Hi everyone! Yesterday, 9/10/11 was exactly one year that I have been smoke free. Yay ME!

I took a look, and I registered here just a bit under two months into this new journey I had begun. I haven't been here in quite a while, but I popped in to take a look around, and thought I would post real quick of my success with the E-Cig, and perhaps lend some encouragement to hose just beginning the journey.

I've discovered a few things over the past year. First, for all those taking their first steps on this road, buy stuff and try it. I've seen many threads asking what to buy, what's best, and so on. Although you can glean a lot of good information here, and elsewhere, there is absolutely no substitute for "hands on" experience. I started with a 510, went to eGo and eGo style, then 901, a box mod, a screwdriver, and like them all - for different reasons. It's about finding what works FOR YOU! And no one can tell you what that might be. It didn't take a ton of money. I've spent a ton less on vaping supplies than I would have spent on cigarettes.

The same goes for liquid. I gave up on tobacco flavors early on. I was enjoying fruit, drink, candy flavors WAY more. The first non-tobacco flavor I tried was Pineapple. It sounded weird, but I gave it a shot (stepped out of the box!), and found I enjoyed it. My favorite flavor now? Sweet Tart! From AlienVisions (I have no affiliation with them). It really rocks my world!

I am 50 years old now, and had smoked since I was 18, about 2 packs a day the last 10 or 15 years. A friend turned me on to E-Cigs, and I will always be thankful to him. But I soon discovered this is not a "set it and forget it" proposition. Unless you want it to be really expensive! When I got into DIY it got even cheaper, but it involves a bit of work. Anything beyond pre-filled cartos involves a bit of work. You have to do more than shove an E-cig in your mouth and have at it.

The latest thing into was the 510-T. I do like the tanks. And I like them on an auto 510, the mega batts. I have yet to try the eGo tank, but I may do that soon. But, the variety of styles helped to keep vaping from getting "stale", if you know what I mean. I saw many posts in the past of people who gave up because they weren't satisfied with the way their E-Cig worked, or didn't work. They didn't venture into other styles to find something that worked FOR THEM. For all the people that like the eGo, there can easily be as many that don't. How will you know? You have to try it.

Whatever you're looking for is out there. But you'll never know if you don't try it. When you find it, you'll know it, and you too can one day say "One Year Today!"

Great post. Congratulations on your anniversary! I'm thrilled to see others have the same success that I have had. It looks like you joined ECF right off the bat. I wish that I had. I have made about every mistake and gone through every frustration a new vapehead can bring upon his/her self. It doesn't matter, though. It's all part of the journey. I fully agree with you: ECF is a great source of information concerning nearly everything vapor related. However, trial and error will always be a part of finding your own personal favorite vape.

Cheers, and happy anniversary! Hope there are many more to come...

Congrats! I know what you mean about finding the "right" PV. I too spent a bunch of money but I know what I like and what works for ME. I can only give suggestions to folks but without trying it for themselves, they will never know. Good luck to you and thank you for posting. You made some really good points.

Thank you for the replies everyone. ECF was a great resource for me in the early part of this journey, and a source of constant encouragement and reinforcement. There is so much information out there, and disinformation, and lack of knowledge, it helps to find a place that has a large cross-section of info and views. So much in life is a hit or miss proposition, that something like this should be more hit than miss. People don't decide (most of them anyway!) to use an E-Cig just for the heck of it. Most of us have a higher purpose. One that the E-Cig manufacturers and vendors (the good ones anyway) do not market this product for. The simple truth of the matter is that most of us are doing this to stop smoking tobacco cigarettes.

In line with that, that was my intention. I had tried in the past, and once got to 3 months before the monkey jumped on my back again. IT IS NOT EASY! And the cigarette manufacturers do what they can to make it so. I know this has been said before but "If I can do it, anyone can do it." Smoking cigarettes was much a way of life for me, one that I had almost resigned myself to. And I am still amazed out how relatively simple it was, with an E-Cig at my side. And people who know me are just as amazed. I am one of the lucky ones that it worked for. And it CAN work for YOU, but you have to work it YOUR way.

One key that I found is to ignore those who come at you with "Well, you're gonna use lower nicotine and stop altogether, right?"

One battle at a time! I'm just trying to not smoke cigarettes! Never forget, it's always easy for those outside the bars to make judgments. They will have all kinds of "advice" on what you should or shouldn't do. It can be difficult, but they have to understand that your success depends on you, not their "advice". Like anything else, you throw their "advice" in the air and see if anything good falls to the ground. Believe in yourself and in what you are doing. You can do it!

Grats!!! And I agree - you just have to try them. You can aim in an educated way but until you live with the devices and compare a few it's hard to know what is important and how they really feel, taste, etc. Most people are going to buy another ecig anyway within 1-2 months. Getting started is what's important.

Grats!!

Hi and thanks so much for sharing your success with us. Your words and your story are inspiring. I'm relatively new to vaping but a few of the statements that you made really hit home.

Everyone here seems to get help and to "pay it forward." Being new, I haven't the experience to help others too much yet. Will look forward to following your example and sharing my story when I've been here a while.

Thank you all for your kind words. I hope that perhaps I've been able to impart a little bit of optimism for those just beginning. Remember, you've made the toughest decision - to start. All the others after that are cake. And as was pointed out, you WILL be buying other PV's (hey, new term!). Whether it be more of the same or a different kind. Like everything else, they don't last forever.

But that's kind of the cool thing about it, there is a ton of variety. And a good portion of that ton does not involve a lot of money. And when you consider the cost of cigarettes these days, it's even more plain to see. When I started smoking, a pack was 55 cents. Look at 'em now!

Happy Vaping!

Steve
