...but I have tried juices...100%pg, 30 pg/70vg and 40pg60vg...and it all creates a terrible coating in my throat and mouth as well as making my lungs hurt...a lot (front and back); it's actually soothing to smoke a regular cig at this point. I have some 50/50 juices coming and am not quite ready to give up yet; my kids are too excited and I have invested a bit in this. Has anyone else had this issue? If so what has helped (possibly 100% vg?)? Or is it a lost cause for me?

Edit: It's also making me cough like I'm going to burst something.

What ecig are you using ? If you were a relatively heavy smoker you will also go thru a good week or so coughing up phlegm. The vg juice is a little more gentle if you smoked ultra lights or similar it may be more to your liking. Then there is your juice. Hopefully you've bought from a reputable seller. I have thinned mine with water and don't know why but it really made me cough a lot. I hope you are able to find a solution good luck. It is worth it.
And yes drink lots a water

Hmmm, I have probably not been drinking as much water as I should, though I have tried to make sure I always have a glass/bottle at hand.

Previous to vaping I was a 1.5 PAD turkish blend non-light smoker.

My e-cig is kGo/1100 bat and I have tried cart+atty, cartomizers and drip tips. I atarting with the PV on Monday the 18th, so perhaps just need more time. But, for right now, it's really miserable.

I will stick with it a bit more, but am getting mighty discouraged.

Thank you for the encouragement and advice!

Drink water, drink lots of it I hate water but I make myself do it. It makes a big difference... my lungs didn't hurt though.

What kind of atomier or cartomizer are you using. If you are not keeping it wet enough you will burn the juice and this is acrid and will make you cough and have sore throat. If you are using carts I bet they just aren't working (they don't work). Since you are used to smoke you might not notice the burnt flavor. If this is just a 510 starter kit or something from the mall, I bet you are using a 510 or 306 atomizer and carts. These do not work well. Try taking the cart off and dripping a couple drops on the bridge in the atomizer. If you are using cartomizers with filler in them the same thing can happen if it gets too dry. take a puff and see if you notice a difference. You may be allergic to the components in the juice. If thats the case it may not be for you. Don't give up! I would bet that you are not getting enough juice on the atty. If you are using a very high nic juice it can be harsher on your throat as well. Try dropping to a lower nicotine level. VG is much less harsh. You could try all VG juice. Might have to just direct drip though as it is very thick and won't work well in many cartos and carts. Hope some of this helps. Good Luck!

I am using Boge cartomizers and my drip tip is a 306. I have a 510 drip tip coming in the mail. My current juices all have a nic level of 18mg, I have ordered a few more 18mg as well as a few 24 mg in the hope that a higher nic level might lead me to vape less and therefor irrritate me less (maybe that's backwards though).

As for taste...cirrently I can't seem to taste much of anything; I've been told that a few days of that is normal, though it does make it difficult to tell when I have run a cart/carto "dry" I don't think I have been as I am a little OCD about topping them off regularly. And cleaning them! :)

With the replies thus far I'm thinking that increasing my water intake (I like water, so not a problem as long as I'm not too distracted!) might be a big part of the solution! Will try.

Thanks again...everyone is so responsive and friendly here so far :)

I think that when you smoke & vape you prolong some of the lung irritation,
I was coughing & had some discomfort ...
I also found that 100% pg was adding to it,switching to all VG helped & once I quit analogs altogether everything seemed better in just a few days . Then a few months in I tried some small amounts of pg again & I can do some ...50/50 still causes sore throat the next day.
The slim coat feeling will go away as time passes.
more water always helps too....& if you find VG to thick you can just add a few drops of distilled water/or PGA to thin it out

another thought try not to inhale down into your lungs as much .
the NIC absorbs in your mouth anyway, you really don't need to inhale .

Thanks all! I am going to try increaing my water intake. I will try out the juices I have coming and if they aren't any better feeling I will try moving to 100%vg (will not give up yet!!). It's really really hard right now to cut out the regular cigs altogether (after meals and especially when the vape gets too uncomfortable). We shall see...we shall see; (at the very least I have gone from 1.5 PAD to 5-6 cigs a day) I'll keep on keeping on ;)

It's possible that you might be having a reaction to the PG. It happens with some people. I also noticed that the first week or two of vaping was pretty harsh for me. I would cough and it was so much harsher on my throat than smoking. Your body gets used to it though. After a couple of weeks, that goes away. I might switch to 100% VG and see how that goes. Alien Vision sells some great 100% VG juice, I highly recommend Boba's Bounty. Vaperite is another good supplier of 100% VG juice. They even have an organic line and most of them are great. Loved the organic waffles, hated the organic lemon drop. And their VR4 is my favorite juice. It's pretty tough on the atomizers though.

Not trying to hijack but..I'm kind of worried because I HAVEN'T coughed that much... I smoked for over 20 years hevaily for at LEAST 10 of them. Does that mean that junk is just going to stay in my lungs or do different peple let loose at different rates?I had the dry mouth the coating, the temporary loss of taste on some very annoying post nasal drip. I did occasionally cough but not more often than I was used to and I haven't coughed anything up.

i thaught i had run a couple cartos dry untill i actually burnt one and it tastes exactly like smoking a filter from a real cigarette. and as far as an atty it running dry that burning metal taste is very very hard to ignore so if your paranoid about it dont be to worried because when it hits that special taste youll know the second you did it. i did get the coating in the throat every once in awhile but never really payed attention to it, don't know what pg/vg conentrate mine came from in my first juices but after cutting everything i now have down to about 70 pg and 30 pg i havent had a problem with

It took me a couple of weeks before I really started coughing the gunk out, and it lasted a month or 2 after that. I can't give exact numbers on the time it took because it's been almost 2 years since I switched to vaping. I did have a chest x-ray a couple months ago for something else and the doc was very happy with my lungs.

I also had a soar throat at first and definitely drinking a lot helps (tho I'm bad and drink soda more often than water). It does go away after a few weeks of vaping. I too use a 70% PG / 30% VG mix because I like the amount of vapor it produces while still allowing good flavor.

Yeah my regular vendor only does 70/30 mixes but I'm pretty happy with that combo although I did just get an order in that is 50/50 because they had a couple flavors I'd read good reviews on. We'll see how that works out after it has steeped long enough to try.

Some thoughts on harsh e-juice/irritation:
1) A poorly performing atomizer/carto can cause it
2) Allergies to PG/VG/flavoring
3) Too high of a nic level
4) insufficient voltage/amps (dirty connections, for example)
5) I've found some juices gave me irritation. Changed vendor. No more issues.
6) funky juice.

I vape using authentic joye 3.0 ohm atties on a 5 v box mod with DIY juices, and a good supplier of quality ingredients. No issues, other than with some flavorings (which I can avoid since I DIY).

Be very careful if you think it is an allergy issue. Other than that, it's probably a poorly performing e-cig... for one reason or another. Or bad juice. At 40/60 it should have been very smooth.

I'd say 1) switch juice vendors just to see. 2) try a 5 volt Passthru+wall wart using 2.8 - 3.0 ohm atties.

did you seriously say that smoking a cig is soothing to your throat?
wow.
You need to quit smoking! Don't worry. If you keep it up you'll get used to it and realize how addicted to smoking you really were!
Even your body will make excuses to keep you on cigs!

EDIT
Is it every drag you take or just every so often you get that feeling?
Are you making sure to keep your atty wet? Just making sure you're not dry hitting it or anything....
