I purchased my Prodigy v3.0 on 07-01-10. at the time I was using a KR808-D1. what a vaping machine the Prodigy is too. 6 volts worked well for me on the 808’s, and yes I understood the implications of running 6 volts thru the 808 cartomizers; you end up with pretty fried cartos. I would use them till they sizzled for more than 5 secs after I released the switch or the taste was off so much. 808’s are disposable. I use about 1 carto a day doing it this way.

OMG I DROPPED IT!!!

On 10-21-10 I dropped it without being locked. When I picked it up and tried to use it…….nothing. Immediately I am in panic mode. I only had 2 sets(4 batteries). There is a constant rotation for my batts. One set on the charger one set in the device. I knew that a mechanical switch could not have too much wrong with it so upon inspection I discovered the batteries were crushed, Increasing the distance between the switch post and the battery. I unscrewed the switch post screw 1/4th turn, and my Prodigy came back to life. At this point I ordered 2 more sets of batteries. And my relaxed state returns.

Being uncomfortable

On 11-15-10 I received my first “new and improved” KR808-D1 carto’s. and they were horrid compared to the originals. The way I used the cartos was working well up to this point. I would pop the end-cap off of the carto, fill it using the push method, then install a drip-tip, and I was good for the day. The new ones did not like being dripped on period. The juice would run out almost as soon as I dripped. Not to mention that the constant burned flavor added to the nightmare. I switched merchants to get the original cartos (sorry Steve and gang) but they soon ran out too. After visiting with other merchants thru their ticket systems on this issue, I decided it was time to change what I was using. I didn’t like the new KR808’s, and you can blame Kanger, the manufacturer of these cartos, for all my woes with the 808’s. They had a decent product I believe.

UPGRADING

01-12-11 I purchased the 3.1 switch upgrade. I noticed that all of my batteries had become slightly crushed using the old switch. My preference for the heavy spring probably contributed to this. And at one point I developed a blister on my finger due to holding my Prodigy so tightly to get it to fire up correctly. When it didn’t fire up right away my instinct was to squeeze more tightly, and it seemed to work too. The downside to that was, semi-crushed batteries, and using washers so the switch post would contact the batteries properly. The new switch alleviated all of my battery concerns.

AND MORE CHANGING

02-10-11 I decided to scrap the 808’s in favor of the 510. I purchased a 510 cap for the Prodigy and some 510 cartos, low res and standard res. I used the low res cartos on my BLU batteries and they worked very well, but not so much with 6 volts. The standard resistance cartos are what I settled with. These are the 510 boge cartos. Yea they are probably not designed for 6 volts, but they work as well as the 808’s did in the beginning, and I am a happy camper again.

Some one here asked the question, is the Prodigy the best US mod?

My answer is YES, hands down. The Prodigy v3.1 is the best mechanical, 6 volt; US built mod on the planet. PERIOD. (AND BEST LOOKING TOO).

Thank you Steve, Casey and gang for such a wonderful device.

I agree 100%. For a mechanical mod BUILT IN THE U.S. this is the BEST. Hands down.
GREAT PRICE and built like a TANK.

I want to add- I left my V3 ontop of my car and my fiance drove off with it still up there. It rolled off, she ran over it, and THREE OTHER CARS rolled over it at about 45 mph afterwards. The atomizer was broken, but the V3 worked better than ever!

If that's not rugged I dunno what is! :vapor:

the ICON is more inline with the eGo. The Prodigy is one of the smaller HV devices though.

These pics are a bit older (the originals from over a year ago, since then we have changed a few small things, but size is the same)

I can try and get some better pictures tomorrow for you. For now, these are the best I can do :) The bottle in the last picture is a small 6ml sample bottle.

This is an awesome thread! I especially love the post where the prodigy gets run over by 4 cars & still works. :) ( i swear that i don't intentionally abuse my mods)

Went to galveston beach on the 4th & wanted to be prepared.... i knew the prodigy could handle the day trip & it did......
Full of sand on the threads, but i cleaned them & the switch when we got home. It worked even full of sand.

This is one hard core mod! Congrats on a year with yours!!

I like the look of the Icon. Yes, please post updated pics.

I love my Ego, it's perfect for me. I would prefer to have a unit that I can switch batteries in, as long as it's as good as an Ego.

The Prodigy is too big for my hands, I can tell by the pic.

Battery question. I want a battery with a high mah so it will last a very long time. Of all the batteries that will work in the Icon, will the AW P17670 Battery 1600 mah work in it?

Doc is correct. And for what it's worth, the V3 really is much smaller than what you would think. Of course, it's much bigger than the Ego but it is relatively small when compared to most large-battery MODs out there.

Tried a friends V3 yesterday for kicks(and testing). AW IRC123 battes would not work for some reason(Bigger? couldn't see a difference in size from the Tenergys he was using), When the top was screwed back on it just started working with no switch action.

Nice monster TH at 6v!

:)Wiz!

That's what's nice about the V3, you can adjust the throw of the switch by removing or adding a washer(s) under the screw to compensate for the difference in length of different batteries.

Edit: Btw, two AW LiFePO4 batts for 6V vaping fit just beautifully in the V3. Personally, I would suggest using those...
