Before I got my istick I mainly vaped ry4 / johnny555 (ex marlboro smoker) and fruity flavors on break or at home relaxing. I don't know if my palate has changed, hence the opinion part of the subject matter.

Anyway I find myself reaching for the fruity / dessert flavors more and more lately. Is it because of the sub ohm and istick or is it just my palate changing?
I always had a few flavors to avoid vape tongue, but like I said I'm straying away from the tobacco flavors it seems since I upgraded. Not that I'm complaining, I just thought I'd share it with the gang and get some thoughts on the subject.

How long have you been vaping? It's not uncommon for things that you liked early in the vape journey now don't taste quite as good. Plus, with better gear, flavors get better too, I think. I never was a fan of tobacco flavors - I started on desserts and some fruits. Now, I'm really fond of fruits and vanillas - oh, and chocolates :)

I'm not sure myself. I started with RY4, and have purpously switched away from Tobacco flavors. My theory, was the further away from the stinkies I got, the better. I now vape mainly fruity mixes, Some of my favorites have been Monster energy drinks, Guava, and lemon. I tried some RY4 a few months ago, and thought it was "ok".

I also think the flavor market has evolved and gotten better over time. I don't think the Tobacco flavors have evolved with it though.

I +1 the better gear, better flavor statement. I started with tobacco flavors. But it really didn't matter what flavors I used because they all tasted like crap after two hours out of a ce4 clearo. Those days are behind me now and I like the fruits and beverages. Really, anything without cinnamon or menthol is right up my alley.

I definitely think it's normal, and I think it is kind of dependent on the gear you have. As Libbydude said:

Back in the day (not as long ago as that might seem to elude), it didn't really matter if I was vaping gummy bear or chocolate, it kind of just had a similar "sweet" taste. I don't even know if it's necessarily because of the vapor production as much as it is because of the way that airflow is achieved these days, and the understanding that larger airflow (to a degree) increases flavor, and not having wacky 1.8 ohm top-coil plastic clearo's (god i hate those things) helps I guess, lol.

That said, in my personal experience, I started off trying a lot of different flavors from a lot of different companies (once I upgraded from a CE4 to a ProTank). Then I tried an RDA, and that took it to a whole new level. "I don't have to vape the same flavor all day?" "No, you don't have to vape the same flavor for more than 10 puffs if you don't want to." " "

Now I've learned to appreciate even the juices that I hated when I first started vaping. I'm still somewhat against creamy flavors (just because of diketone paranoia that I can't shake), but I have a ton in my drawer steeping, many of which I've grown to really love. Frenilla from Nicoticket is one of them, but I also have a lot of long-steeper creamy juices from ITC Vapes, a bottle of Spoon Licker V2 from October (its darkened up real nice). Nowadays there are only a few juices that really bug me, and those tend to be the flat-out custards, the ones that just have that buttery milky smell. Can't really deal with that. In particular, Epicus Nebula. I-.. I cannot stand that juice. It tastes poisonous.

Based on stories I've read on ECF, it seems to be common occurrence that flavor preferences change over time. I know mine did. For the first 6 months I vaped I was changing flavors constantly during the day. I've since settled down to a few flavors that are different from what I started with. That may change again as I play with DIY

Same thing happened to me. I thought Virginia was the end-all and be-all and I'd never want any of those "fruity" flavors. But after tasting a blueberry muffin vape, I just had to have it, and over the next month, I gradually vaped it more and the Virginia less, until the Virginia just tasted like crap to me. And still does. I do find I can enjoy some of the sweeter tobaccos though, the kind I turned up my nose at when just off cigarettes, calling them "pipe tobacco" flavor -- they actually taste ok to me now, especially right after a meal; mostly though, I just vape my DIY strawberries and cream, and I'm pleased to death with it.

With better gear sometimes comes the ability to really taste something and can influence how you change. When I started I couldn't understand how people could vape fruits and cupcakes and all this crazy stuff.

Fast forward 5 years I vape juicy fruit gum, double ry4 and my all day fav caramel candy mmmm

My palate changed at about the 2-3 month period. Like many, I started with tobacco flavors because I knew I was a tobacco type guy. No fruity stuff for me! After a couple of months all of my first few tobacco flavors started tasting awful. That began what is fondly remembered in my house as "the great tobacco hunt of 2012". Dozens of flavors from many vendors...but nothing tasted good until I stumbled onto a cherry tobacco flavor. Suddenly I was a fruity kind of guy. Who knew? Cherry, grape, blackberry...those were the flavors that kept me going until I figured things out.

Today, after 2 1/2 years, I vape nothing but unflavored liquid. It seems that, in the end, I don't like any flavor at all.

Welcome to the forums!

Been vaping for 8 months. Started with Kanger Evod to Vision Spinner with dual coil kanger T3D to my current setup. I was relieved after spending so much time building coils that the Melo and Atlantis coils are really easy to rewick and rebuild.

I really appreciate everyone's input and all of it makes sense. I turned my wattage down on the ry4 and its tasting better, but I vape it for maybe an hour and back on the gamma.

Again thanks everyone.

I don't know if others experienced what I did, but I recall that when I first started smoking, I really hated how they tasted, but ANYTHING to be cool, right? But I got used to it, or my tastebuds went into a coma or something, and for many years, told myself I liked that taste. Once I started vaping some stuff that ACTUALLY tastes good, I began to realize that tobacco flavor really isn't that great, just as I thought at first. :D But that was how I knew that I'm finally really done with coffin nails; nevermind all that cancer and stink, they taste like CRAP! :D
