saw someone talking about running a .03 resistance... my limited understanding is that is actually suicidal, isnt it?

I=V/R
I= 4.2/0.03
1= 140 amps???? or 123A if we say 3.7?

is that correct?

that is so far beyond the spec ofr any battery on the market.. thats like asking to blow your face off? except a VTC5 is Amp capped at 30A.. so... thats all it would actually fire... except of course.. sometimes fail safes dont work.. and bad things happen, right?

Am I understanding the math right?

The problem lies in that 30a is the max continuous discharge rate of a vtc5. The burst is higher, don't remember what so ft give me, but it isn't a bold bright line, under 30 amps is safest, and it won't necessarily instantly vent over that, but damage over time, so people don't realize the danger and/or feel like pushing their luck. There's always the possibility that it was a typo, and they meant .3 ohms, which is doable.

thanks for the response and affirmation.

you're right. everything is kitten and skittles.. until a batt explodes and takes your face off!

From what I have seen 18650s in a mod puke more than explode, and that's hard shorted. Outside the mod, hard shorting an 18650 is bad juju.

Move the decimal point and it will be... it's 14 amps, not 140. Use a simple OL calculator, and you've less of a chance to get the math wrong. ;-)

Cheers

He got the math correct, it is 140 amps at 0.03 ohms on a 4.2 volt battery, 588 watts if anyone cares.

A 0.3 ohm coil amps out to 14, which is not what he mentioned in the OP.

Ah ha... I stand corrected. I thought sure it was a decimal point typo, because... who in the hell runs 0.03Ω?

Your understanding of Ohm's law is far superior to that of someone running a 0.03Ω coil.

The logic of someone trying to go there... went completely past me.

Apologies to the OP for my inability to accept the stated numbers verbatim, and assume that you... simply had to have gotten the number wrong.

I'd love to read more of this myself... rather than the short blurb, that currently only serves to set up the balance of the post. Link?

Funny, pbusardo talked about this exact thing in one of his recent videos. It's pretty much a dead short.

I wouldn't try it, but I built a .5 and didn't like it... Way to hot for my liking...

Agreed, the various sub-ohm builds are just too much for me. I like 1.5 ohms and the vape satisfies me just fine.

.7 dual isn't too bad, and it's a decent fog machine in my CLT and tobh attys, but I don't go higher than 3mg nic.

I'm usually around 1.2 to 1.4 in my trident and kayfun. But that's the great thing about rebuilding - it's all about what works out for YOU! (Vape safely though.. Lol)

In a local cloud comp a guy I know ran .03Ω.

He was very foolish, and to top it off, he didn't win. It also prompted me to speak with the owner of the local B&M where this comp took place to suggest that they might want to set some rules so that they might not be held liable for something stupid happening, or calling unwanted local news attention to their shop.
