So I used to have an MVP 2.0 and I loved it to death. After a year off from vaping I jumped back in with an MVP 3.0 Pro and a Kanger Subtank Mini (.5ohm coils) It's been a few weeks and it's doing nothing for me. I've tried a few other Sub-Ohm tanks and I just get NOTHING from a lung hit.

I was in a Smoke Shop locally that had Aspire K-1's on spinners as their "testers". I had forgotten how satisfying the mouth to lung vape inhale felt. I'll never be able to ween myself off of cigarettes with a lung hit. It does little (for me) to replicate the feeling I need to be satisfied.

So I went ahead and ordered 2 K-1's and 2 packs of replacement BVC coil heads (Ordered the 1.8 because I had heard that performed better at higher wattage) So I'm at a cross roads.

I know I can use these on my MVP 3.0 Pro with the adapter (though I've never felt super great about set ups like that) but have a feeling the K-1 will look super silly on top of this beast. I know I'll have to power down my wattage from where it's been on the subtank as well.

Right now literally my only mod is the MVP 3.0, only tank is the single Subtank (and the K-1's that are on the way)

I need a recommendation for a back up device. When I was in the store I loved how the juices tasted in the K-1's on spinner/c-twists on the 4.8/5.2 volt settings.

I'm thinking..

MVP 2.0 ($35 from mt. baker)
Innokin VV 4 (Still between 30-40)
Aspire 1100 passthough.

I like the idea of a sleek pen style backup device but I'm not going to use one of those fire hazard 510 connection chargers and it's got to be a passthough.

I've heard good things about aspires line of CF batteries even the lower 900, 1000, 1100mah ones but only found 1 on one website that offered the passthough version and its like $25 bucks.

I like the idea of innokin products too. They've been the most durable in my experience and I trust them. The Innokin Itaste VV 4 is basically everything I'm looking for but I have trouble with the idea that I would pay the same price as I would for an MVP 2 and get 1/3 the battery life.

I don't do battery swapping, or mech mods. I want something with a built in long lasting battery, that is a pass through. I'm leaning toward picking up and MVP 2.0 to be my back up but in a perfect world I'd be able to score 2) Itaste VV model 4's. I like that they bumped the watts up and increased the battery a little but that price point is killing me. I know it's got almost everything I want but can't get over how expensive it is compared to devices (I don't want) that are more advance, with as many, more or better features in the same price range.

Can I use the K-1's on my MVP 3.0 Pro at low watts to match up with the 1.8 ohm coil heads (using the adapter)?

Which device should I get as my back up?

Is there a place on here to buy/trade?

Thanks
<3 the long winded new guy

Hi @M.P. and welcome to the forum. The first thing I did when I moved to the Subtank Mini's from the Nautilus was to swap out the wide bore drip tip for a cheap ($2) 510 drip tip which was more narrow. I then mouth to lung vape with the Subtanks just by closing down the air flow to the middle setting.

For the .5 ohm coil I would recommend starting at (low power) about 16 to 18 watts and take a hit. Bump it up a watt or two. If it starts to taste funny, or burnt, or too hot, back the power off. I used the rba the most on my Subtanks and .5 ohm was usually around 20 to 25 watts depending on my build or juice. You'll have to experiment to find your spot.

What I found worked out real well for the MVP 3.0 Pro also having the 2.0 with Dr Who skin and the MVP 20W models along with several other Innokin and eLeaf mods is I simply slapped the Aspire Atlantis V2 Mega tank on the 60w as well as on the three 50w iSticks, a SMOK 50w BEC Pro, and another having bought a half dozen of those. The air flow at 25w is quite adequate without being a "Cloud Chaser"!
For the 70w Innokin Cool Fire IV Plus mods I went for the Freemax Starre Pro and latest Scylla tanks on those as well as the 100w iStick and a 150w Luxyoun wooden box mod still seeing them run about 30-40w on average for the higher wattage capability.

As for the Alledged "Sweet Spot" there are too many variables to outline anything specific to fit all from the start! Each will have their own preferences and see changes made over time as their experiences are also unique per person! Often for each individual flavor from each individual source on each individual hardware combination you have to tweak things a bit slowly at first to find the spot "you feel" not what someone else feels is right for you.

It's like the Zillion Dollar lottery trying to find just that one winning combination! Starting at 20w - 25w then slowly increasing the watts up a bit a time on sub ohm tanks depending on the coil resistance being one more factor to look at is likely the best option for each flavor.

Thanks for reaching out guys. I get great flavor in my Subtank using the .5 coils and generally I'm between 30-36 watts on most of my juices. I generally go with a higher VG juice. Sometimes max VG but I don't mind 20 or 30% PG mixed in.

I've tried using the more closed off airflow on the subtank and it's generally okay but once in a while it gets so hot I almost always leave it on the most open setting. I hated the 1.2 ohm coils and never tried the .2 ohm coils.

I had an Atlantis and a Nautilus back before I fell off the Vape Wagon and hated them. I may have had them before they revamped the BVC coils again but I'm not going back to those. Can't do it.

I do HATE the wide born mouth piece on the Subank and I'm glad you reminded me I can swap it out, though I hate spending money blindly maybe I can take a chance on a new tip.

Mostly I'm feeling good about the older K-1 tanks. And I'll probably retire my Subtank when they arrive tomorrow. I use to rock them on my MVP 2.0 way back and always loved the way the performed so I'm good there.

I guess I'm really trying to figure out if and how well they will work on my MVP 3.0 and beyond that what device I should get as my backup device. I know the 4500mah battery will last me a lot longer at lower watts using the K-1's but if I'm out all day, when I come home I want something fresh to use while it charges. I chain vape and everyone should have a back up.

I really want to get the Itaste VV version 4 but wish they made it with bigger battery. So I'm leaning a little towards the MVP 2.0.

For $35 bucks to have a back up device that had an enormous battery life, will fit my K-1's very well and look great, and be dependable. My only worry is that the 11watt max may not bring me to the sweet spot I need for a 1.8 ohm coil that the K-1's have. Then I think the Itaste Version4 gets up to 15watts so I'm good there but it has an awful short battery life with just the 1000mah.

I'm pretty good on what tanks to use. Just trying to decide on a Backup device at this point. The Subtank is solid and reliable just not really made for what I want, and the K-1's are outdated but do exactly what I want them to. I'm okay with a pen style battery like the Itaste's because they're thin and a little tank like the K-1 will look decently flush on them. They would look even nicer on a thin Aspire 900 or 1000 mah battery too but I can't see spending $20-30 on a pen battery as my back up when the MVP 2.0 is only $35.

Since I already have an MVP 3.0 I think I may just pick up an $8 evod twist off ebay just for now (knowing it wont last long) and debate if I should get an MVP 2.0 or the Itaste Version 4 just a bit down the road when I have a little more cash.

Just spent $35 with priority shipping on 2 K-1's and 2 packs of replacement coils from VapeShop.com (formerly WorldofVape)

and $36 shipped priority on a 30ml, 3 mg I <3 Donuts and 30ml 3mg Strawberry Juice Roll up from ejuicedirect.com

Cash is a little tight right now. I'd consider buying someone's used devices they have laying around. I know most of you guys all have 52,000 mods and tanks and such laying around. Is there a specific place to find used stuff here?

Welcome and glad you joined.
"Old Dog..New Tricks. How do I find the sweet spot?"
I always start at the lowest watt setting that produces a fair taste and a minimum amount of vapor. Then adjust up incrementally.

Oh I just noticed something. I had meant "sweet spot" in a more philosophical sense. As in where will I find the perfect balance. Can one man combine the perfect tank, device and juice to carry him aloft into the non smoking thunderdome of his dreams, kinda thing.

Didn't mean the real sweet spot. I do appreciate the kindness shown to me though. Much obliged kindly welcome wagon.

As for battery time and 15w the KST or other eGo-V V4 is a 15w vv/vw type battery with the eGo threading of course where you would need beauty ring for any 510 tanks. 1300mah over the 1000 with the v4.

For a sub ohm capable mod with actual battery life that will outlast the 4500mah seen with the 3.0 Pro you would go with the shorter in height iStick 50w model That goes 3-50w and the 4400mah battery there has been put up against the 3.0 Pro here and definitely can even be left on for days or weeks at a time.

As for not wanting the wide bore type drip tip I hear you there having run into that on a few tanks while my lower wattage substitute tank would be the Aspire Nautilus good for upto 18w right about for the max. For an alternate sub ohm tank the Sense Herakle as well as Freemax Starre have the narrower tips on those. The Nautilus and Nautilus Mini tanks are generally run on the Vamo Fire 20w and Vamo V6 20w models here with the Vamo Fire having the wider wooded cover over the main battery tube. That's the one Vamo that's strictly 18650 batteries only while the others see the shorter 18350 tube option.

Before the Atlantis and other sub ohm tanks arrived I would generally see either a Nautilus on top of a Vamo if not the VTR or a SMOK Tumbler commonly on the eGo- ? type batteries including the four iTaste VV v3.0s with one now seeing a base off of Tumbler frozen solid on it! May break the sam sing using channel lock pliers to break the hold due to the square top portion under the main threading being presse fitted and could be torn right off trying to fight with that! No more eGo threaded anythings in use here.

Stumbled upon the eleaf istick 20w today. tiny, tiny little thing. 2200 or 2000mah battery. with the adapter the K-1's looked totally solid on it. Nice little stealth vape. Price is the same or less at the MVP 2.0 and Innokin Istick version 4 would be. Only it gives me a great battery and is the stealthiest. Pretty sure this is what I'll get for my back up device.

On a side note the little tobacco shop I got a bottle of juice at today sold me some old Halo juice. Tribeca that is 100% PG and is completely useless to me. Horrendous. I only used one ml of the 30ml bottle. I'm about to jump back on a bus and see if they will take it back and use it for their tester bottle since it's a juice they "feature" and swap it out for something else for me. It's a gamble even making this trip because I don't think they're going to do that for me but I have to try.

Thank you for the heads up good sir. Just about to order an iStick 20w from Mt Baker. With the free shipping coupon it only comes out to $31 and change. I think I can live with that.
The 30 and 40 are much better and can be found for that price. Better power delivery system, steel threads, spring loaded posts.

Mt Baker has some good flavors there you might consider as well as a look at another source for quality ejuice and forum supplier here at ECF as well as one of the Top Ten US producers! Crystal Canyon Vapes: American Made Eliquid Voted Best Ejuice

CCV is now celebrating it's 3rd anniversary as I am now 3 full years with only a couple of exceptions 100% smoke free since 3/30/13! As for the 20w iSticks however you might want to hold off since many a complaint heard about the threading likely from rough handling however of people stripping them out as well as the fire button rattle.

Here's how the pair here looked back when the 20Ws were first out.

    2eojp6q.jpg

The Bending Adapters were put on to prevent thread wear. But the spring on one got stuck and I ended up simply tossing the adapters in the spare parts box!

Supposedly the 30w 2600mah as well as 50w saw the button rattle corrected. I have three of the 50w here as well as two of the 20Ws, one 10w Mini, and the recent pair of 40w Temp Contol models as well as one Cool Fire IV 40w and the latest CF IV Pius 70w. The typical eGo style tank still only maxes up about 10w. I ran with the Nautilus Mini tanks on the pair of those. You can see those and except one of the two 40w TC CF mods I left out as well as a number of eGo VV/VW type batteries and a mountain of old tanks now good for spare parts as well as the iTaste VTR in the upper left of the insert I used to offset the new forum sig.

The latest investment was from not shopping the Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Holiday discount deals but waited a bit like I had to initially for the 50w iSticks to finally get into something best suited here. another online juice vendor looked at recently was Vape Garden having a different set of flavors to choose from like trying to find a good Gourmet Coffee flavor like "Rachael's Gourmet" in ejuice not seen yet!

That 40w Cool Fire IV by the way only sees a 2000mah battery in comparison while being a nice compact but slightly large mod. The best iStick however I have to say would be the 50w where you can still run a SMOK Tumbler as one of the two tanks in the snapshot along with the Nautilus Mini seen there at 6-8w being a much cooler vape. All iSticks come with the eGo adapter.

The 20s here were simply packed away however once the two 40w models were in before any of the CF models were even looked at. Those will be kept as spares if and when any of a few friends decides to take a second look at vaping again.

Meanwhile if you are on a tight budget then price shopping is what can lead you to some good deals at times. While numerous places wanted $60-$90 on the Cool Fire IV Plus 70w mod I picked up three from one place at only $43! I still see the iTaste VTR priced way up at $65+ for that old 3-15w single flat top 18650 powered model from Innokin there.

Just got my K-1's in today with 3 bottles of Juice. Have the K-1 on my MVP 3 pro with the adapter. Rocking a 1.8 coil and Strawberry juice roll up in 3mg at 11watts. It's glorious. both juice and battery conservation paired with the mouth to lung feel I love. Also 30ml bottles of I <3 Cookies and I <3 Donuts. Had donuts before, interested to see how the flavor holds up in the K-1. Cookies I took a chance on. Let you know how they work out.

Sounds good! I just finished off a small bottle of a Green Apple flavor being one of the sample flavors I got in some time back when ordering a mod more likely and probably a tank and spare coils at the time as well. Another one of the test flavors I run with on occasion will be a Strawberry Ice flavor the ice being menthol while I also get a Strawberry Watermelon blend from the usual supplier with menthol added in at times.

As for bakery flavors I tend to avoid some entirely having run into Dry wicking issues in the past with some brands I simply avoid entirely! Even with the better gear seen at this time the brands were simply not worth the bother and why I mentioned one of the best earlier. Mt Baker has a good selection there too as well as a few others like Vista Vapors and Vape Garden has a few good ones for the lower wattages there too!
