant. If I got a bad one, someone else might too.

FastTech has amazing prices, but I suggest (in general, not just directed at you) not to jump on a bandwagon too quickly. No matter what people are raving about, give this weeks Hot New Toy a chance to be around long enough to prove itself and get some real reviews; in a few weeks there will be a New Hot Toy anyway. The current popular APVS aren't going to be discontinued any time soon (although new and "improved" versions may come up, how much improved might be questionable), but as demand goes down, it seems logical the speed they are being manufactured will go down, resulting, hopefully in a bit more quality.

Welcome to ECF, where the "O" in The Ocelot stands for opinionated and members are frequently bombarded with my Rawrs as I free-associate before I have had coffee. The above Rawr is my personal opinion, based on my personal experience and what I'm thinking about at the moment. Outside of what I have experienced, which is a fact, everything else is conjecture, not fact. Conjecture can be agreed with, disagreed with, debated, or ignored altogether. I don't give I flying fruit bat, just as long as the difference between fact and conjecture are now seared into your brain and applied to everything you read on the forum, no matter how passionately it is posted. I'm going to go make coffee now.

^ ^ ^ ^ - WAS AWSOME you have a nice touch bro and we both think along the same lines this is the case with all purchases i make, i wanted to make a conscientious decision when getting a new PV and looked around the ECF and FT's website for reviews problems advantages and disadvantages and weighed up the cost, wait time and went for it both feet first!! i know its a little gamble with these high volume production line cheap mods they are banging out the door i perhaps just thought "well mine might be the good batch one" however this is sadly not the case but you guys and a little tinkering might just get me on the right road to a happy vaper. My protank 2 just arrived and im with a sad face looking down onto it as i cannot use it at the moment. I will however endeavour to make it my goal to use both the protank 1 & 2 on my vamo as they are a beautiful solid consistent vape imo

I would like to thank all you guys for all the help and in the future i heed the advice much love all

I have three VAMOs as of yesterday. I have a V2 that's been a work horse with no problems, I have a V3 with the same record, then there's the V4 (it's basically a V2 with a V3 OLED display). Of course the 510 threads were geed up right out of the box. So late last night, after messing with it most of the day, I got a pair of pliers and "worked on" the 510 connector. I figured why not because it's no good the way it is and it's not worth the hassle to send it back and probably get another one just like it.

I'm not sure what I done but, to my amazement, all my tanks now screw on and tighten down! It's not a pretty sight when you look down in there where the connector is but it works. I have my fingers crossed that it will last! If it doesn't it'll be back to the pliers.:D

I started to strip the threads but I have attached these on my Vamo and my Zmax V5:

This allows you to use an evod and be able to remove it without dumping juice all over. If the threads on the adapter strip, then replace it as they are very cheap. Problem solved.
