I would bet this has already been asked and answered but I am sorry guys there is so much info here to try to take in.
I was thinking of picking up the SmokeStik kit at my local tobacco shop for 79 bucks. my question is can I refill those cartridges with juice later?

I wouldnt mind buying the 510 or Riva or one of the inexpensive manuals but I am just confussed on where to go get it the cheapest and still havent figured out all of the parts I need. Maybe I will call one of the vendors and let them talk me through it.

Would I mess up terribly getting the smokestik? I have quite smoking now but I want to be able to vape a few puffs off and on through the day.
Thank you guys for being patient I really appreciate it.

I think Smokestik is RN4081 and honestly there is not a lot around for RN4081 compared to 510/Ego and KR808D-1

The most supported 2-piece is KR808D-1 (see VaporLeaf.com, LiteCigUSA.net) aka Vapor4Life.com model (in colors, camo, and the largest selection of prefilled cartomizers). It is most supported 2-piece in prefilled soft-cap cartos, variety of blank soft-cap cartos and reservoir cartos, variety of adapters, etc.

I know Vapor4Life's cartomizers are soft-cap and easy to add juice to, and there are soft-cap blanks you can buy there and elsewhere. And filling is important because despite ripoff "name" brand lies, a carto does not last as long as a pack of cigarettes. But if you keep it damp with juice so you don't singe the stuffing, a carto can last for days.

BTW - most people here use manual batteries. More sealed against death-by-juice-leak (not dependent on a drag sensor in the battery's threaded end), more control over your drag, won't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration, and I think manual is less work.

The vast variety of kits can be confusing at the begining. Different manufactorers and shops intensionally rename the same products.
When talking about parts I think its important to establish that every e-cig has only 3 main parts. Battery/powersource, Atomizer (which actually vaporize the liquid) and a mouthpiece which holds the cartridge. All the cartridges can be refilled. I personally recommend trying dripping from the day one. (you can forget the cartridge, just drip 2-3 drops of liquid directly to Atomizer.). As for atomizers I suggest trying 510 first and then if necassery trying others. If you don't need the mobility I think a good starting point would be few 510 attys, USB passthrough (no batteries, one less variable to worry about) and bottles of different flavours. And ofcourse a mouthpiece. If you wanna use cartridges you can make them out of tea bags.

Smokestik IS an RN4081 (also compatible with dse103). If you are set on getting one you can get it here for less money:
Electronic Cigarette/Ecig RN4081 Starter Kits at Discount Prices

BUt I don't recommend it. If you want one that really does it's job (making vaping enjoyable instead of tolerable) then you should get the Riva LIte Bundle from liberty flight (hit the 20% off banner first) for only $30. It's got about 3 times the battery life and uses a 510 size threading so it's the most supported model around, in other words, you can get parts and pieces for it from just about any vendor.

With the RN4081, you'll be searching for parts and pieces.

The ideal kit for you is:

Riva lite bundle: $30
60ml e-liquid to start: $30+
shipping: $3

total: $65?

You can even get some cartomizers too (from litecigusa), I think they're worth looking into.

The other more popular and supported e-cig is the KR808D-1. You can get it at Litecigusa for $35. The battery doesn't last as long as the Riva, but it's a really easy e-cig to use because it's a 2 piece unit. Just screw on a cartomizer and vape.

It's really hard for the local guy to offer a decent price for these things, so you can always expect a pretty good mark up if you buy from the local merchant. Fortunately, the online vendors are really fast -- usually you'll get your package in about 3-4 business days from most of them (unless you order from China, big discount but you might have to wait a while).

I agree with the advice...you shouldn't need to pay that much for a starter kit. Stick around here and ECFers will guide you to a good website (well established) and you will get rolling for half that price.

Think about this. When I started about 4 months ago, I paid $80 for a RoughStack mod from MadVapes, which I still use today and have the same batteries and attys it came with. Of course I've moved on to different attys, but this is what I got for $80:

1 Rough Stack Unit
2 Protected 1200mah 18350 batteries
1 AD-103 Multi function Li-Ion Battery Charger
2 510 Atomizers (3.2 ohm)
5 Empty 510 Flat Tip cartridges(with filling but no e-liquid)
1 10 ml e-Liquid USA 24mg

I appreciate all of the responses.
dedelein I hunted around Houston today and couldnt find anyplace. Not sure where to go but I would love to find one I could hold and look at. All the smoke shops had was the 39 dollar kits that look like a cigarette pack.
I have read some on the smokestik and the reviews are ok for what it is. I do realize it is not ideal for heavy use like any automatic. I may just get another disposable to hold me off until I can get set up right. Why spend the bucks unless I get a product that will last for me.
Thanks for talking some sense into me. lol

I do know how you feel. It's weird to buy something on line that you can't even look at first hand. One thing that got me to make that leap was the realization that just about every e-cig out there is disposable. Unless you buy the big battery mods with the replaceable batteries, then the whole 'cigarette' part of the thing is a battery.

Batteries die, atomizers die, cartomizers really die... every thing's disposable. So then I had to ask myself, "how disposable do I want it to be for the money?"

My eGo (same as a Riva, different manufacturer) lasted me about 10 months and they cost $40-$60 each kit. I could buy 4 disposables for that and each one would only last me a week or so.

I just reasoned that if it didn't work, I'd just get a different kind next time. After all, I was spending $80-$100 a month on smokes, what's $40 on something that'll replace them for 10 months? I could buy a new kit every month and enough e-liquid to to use in it for less than I spent on cigarettes.

you might also check out Buy E-Cigarette Kits, E-Liquid & Accessories online | Kingpincigs they have great prices and free shipping whatever you chose i suggest you also ordering non tobacco liquid when i ordered mine i ordered tobacco liquid and fruit liquid thinking i would vape the tobacco more but found that i enjoy the fruit much better and rarely use the tobacco for a 510 kit 2 batteries 2 atomizers and 5 cartridges and a charger 30-35 bucks is a good price you can find at several different vendors if speed is what your looking for i believe dfwvapor.com (dallas fortworth) or vaporkings.com (sandsprings oklahoma) are fairly close and may ship faster but would most likely be paying a few bucks more and i havent personaly used either of these sites but i have considered it several times since there relatively close not sure if its right or not but i have been told all the pv's are pretty much made by the same few companies in china i could be terribly wrong so someone please correct me if i am

I wouldnt mind buying the 510 or Riva

The Rose person has good advice. Here's more. Presuming you go with something like the Riva, I'll use the more expensive eGo as an example, you get something big and bulky that'll operate all day, take 300 recharge cycles before having to replace the battery. For someone like me, about equal to 1.5 packs/day those 650-750mAh should last all day, thus last you over 600 days before you have to consider new batteries. 750mAh @ ~$30/battery.
I believe the 510 offers 180mAh batteries, and one requires 4 $12 batteries to equal one $30. Even mega batteries for the 510 @ 280mAh, that's 2.7 batteries @ $15/each. And here's the kicker, you can get 1100mAh batteries representing 6x $12 batteries, or 4x $15 batteries. And these batteries are also $30, vs $72 for the 180mAh, or $60 for the 280mAh. And the Riva batteries seem to be less than $30.

If you're going ~3packs/day, you might burn though two 750mAh batteries/year, or the starter kit itself, let's say $80 (you can find them for less). Vs $144 or $120 for the 510.

Not that the 510 is lame, it's not. It's just smaller, and as such has a higher cost of operation.

I really appreciate all of the help and advice. I am going to just hang loose until I can order the riva started kit I think. I tend to get in a hurry and I do want to go ahead and get somthing that will last for the money. So I am going to take time to compare all of the approved vendors here with the recommendations made by Rosa.
Cant argue with her logic.
I do want to pick a vendor that has a good reputation for sure.

That is exactly what I got except I also got 2 boxes of 2.0 boge cartomizers and a pass-thru and some drip tips. That way you have 3 batteries, plus the option to drip, use carts or cartomizers.

I'm not so fond of their juice, but that's personal preference and you need to try a few until you find one you like. Their juice was good enough that I was able to quit the analogs though.

But the setup Rosa suggested is almost exactly what got me started, and I couldn't be happier. Good luck!
