This is going to be my newbie-schpeel:

1) Hello!
2) Skip the cigarette-looking batteries and start off with an "eGo" style battery and a clearomizer. You'll probably branch out soon enough, but I very, very much feel you'll get a far better first impression if you go that route. Look around here (really!): people with the stick-style batteries tend to be disappointed with the battery life and capacity and power soon after. Sadly, this is usually after they've spend even more $$$ in an attempt to make them work (spare batteries, more cartridges, etc.)
3) FastTech - Gadgets and Electronics is a great place to get a very cheap starter kit. $20 (free shipping) could have you ready-to-go in the equipment department. That's the same price as a "typical" stick-style starter kit... for much more "machine".
4) Juice is like toilet paper: there is no such thing as buying too much. Most of the regular up-keep cost of e-cigarettes is in the juice. Buy bulk once you have a flavor picked out. If you really want to save serious $$$, pick a flavor you like and endeavour to make a DIY equivalent that you can make in quantity.
5) Enjoy!

Welcome, and Congrats! I would agree.. I started with the Blu, lasted a week before changing and charging batteries drove me crazy, went to a local shop and got a cheap eGo kit, and have been much happier since, it really is a game changer, and whole new world of vaping. Once you are comfortable, and if you are a little handy, there are tons of YouTube videos on rebuilding your own coils, and DIY Juice. You can save a ton of money, and get it just how you like it.. Vape On.. Z

Welcome to vaping!

I'm 29 and smoked for 15 years. I got to the point where I would smoke a pack a day... my lungs couldn't take it anymore. You guys are not alone. Everyone here has a similar story and we feel your pain!

Like bazmonkey said. Try to avoid the cigarette looking batteries and buy at least an ego style battery with a clearomizer. IMO, 2 of those would be perfect to begin with. Soon enough you will know if vaping is for you!

Good luck to you guys! :)

I forgot my wick at work and bought a Blu vanilla ecig the other day. Those blu cigs taste so bad, I was going crazy!

Welcome to ECF, and congrats on giving up the analogs! You'll find almost as many different setups as we have members, so feel free to post any questions you may have. My usual setups are an eGo Twist with Kanger T3 or Evod and a Vamo with ProTank. I'm going on 3 weeks without a cig (after 30 years of a pack a day), so these are working great for me!

Cheers, and happy vaping! :toast::vapor:

You have been vaping for only 3 weeks? Just curious because you have 444 posts and joined in Feb 09???

Welcome! I am new here, too. 30+ year smoker as well. Started vaping May 28th, 2013 with an eGo C twist, a Kanger Pro Tank, Kanger T2, Kanger T3 and an EVOD. The Pro Tank is airy, but serves its purpose for corrosive flavors like cinnamon. I love that cinnamon! With the plastic tanks, I have been experimenting with mixing tobacco flavors with touches of cherry, vanilla, berry, and my next flavor will be a butterscotch or caramel. I have not smoked an analog since beginning vaping. Part of the reason I quit smoking was the expense, so I have to discipline myself to not go crazy spending money on flavors and hardware. My wife is very proud of me for giving up the analogs, and as a gift to me from her, because of the potential monetary savings, she "fronted" me the cash to buy a certain firearm that I have been wanting for the past 2 years. This vaping thing is going to work out ok!

Dang, I knew I should have gone back to edit that post  No, I've been vaping since 2009, but it wasn't until I got my Twist/T3 setup almost 4 months ago that I was finally able to wean myself off the cigarettes. Before that I had gone through various cigalikes, but those didn't even begin to make a dent in my cravings. I just used them when I couldn't smoke the real thing and never really bothered to see what else was out there. Then, a local vape shop opened and I discovered a whole new world I never knew existed! I wish I had explored all the new technology sooner, but better late than never, right?

haha

thanks all for the kind welcome and the encouragement...

I am using a 510 style stick batt (XL) and it works just fine for my vaping
I do well in the efficiency department so staying charged isn't an issue ;
but more power my be my short coming...

I do like the clearomizer tanks, I use a 1 ml now...

I am really surprised this has worked for me in replacing tobacco

Quit smoking analogs 5 months and six days ago. Been vaping ever since. Tried the blu's; flavor was good but didn't last long enough before the burnt taste kicked in. Used an ego vv2 with Kanger t3 and Evods and began seeing the light (so to speak), which eliminated the majority of the burnt taste issues. Since i have been using either the Johnson Creek Vea and their cartos or the ego c with a 1.6ml Evod during the day while out working or other activities. Like everything, a little time is needed to consume all the information you can while testing and trying many different items and set-ups to find what works for you.

Current setup is an itaste vv with Kangers T3 or Evod's at my desk and in living room with a personal mix of e-juice (1.8 peach whiskey).

Good luck and hope continue in this healthier lifestyle!!!

I have been at this 'research' longer than vaping and agree with what most of you are saying
don't toy with the cig stix; go for the power and capcity...

once I settle on where to do my bizness with, will make an investment in ego / EVOD

got my heart set on trying JohnsonCreek (Red Oak) Silverthorn

seems I am finding out that "PG" irritates my throat and "VG" is NICEEE... !

and I am a big fan of Turkish Blends... ;)

Hello Vapors,

so it has been a month since I have joined ECF and still a Vaping-Fool . . .

heeded all the suggestions and went with the Kanger EVOD Kit

so from the cig-a-likes, to 1000mAh egos and a couple evod tanks I knew that is what
worked for me and the wife unit (WU) - then bought the evod kit

so we got 2 ego batteries each, then share about 6 evod tanks, and a ProTank

we are both happy and satisfied with our vaping experience at this point in time... :thumb:

Thanx to all for suggestions and encouragement !:toast:

Congrats, I gave up cigarettes after 37 years of smoking and it feels great to finally be rid of that! I'm finding now that I don't vape as much as I did at first when I gave up cigarettes. The first couple of months were a little bit tough, but once you say I'm going to smoke ecigarettes or nothing, it works. Did for me anyway, and I don't miss cigarettes much now after three months of quitting.
