Hey guys and gals, I just bought two genuine Kayfun tanks and I am so new to the vaping mod scene. Does anyone have a good suggestion? I purchased pre made coils from someone so I can learn how to make them but now I need something to vape it on. I'd rather spend money and do it right the first time, although a hobby, I am just looking to buy one for me and one for my husband. There are so many out there, I'm confused.

You need something to power it with; the thing you need is not a mechanical mod, although a mechanical mod will work.

A mechanical mod just means you don't have any control of the voltage or any short circuit protection and such things.

You can run your kayfun on a simple ego battery if the premade coil is 30 gauge 2 ohm.

I use my kayfun and my dripper on vamos and a zmax with anywhere from 34 to 28 gauge kanthal wire coils; and both my coils are around 3 ohms 28 gauge at the moment.

Thats kinda a loaded question. When you say hobby do you mean that you are not a smoker/ exsmoker and just find the concept of vaping entertaining? Or as a smoker wanting to quit you see how this could also be a hobby? What kind of budget do you have for one device? What do you want from your vape? Lots of flavor, huge clouds, small discrete clouds, and how often per day do you see yourself using this device (that answer impacts suggested batteries and not all mods use the same batteries). There is, as you've noticed, a lot of options for us out there which makes vague questions challenging. Also youre question kinda threw me, I've never had someone go out and buy a kayfun as a starting piece. Nothing wrong with that, just not as common. I hope I/ others can help ya, and welcome!

Hi Lisa,

You have a pretty wide choice of devices with which to run your Kayfuns. It's NOT recommended to sub-ohm with a Kayfun, as you have some potential to melt the insulator that holds the positive terminal to the deck. I have MVPs, a Sigelei Zmax V3 and a Vamo V6 on which I run my kayfuns. I like my coils around 1.8 ohms, but a little higher or lower won't ruin my world! I usually build with 30g kanthal, but I have a bit of 28 and 32 as well. Now I have the higher powered rigs (Zmax and Vamo), I could probably get away with the 28g wire because I'll have the power with which to heat the coil.

Biggest question will probably whether you want a self-contained battery or replaceable batteries. Also want to think whether you want a box or a tube as the form-factor.

iStick and MVP (internal battery) around $40. Sigelei/Vamo (need replaceable batteries) $40-60-ish. IPV3/ProVari I think in the ballpark of $150-225 (replaceable batteries here too, I believe)

Good Luck!

You have already gotten some great suggestions but I just wanted to

you to ecf Lisa. So glad you are here. I was afraid to try all the coil wrapping at first and I kept putting it off. With the help YouTube I found out even I could do it so don't be afraid to do it yourself. With a 100 feet of Kanthal for about $7, it really is more economical than buying them. Of course I have used the premade ones at Fasttech and thought they were great. Good luck to you and happy vaping.
