So I had a mishap with my REO/Cyclone setup and decided to grab an istick to hold
me over until I can get another Cyclone, or atleast get mine fixed. So I dropped a Kanger Aerotank I had laying around on the iStick, filled it with some PBC/Virus mix and took a vape. YUCK!!!! What the hell???? Tasted like burnt crap. 7 watts, 8 watts it didn't matter. So I took to the intrawebs in search of how to rebuild a kanger protank head and voila! Ruby Roo on YouTube to the rescue. Took me 10 minutes to rebuild the could and get it going. OMG...seriously such a good vape. Crazy good flavor!!! So....never being able to leave good enough alone, I found a rebuild video from RipTripper where he wrapped a 1.5ohm 28ga. coil and stuffed in the protank head and Wow!!! 10 watts of pure love. What a great little setup. I really have no issue with it other than the size of the tank so I ordered an Aerotank Mega to fix that. In my opinion this is the ultimate "vaping on a budget" setup.

This is so very true. A good build on a Pro Tank will take it from a so so tank to a Wow tank in short order. Although I don't really use them anymore, I do service them for a friend and he is quite happy. If you can knock your builds down to the 1.2 range, they get even better.

The stock coils are problematic at best although I have read that they have somewhat improved.

How much mileage are you getting out of those rebuild heads Matt?

Matty, as you found out, a rebuilt protank really makes a difference. I also use 28ga, but usually build for 1.0 ohms (+ -), makes the coil a bit smaller and easier to fit in. I also wick with rayon...

I agree with this except for one thing. On the iStick, if that ohm drops even a fraction below 1.0ohm it will not fire. Coils "settle" and sometimes drop a hair. I would shoot for 1.2 Ohm and then you have room to drop.

They are fantastic Kent. I am using rayon so I am getting between 3-4 days. Plus they are ridiculously easy to rewick. Maybe takes 2 mins. I purchased an Aerotank Mega for the additional capacity but the coils are made a bit differently now. I was able to modify it though and now I am able to get through the workday without having to refill. It still is a nice size as well.

You are so right on that one. I built a coil that read 1.1ohm before using. After 10 mins of vaping , it dropped to .9ohm and the istick wouldn't fire it. I am actually shopping for a DNA device to remedy this situation. I noticed the Vaporshark rDna 30's are down to $119.00 so I think that's gonna be my next purchase. I do love the istick's great battery life but if you forget to charge it, it can be an issue. Once the battery drops below 25% I notice that the quality of vape suffers. I have no issue carrying a spare battery, just like I do when using my REO.

I've found that if I can catch my iSticks with even just one black bar of charge showing, they charge up a lot faster than when they run out completely. Not sure I notice any loss of flavour etc. when it gets below 25% charge ..I'll take more notice!

Maybe it's just a mental thing with me. I know when the battery in my REO gets below 3.9v I feel the flavor suffers. Who knows. It's probably just me.

Not just you...about to plug in to charge before it shuts down on me (and this I agree with completely, super fast charging if you catch it soon enough) and it's just a weak vape to me. Hadn't even looked at the charge till I was reading this and thought, "Hmmmm, vape is off, where is my battery at?" And yup, it's low. :thumb:

It just surprises the heck out of me how long the battery lasts on that little istick. I can't think of another mod I would rather have for low profile vaping.

Though I have to up my coils ohms. I've been using my 1.1-1.2 ohm coils and they suck the battery dry FAST! I like it set for watts and if I use a 1.4 ohm coil the watts adjust to make it seem like a 1.1 ohm hit. And even with the wattage used it still is keeping the battery running longer.
