More a "pull (push?) together" than any buttons. I have a homemade copper mod made the same way.

If the switch is built the same way as the original than it is a mechanical...when you push the top down the positive contact touches the positive on the battery. I have had the alpha(14500 version of this) for well over a year now and with pretty heavy use it has held up very well. That's the American made version from altsmoke tho, can't speak from experience on this knock off.

I've have a genuine Omega from Altsmoke. I got it in a trade a long time ago. It's an all mechanical design, very well built, and reliable. What I don't like about it is that it isn't pocket friendly as the top is easily pushed down when I put it in my cargo pants pocket which activates the device. Juice also slowly leaks into the contact area so you have to take it apart now and then to clean it, kind of a PITA that I don't want to mess with. But it's still a good unit if you don't mind those drawbacks.
