My luck lately with atty's and hardware has been so hit and miss. Great when things are going well and terrible when they aren't, I haven't been able to just simply vape comforatably for over a week now. Reason being is because I keep experimenting with new pieces of hardware, ie: RBA's. I played around with a Zen a while back but couldn't get into it, plus I am a dripper, I can't be tied down to one flavor for too long! Sold the Zen and bought an Igo-L, and this thing has been such a love hate relationship.

When the Igo-L works, it's fantastic. The flavor and vapor is comparable if not better to an HH.357, it really pumps out the vapor and the flavor is bang on and extremely clean. But I can't ever seem to get a coil to last more than a few days before the vapor becomes non-existant or I just start getting the nastiest dry hits over and over to the point where I need to take it apart and wrap a new one.

I've wrapped about 5 or 6 coils and only 2 of them worked for only a few days. I thought I had it all figured out, too, I kept the coil at the height of the center posts, lots of silica to soak up the juice, aligned the air hole with the wick for maximum vapor and flavor. But alas, I wrapped a new coil last night doing the above methods and alls I get are nasty, nasty dry hits. The only thing I can think causing this is that it only came out to a 1.2ohm coil, but I vape it at 2.9v. Not sure what my problem is.

So long story short, I take one step forward but twenty backwards. I get so frustrated with the igo-l that I revert back to the HH.357 which just doesn't do it for me anymore (sharp draws and spitting juice gets old fast) either does a joyetech atty, etc. I eventually just settled on a carto last night for ease of use and decent flavor/vapor.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Any reommendations for another dripping RBA that performs well and is easy to setup? I really like the idea of the RBA's, I just can't seem to figure it out, if I wrap the same coil and setup everytime but have varied results with each one it leaves me clueless haha

I second the recommendation for the Phoenix - as long as you don't lose the stupid screws. Don't loosen them too much and don't rebuild the coil when there's a cat in the room.

There's a Phoenix XL out that is probably even easier to rebuild - don't have one, but Optimo (I think) did a review on it and he said it was easier to manage.

I've looked into the Phoenix but was told by a few people that the igo-l's were a better choice? They are both cheap enough for me to experiment I suppose.

Currently I am using 2mm silica wick with 32 AWG kanthal. I don't know if I like silica, I've been reading a few articles that's really putting me off it, especially with the amount of dry hits I am getting, it can't be healthy.

I just can't figure it out though! After really thinking about this all day long I am wondering if the ohm issue is where my problems lie. If I only have a 1.2ohm coil, even vaping at 2.9v is probably too hot, hence all the dry hits? I am going to go home and do 6 or 7 wraps... not sure if that will work. I've been doing 4 and getting anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4ohms.

I'm also going to be ordering some cotton from Jugheads soon to try that as well,... like I said some of the stuff I've been reading on silica is really putting me off.

You can get 100% organic cotton from Walmart. Vaping a 1.2 ohm head at 2.9 volts is roughly 7 watts. Which isn't terribly hot but 1.2 ohms definitely does not leave a lot of room for voltage fluctuation. I've never seen the igo-l's, so can't really help you there.

Let me tell you about my experience. I have a bunch of rbas and let me tell you. The best one i have by far is the cheapest. The bully tbc-2 it is just like the phoenix. I use it with vertically mounted 400 ss mesh and six wraps of 32awg Nichrome. When I have to, I can change the wire and mesh in three minutes but the best part is I don't have to too often. I do it about once a month just because I want to know if I'm loosing flavor. What I do is every other day I take out the mesh from the coil and boil half a liter of water and just dump it in the bully. Than I blow it out with compressed air and blow the mesh from the inside out too. Do a dry burn insert the mesh and it performs like new. Cost of the bully was $8 100Ft of 32awg Nichrome $4.75 and a sheet of 12in by 12in 400 mesh $10. At this rate this setup should last me a couple of years. I used to spend a lot on atties from the io6 to the cheep kangers and from the Cobra to the genesis but in the last three or four months nothing. I spend my money on just juice. This is just my experience hope it can help in some way.

Tried messing with this thing again last week and just ended up throwing in the towel from frustration. I can't understand it, and I bet the fix is so simple. I did a 6 wrap coil, got a 1.4-1.5ohm coil. Go to take a vape and it's either a complete dry hit, or there's absolutely no vapor. The airhole is aligned with the coil as it should be.

There's only a couple things left for me to try, and that's a different wick setup inside the atty. Normally I use Todd's method from his review of the igo on YouTube,, I haven't tried an alternate method. The other two minor things I can think of are coil placement inside the atty, is the coil too high? Is it too low? Surely it can't be THAT finicky? And lasty the silica I am using is 2mm, is it cheap silica, too small? I will try again tonight with whatever wire and wick I have left.

I am determined to get this thing working! As I know when it works, it works wonderfully. After watching Funky Vapes review of it, it just drives me absolutely mad that it's all the same material and components so I know I can do it. It's user error haha.

BTW I am using this on a Provari as if I vape it at anything above 2.9v I am begging for a dry hit.. I'll update again later tonight.
